AI GeneratedPete Crow Armstrong (PCA) joins a Gatorade-sponsored workout event for a lighthearted interview featuring comedian Adam Ray. The conversation blends humor with insights into PCA's professional growth, his mental approach to the game's struggles, and his admiration for baseball legends.
Strong standing by. Do we have a shot of him? Where is he at?
Can you see him?
He's the rich guy out there in center field. I mean, they're all rich.
I mean, there he is.
There he is.
Okay.
PCA, you're wild right now.
It is a million degrees and you've got the hood up.
When have you ever seen me in anything but long sleeves?
Good point.
You're right.
Us fair-skinned guys, a lot of times we have to put a lot of sunscreen so sleeves work better.
Do you tan or do you get burnt?
No, it goes red and back to what I started as.
Hey, Pete, we got a double treat right now.
Okay, so not only are you blessed to have the IT crew with you in your year, but we're bringing on...
Can we do an official introduction?
Should we do an official introduction?
Okay, ready?
It's workout day presented by Gatorade and we are pleased to be joined by Pete Crow Armstrong and comedian Adam Ray.
And we just want to give you some...
See, he's a big fan, Adam.
Pete, you don't have to pretend, dude.
No one's buying that take.
Oh, no way, dude.
No, I appreciate it.
It's Ray Romano.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, Pete, it's Ray Romano.
I'm a big fan of you, Pete.
Wait, Pete, I'm a big fan.
PCA, I also...
My nickname was PCA in middle school, but it stands for something different.
Penile correction assistant.
I don't think he heard that.
All right, let's move on.
Gatorade's workout.
That's actually what I ended up hearing after Juan Soto just took a selfie with me.
That was the first thing I heard.
So you just have...
It's like fantasy camp out there, huh?
Oh, yeah.
I mean, I felt a little down on myself after they had Mooney on before me because I didn't
really know how to top it, but...
No way, dude.
I'm standing next to Paul Skeens if you guys want to get him on the camera and make me
look cooler.
Well, ask him for a heater.
That's just when you...
This is when you network.
You say, hey, Paul, by the way, 2-0, can I get that heater down the middle, buddy, or
0-0?
I was actually just asking him to teach me how to throw a splinker.
Yeah, yeah.
Maybe how to throw facial hair, dude.
Like, let's get that going for you, man.
I know you're like 26 on paper, but 14 live in the flesh.
Yeah, man, I...
No, you're killing it, dude.
My mom's got a huge crush.
If you want to send those nudes to me, I'll just forward them along.
And I'm not joking.
I got you.
Hey, do you try to rob home runs in batting practice?
It depends on the day.
Probably not today.
Guys are hitting the ball too hard, man.
Yeah.
Yeah, well, yeah, and saving them for the game.
You know, it's not really something you can practice.
Those plays, you know, like those plays are so rare, and you definitely have
more opportunity to MVP, but it's never the same as an in-game chance.
Yeah, it doesn't feel the same.
Have you had a chance to meet Libby Dunn?
Yeah.
Hey, welcome back to Grab Questions with Kevin Millar.
Jesus, dude, you had all day to prep.
She's great.
That's such a power couple.
It really is, dude.
It's the new J-Lo, Ben, or whatever.
Ben Affleck was his name.
I'll take it from here, Kev.
You've been dancing with the Wolves.
Kev, we got it, dude.
Hey, Pete, I got a question for you.
Adam Ray here with JambaJuice.com.
I'm here with the Gatorade workout, whatever.
I don't know, dude.
You and I have the same body.
But have you been starstruck by anybody?
Like I saw Ken Rosenthal in his bow tie.
I saw Jeff Passan in his child's medium suit, and I'm like, dude,
Mark DeRosa's up here keeping the tanning bed business in business.
Who have you seen where you're like, I can't believe I'm seeing them?
Oh, my gosh.
I mean, I know you're a Seattle guy.
Oh, yeah, baby.
