Tonight, nine people are injured in other news here after being shot
outside of Minneapolis nightclub officers responding to rain event
center on Hennepin Avenue around 12 30 in the morning and immediately called
for backup when they realized just how many people had been shot. The victims
included seven men and two women, all between the ages of 18 and 27. Now
police believe the shooting started after some sort of argument. They are
also looking into whether somebody may have fired from a vehicle.
This was a brazen act of violence in a crowded entertainment district where
innocent people were placed at tremendous risk. That is absolutely
unacceptable. No arrests have been made as of news time this evening. Now in a
statement, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frye said in part quote, this is a stark
reminder that keeping our streets safe requires every tool available. We need
partnerships where the perpetrators of these acts are arrested and prosecuted.
We need to continue hiring more police officers to both investigate and
prevent gun crimes. End quote. Tonight, one witness talked to Fox nine about
being caught in the middle of all that gunfire. Leon Purvis joining us live
now. And so Leon, how is she doing tonight? Well, Kelsey, she says that
she's still shaking. She says her life flashed before our eyes because she was
feet away from those gunshots. Somebody got shot once they ringed out their
2nd 3rd 4th 5th time. Yes, it's time to go. Linnaeus Wright was waiting in
line outside rain nightlife just after midnight sunday when shots were fired.
Police say nine people were hit. Two men suffered life threatening injuries.
Wright says some of the people sitting next to her were among the victims. No,
soon as they walk off, everything just it went down here from then chaos. They
said like four people have got shot, bro. We standing outside in line one
rang down and then we heard like 23 more come behind her and then we heard
like five more come behind it. So everybody just we run in different
direction. You got people running upstairs, got people running this way,
people running in the street. Wright says she heard about 10 gunshots. She
ran for cover with several other women not knowing where the shooter was. It's
like five more girls where I was and we all trying to, I'm trying to carry them
to the alley while I'm trying to carry myself to that because I don't know
where these shots are coming from. I've been crying since I got home because
like I could have been one of the people that got hit and I got kids. Right.
Says that she'll think twice about going out at night after what she
experienced. And Minneapolis police is asking anyone with any information to
contact them. We're live in Minneapolis tonight. Leon Purvis Fox nine. All
right, thanks Leon.
