So the US has identified two soldiers killed during an Iranian strike on Jordan.
Rashi Vass is here to tell us a little bit more about what we think following.
Yeah, so Caroline, you know, the big question is what's been going on with the Iran and
the United States.
And so we've heard about so many ceasefires and then they also collapsing.
But right now we've got a pretty clear message from Iranian President Massoud Pardeshian
stating that Iran is actually now at a quote full scale war with the United States.
And you know, this war started late February and we have lost 17 members.
The latest to the Department of Defense announcing in a statement, 25 year old First Lieutenant
Tyler James Feehan of Iwa Beach, Hawaii.
Also on the left side, you'll see 19 year old Private Isabella Gonzalez of Carrollton,
Texas, which is a suburb outside of Dallas.
So really close to here in Houston.
Now, they were both killed in the ballistic missile and drone attack at an air base in
Jordan.
Additionally, we do know that one service member is currently missing in action, according
to some officials and the service members, they were assigned to an army air and missile
defense command in support of Operation Inherit Resolve, which, if you don't know, is the
US military's mission against the Islamic State group.
And it really is just so complicated.
And one of the big things we hear of is the MOU, which is the Memorandum of Understanding.
And that basically is not just with Iran, Israel and the United States.
According to Vice President J.D. Vance, we also have the Gulf states involved, too.
So it really is such a complicated process.
And it's so sad to hear the loss of our service members.
So what is the administration saying at this point?
Well, it really looks like things are escalating.
So take a look at what President Trump posted on Truth Social.
Every time Iran kills an American soldier, they will pay for that killing many times
over.
This directive has been passed on to Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, chairman of the Joint
Chiefs of Staff Daniel Cain, and every leader in the military.
Now, Secretary of State Marco Rubio had this to say.
The only reason why the US is conducting strikes is against assets of Iran that are being used
to attack global commercial shipping.
The Straits of Hormuz are international waterway, and they continue to launch against ships
in that international waterway.
Other countries should join us in this effort, but the United States is involved not just
in protecting those ships, but in targeting the places that they use to launch these missiles
and drones.
But like, I also think it's pretty growingly apparent, it's growing apparent that even
within their own system, there's a growing split.
I think maybe some of your outlets have documented this between those that understand that their
economy is in shambles and they need to do something, or they're going to be in a lot
of trouble very soon, economically and domestically.
And others who are very militant in their view of life and in their view of the world
and continue to launch missiles.
Well, Rashi, unfortunately, a ripple effect of conflict in the Middle East is, of course,
gas prices.
And locally, we've noticed them rising over the weekend.
Yeah, so we just heard from Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
He talked about the Strait of Hormuz, and that really is a big thing with the MOU or
the ceasefire.
And you might not know this, but about 20% of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas
passes through it daily.
So just imagine a blockade, any type of interruption is going to rapidly spike global fuel and
food prices, which is what we're seeing.
You know, the U.S. emergency stockpile of oil has actually hit a 43-year low.
The administration is assuring tankers it's safe to move through the Strait.
20 vessels crossed through it over the weekend.
And according to AAA, the national average for a gallon of gas now back to $4 a gallon,
which is actually pretty high.
And as these prices tick back up, the administration is trying to ease Americans' concerns.
We are basically providing the service of protecting these ships on behalf of the world.
And we're the only ones doing anything about it.
We're constantly watching the supply of oil, the supply of refined products, and what's
going on there.
And I think still all positive trends.
Okay, so what we're looking at here, you obviously saw the truth social posts from President
Donald Trump, and then what the President of Iran is saying.
So both very heated.
And what international mediators are saying is, hey, let's have a 10-day ceasefire, an
interim, just to halt any further escalation, because things are really taking a turn right
now.
Well, Rashi, thank you so much for that update and breaking it down for us.