Griff.
I mean, it never gets old seeing him.
Like I got to meet him in Tokyo last year, and he's been nothing but really
kind and gracious to me.
So I love getting to see him.
Let's get on a three-way text.
I had dinner with him last night.
We were throwing back some old fashions.
There you go.
T-Mobile.
Shout out, dude.
I love that answer, though, man.
Hey, dude, speaking of like Griffey, like playing with his hair on fire,
like you guys kind of both play the same way.
Yeah.
Rob home runs, hit home runs.
He hit a few more.
But, dude, this hair that you've been on, coming back from kind of just the
start you didn't want, how much did last year help you get through that?
I mean, last year, second half.
Like the lack of success I had last year actually has helped me.
Yes.
I mean, it's helped me so much.
Just knowing that it's always.
I'm just saying to Adam, comedy and baseball are the same.
We learn in our failures probably more than our successes.
I'm sure.
1,000%.
Who are you again?
I'm sorry.
I just got here.
Ryan Dempster.
Great, great, great.
I was with the Reds and the Marlins.
But, Adam, I'm sure also like you learn on the fly.
1,000%.
As well.
And that's, I mean, that's the story of our life when we start the season.
Like we don't practice.
We just, it's what you're seeing right now.
It's BP.
It's hitting the cage.
It's shagging.
It's all that stuff.
So, like, I think last year's struggles, you know,
they came at the worst possible time.
I felt slightly grateful for the fact that I started off slow this year.
And I had a lot of time to learn how to be an adult about it
and not let it snowball and not let it carry over month to month.
And I think I'm much better for that really slow.
You know, you only hit like 488 in June.
Yeah, dude.
You're a beast, dude.
Let me ask you this, one final question for me anyway.
What do you do if you do have those down moments?
I know they teach you guys to just kind of flush, you know,
what happened and just kind of get right back to it.
But for me, if I have a bad set, you know,
I usually get a pump-up text from Ryan Dempster that says, you know,
don't worry.
Like, you know, just because, you know, like, yeah, you should quit.
People in the back laughed.
People in the back laughed, yeah, that were paid.
You know, but then I'll put on some Hanson's oom-bop
or some Beyonce's Single Ladies, like something to get me in a good mood.
Maybe some, you know, look at this photograph
and just stare at old head shots of myself and, you know, just wonder why.
Rockstar's not a bad one either.
Rockstar, dude.
Yeah, wait, that's a great follow-up.
Are you a Nickelback fan?
And if so, what's the track you're jamming to?
Gosh, you know, I would love to lie
and say I'm a Nickelback fan, but if I'm ever down on myself, man,
I'll throw on like LL Cool J.
I need love when I'm alone in my room.
I'll throw on some Adele.
Some who?
What do you throw on?
I'll throw on some Adele if I'm really feeling bad about myself.
You know, she's just a powerhouse.
This is why you asked the question.
Where's my Bucket List concert, by the way?
And if she quit in Vegas and I didn't get a chance to see her.
We'll get her back.
Hit her up on Facebook.
Do you have her cell phone?
I got maybe her –
Yeah, you're right.
Yeah.
Got an old Yahoo account.
Yeah.
Pete, we've checked out your new social docuseries
and know you're chasing 162 in pursuit of glory.
What do you find more difficult in your season, though?
The first 81 or the second?
I mean, I think like the dog days of August are real.
Yep.
So I'd probably say like the second half is –
The grind.
Yeah, it is the grind.
You know, I think we're still riding the high of like,
hey, great, it's baseball season for the first couple months
and then like records start to matter a lot.
Where you're at at the trade deadline starts to matter a lot.
So, you know, like when stuff just starts feeling heavier in your life,
like I think nothing becomes easier from that.
I think you realize that your time is limited.
Your at-bats are limited.
But at the same time, like I think that's when people really like buckle down
and, you know, like that's when you see –
that's when you see what these really good teams are really made of.
