AI GeneratedThe speakers recount a journey from Italy through Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Antananarivo to a stunning valley in Madagascar. Despite losing their gear to an airline, they discovered an incredible bouldering area with massive granite blocks, prompting them to extend their stay. The trip involves challenging climbs, bag-hauling training, and meeting a diverse community at their climbing camp.
So what's today? Wednesday?
So today is Wednesday.
I left Italy Saturday night.
And since Saturday night I've been traveling.
I went to Cape Town.
Oh, we've done this a few times.
And then we went to Johannesburg.
And then we went to Antananarivo.
How long did we travel the first day?
We traveled five hours.
By van.
We stayed in a little hotel.
On, what was that, Monday night?
Are you withdrawing $500,000?
Tuesday morning we woke up at 6am for the
nine hour drive.
Still in a bus.
Still in the bus.
We'll be there in three hours they say.
And twelve hours later, we made it.
Driving into this valley we both looked at each other
and were like, there's not enough time
with our two and a half weeks
planned here, so
let's poke around a little bit
and see what it feels like.
See if we should extend.
And after just one day walking around the riverbed
and the fields and the hillsides and boulders
with these massive walls
lurking over us, we're like,
yeah, we're going to extend the trip.
And we did.
We are on the other side of the little
valley from our house.
I can see our house right behind you.
And we're scoping some more boulders.
It's like a 15 minute walk
to a little riverbed filled with
granite blocks. Tall, big,
hard, easy, slabby,
powerful. It's been fun.
Stacking rocks.
Another reason why we just decided to go bouldering
was because all of our gear
was still lost with the airline.
Oh ----!
You okay?
Whoa!
Crazy is that boost. Just screaming.
Just like that.
Yeah, so sick.
Nice.
It'd be nice to do that from the bottom, but that's really fun.
Aiden,
tell us about the bouldering
here.
It's a lot,
but it's also hot.
Just around our climbing camp we met so many
cool people and people that work there,
people that were visiting, non-climbers
and climbers. It's just a rad place
to either start or
end your day.
Kitchen area.
Back to our...
I mean, look at this thing.
Dude!
Your money was in there?
I mean, look at this thing.
Did it fall out of the plane into Africa?
It's on the limo wall.
We just hiked for an hour and
minutes in the sun.
Today we're going to be training
our bag hauling.
We got two bags inside of a bag.
We're going to try to pull some inside of it.
Be in the shade in
hopefully 30, 50, 60 minutes.
But right now I'm going to do the first pitch in the sun
because I'm sick of sitting here
waiting.
Welcome to traveling with Josh.
Take off
from the second anchor
and the bag...
Using his best technique.
Another pitch
complete. And Josh is
coming to join me up here.
Yeah!
Never take two
full-size bags and one
small bag.
If you're going to bring
this much ----, you better
have two beers.
And we don't even have one.
Sunset!
Ow, I just bit my cheek.
Oh god, I just bit my cheek.
