Now to the latest on the devastating flooding happening in central Texas.
These are pictures from Houston's fire department. They actually sent 12
specialized trained members to help in this texas hill country flooding with
the search and rescue efforts for many and so far at least two people have
tragically died in this severe weather while hundreds of others either had to
be rescued or forced to evacuate. McKenna Earnhardt joins us now live
from Kerrville with the latest on the response there. McKenna, you said it
looks a whole lot different than yesterday, but still very severe, huh?
Yeah, no, definitely still very severe, but a whole lot better than yesterday.
I actually want to pull up some video from yesterday for you to look at right
now. I mean, this is the exact spot where we are. What you're looking at
right now is is what this looks like yesterday, last night. So this entire
pavilion area here was just, I mean, this water was just raging. It was so
high. And so local officials tell us like one of the reasons it's moving
this fast is because of the catastrophic floods from last summer
that stripped away the massive cypress trees along the banks. And so right now
there's almost no natural resistance to slow this river down. So I want you to
look as we're standing here right now. I mean, this water is still flowing so
quickly and I want to turn you this way. There is where you see this like
second set of rapids here. That is a walking path. That is where people come
to walk and go from one side of the Guadalupe to the other. And you can just
see now it is completely overflown with water. And when you go to the other
side here, just down the river from where we are standing, there's a large
industrial bars that actually broke free from its moorings. It's currently
wedged directly underneath. That's the sydney baker street bridge. And so
textile crews, they're going to have to inspect that bridge for safety before
traffic can normalize. And so the message for today is just all about
cleanup and remaining to staying, staying vigilant today. I mean, if you
see high water, do not go through, there's a lot of roads still closed
here in Kerbal. Obviously the sydney baker bridge here is still closed.
Textile is going to have to come out and inspect that. What happened with
those barges is there was a crane on top of them. And so when they floated
down the river, the crane actually hit that bridge and fell over. So now
that's something they have to look at is the bridge is the bridge damaged.
What do they need to look at? The water was so high yesterday. Those barges
were way up just right underneath the bridge. And so it's obviously you can
see just by looking at that how much the water has gone down today, which is
a good thing. But this is heartbreaking for this community. So many people that
we've talked to out here have just said that this is an awful case of deja vu
that they just can't believe that they're here looking at the Guadalupe
raging like this again and that they're gearing up to clean up their town that
they were just getting back back to normal. I was talking with a woman
yesterday who when we were talking about that walking bridge, I was
showing you all, she said she's been getting a little glimmer of hope every
day because she's been picking up a little less trash from the floods from
last year. And so the fact that that, um, she came out here and was looking
at it like this again, she was, she was just heartbroken. So my thoughts and
prayers are with this community right now as they go into cleanup and
recovery efforts today. Back to you. Our hearts and thoughts definitely go
out to everybody in that community because I mean, they were just dealing
with the same thing this exact same time last year. And, you know, it just
fuels all those emotions of all that they've been through.