So I was lucky last year too.
Like we were playing good baseball in the second half.
I was not.
So I kind of got to hide a little bit and figure my own stuff out.
You know?
But I'd say the second half is always more of a challenge
just because it means a little bit more.
Yeah.
That was a very real, honest answer.
That was thought out, man.
Next time we'll turn the cameras on and actually broadcast this
because that was amazing, dude.
Thanks.
Well, I mean, I like talking to you guys.
You guys are good people.
Hey, don't go – keep talking with us.
We're going to let Adam go here.
Adam's going to say goodbye.
What the hell?
Yeah.
Well, he didn't know who you were, so we got to tell him.
Hey, Pete, long time fan, first time caller,
but I'm coming to Chicago to do shows soon,
so I'll hit you up on the gram.
I don't know if you run your own account.
Hey, I'll come see you wherever you're at, man.
I'll connect you to Adam.
The Cubs are coming in to play in Seattle too,
so maybe we figure that out.
You also have an off day.
My mom will make you some soup
and you can see everything I was talking about live in the flesh.
Yes.
Let's go, baby.
I got to see it.
You're the man.
Have fun tonight.
You too, man.
Thank you.
Adam, thanks for stopping by with us, dude.
I love you guys.
I thought there was tequila up here earlier.
Yeah, whiskey, and we're going to get to that.
Whiskey?
Yeah, a little traveler whiskey.
We're going to have some of that for you.
You can't do it now?
Well, sure.
Yeah, we can.
I can also leave.
We just don't have the bottle.
Oh, okay, gotcha.
I'll leave, come back.
Yeah.
Already on here too long.
Room 1224.
Dude, that's honestly why I came here, was just for that.
Stay with us.
You know, I got to go to the set, but you know, you can stay.
I love you guys.
Best show in the biz.
Have fun.
Thank you so much, and we want to say congratulations on your
second career all-star selection.
Oh, thank you.
I got one more question.
One more.
Who do you got in the Derby?
Ooh.
Man, you know.
Don't answer.
Yeah, answer it.
Come on.
Kyle Schwarber or Bryce Harper?
Well, make feelings and friends out of this.
See, I'm going to say Schwarbs, but it's hard not to say Schwarbs
because of the 32 homers he's already hit this first half.
But Bryce, I mean, has Schwarbs won it?
I don't even know.
No.
Well, he – no?
No.
He won the game for them last year with the homer.
Bryce Harper is the only participant who has previously won the Derby.
So that's the issue that I'm having is, like, I like both of them.
Yep.
Junior Campanero is a gangster in there.
Well, so that was going to be my save me pick was Junior.
Like, I've said it a lot today actually.
Like, when we're in Tampa, they're at Wrigley,
I don't really go outside for BP and all that stuff all that much.
But when I get to watch Junior hit BP, I sit out there for his round
and his group only.
It is one of the most impressive things I've ever seen.
I just feel like he's built for that kind of thing.
So that's going to be my pick.
Although I want to see Bryce or Kyle take it.
And then I love Jay Walk too because we kind of came up on the same circuit
and he's a fellow NL Central guy.
He's just picked half of the field.
So he just picked half.
Thanks for really giving us expert intel on – no, he's an awesome dude.
He's one of the best.
Yeah.
Pete, thank you so much.
The game's future is bright with this guy.
For joining us for Workout Day presented by Gatorade.
And best of luck tomorrow.
And don't feel slighted about Mooney, okay?
I don't.
I think that's someone that should be on before me.
No.
And he is fantastic, man.
No, she's top of the home run derby because you're the group, Mooney.
Yeah.
That's the only reason.
You're a superstar.
Oh, man.
And we love talking to you so much.
And you're always candid and honest and you have such a good time.
And we just couldn't be more thrilled for you
and your second career all-star selection.
I appreciate you all very much.
Like Adam, I love you guys too.
You're the man, bro.
Thanks, Petey.
Thank you.
