Did Ian Rapoport Just Say Mendoza Is Benched For The Entire Season??

A classic game of telephone that gets the message lost in the shuffle and now there are reports claiming the Raiders are benching Fernando Mendoza for the entire season no matter what so I have to come on here put my hat on click the record button and make sure you guys know exactly what's going on because we are still I think about a week away from training camp which means we are within one more week's time of hearing people talk about things that probably don't matter as of right now we're gonna get into it immediately this is Silver and Black Pride they're not claiming there was a report it was a rap sheet thing that people took and aggregated and turned it into this thing but it is worth talking about Bill Williamson about Fernando Mendoza not starting all season a report states that the Raiders want Kirk Cousins to play the entire season ish a recent report by Ian Rappaport of NFL media raised some eyebrows about the Las Vegas Raiders plan for rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza this season according to rap sheet the team's ideal plan for the number one overall pick is to keep him on the shelf for the entire rookie season Rappaport said the team would like to see Cousins who was signed this offseason who turned 38 next month to play for the entire season okay is this breaking news to anybody we'll keep reading the Raiders have yet to publicly say whether their plan is other than saying they'd wait the Raiders have yet to publicly say what their plan is other than saying they do indeed have a quarterback plan and by the way they don't have to come out publicly say anything to us at all both Las Vegas and general manager John Spytek and head coach Glenn Kubiak have said they would like to see the rookie quarterbacks in general sit and learn an ideal world but an exact timeline for Mendoza hasn't been announced so Rappaport's report is interesting did you guess the Raiders would rather not insert Mendoza into the lineup at all 2026 and here's what he has to say and Jacoby Brissett does not get a new contract or a new contract extension before training camp gonna be a lot more reps coming Carson Beck's way and that is excellent excellent news for him I want to stay out west but go to the Las Vegas Raiders and do they really have a QB battle is an interesting conversation obviously Fernando Mendoza number one overall pick truly seems like the way they are planning the way they're hoping for it to all be is for Kirk Cousins to be the starter at the beginning of the season throughout this season at the end of the season because that means he is playing well it means he has stayed healthy and it means Fernando Mendoza can just sit there and learn and if that is the way it goes for the Raiders that is absolutely fine but it's not a guarantee and the reason I say that is because we have seen this in the past you say all right well you know we're gonna sit this rookie probably not gonna play he's gonna learn what if Mendoza hits the ground running so fast and so well that they say this guy has to play it might not be game one but it could be early in the season and if that is the case for the Raiders that also was excellent news does make it a little awkward in the QB room but still news that the number one overall pick is exactly who they hope by the way that says July 23rd that's in two days rookies report and then the veterans reports 28 so the article says however rapid form a clear there are no absolutes in the plan he left plenty of outs for the plan to change his points of cousins who played under Kubrick for three sixes sees this place well and stays healthy there's no reason to move from the job okay so let me ask you this after reading the article or reading the headline and then seeing that video would you say there is a report going around that the Raiders are going to bench Fernando Mendoza for the entirety of the season because I would say no there is no report indicating that at all I would even argue to say rap sheet who was a very credible maybe the most credible insider in the game didn't even claim to have insider reports he just says from what the Raiders have done in the offseason and what they've said out loud they would prefer Kirk Cousins to play and for the rookie to sit he didn't say I have sources in the building telling me this is not a report this is a rap sheets opinion a very good smart one talking about the Raiders quarterback situation now my take has always been my take I think in an ideal world Kirk Cousins plays the majority of the season and Mendoza learns there are plenty of examples of quarterbacks benefiting from playing right away and benefiting from not playing right away so if you're if you're headstrong on one side that doesn't make any sense to me because there's the flip side to the coin where there are many successful you know quarterback examples that have worked in that specific situation what frustrates me is that I then hear people go see that look at this report Fernando Mendoza is not playing the whole year that's not the report that's not what the report said it's not what rap sheet said there's nothing indicating that Fernando Mendoza it's a rigged competition Ian Rappaport said they would like Kirk Cousins to play the whole season why because that means he will be playing well what's the flip side of that if Kirk Cousins does not play well then he will not be the starting quarterback it's very simple to understand if you do more than read the title of an article that you see on Twitter you will have the full story now I know I am in the content game I know that titles and thumbnails and and and catchy things in articles are meant to get you to you know have a reaction based off of what they say but they're also meant to get you to click and read slash watch everything you don't know how many people I have that comment on my videos I can't believe this is your opinion because they see a question in the title of the video and then they come back and they edit the comment 15 minutes later and go oops I just watched the whole video that my bad that is in your opinion there is no report no insider report that is saying the Raiders no matter what are starting Kirk Cousins you don't need an insider you don't need a rocket scientist you don't need Albert Einstein you don't need me to tell you the Raiders would prefer to play Kirk Cousins you know how you know that because they signed him and they paid him a bunch of money and they said he's gonna be the starter and then we're gonna play the best didn't play right away I don't care about your examples of well this guy played and then he became good yeah that's every single player who's ever been in the league they played and then they became good or they became bad who are the two greatest quarterbacks probably in the history of the game Tom Brady and probably Patrick Mahomes when this all said and done both of them obviously one both of them did not play their first season how about Aaron Rodgers right how about Jordan Love how about Drake like there's so many examples of players who have benefited from not playing right away in fact as I rack my brain to think about a high draft pick top 10 ish picks who sat and waited and learned I'm having a hard time thinking about any players who didn't play right away who ended up being not that good I'm just trying to think about all the rookie quarterbacks it's pretty typical for you to just throw them into the fire I think it's very beneficial for him to sit and wait for a little bit especially because he had to spend a lot of his time learning the mechanics of pro style football which some of these players already had the added benefit of knowing he had to retrain himself to do the three-step and five-step drop and to take plays under center and make sure we're looking as we're doing all those things to read the defenses blah blah blah I have no issue with him sitting and I said this about a month ago on multiple podcasts not just mine that the that the truth that no Raiders fan wants to hear is that it's beneficial for Fernando Mendoza to not play almost any games this year I said that a month and a half ago two months ago what did I have any insider reports no I just used my brain again it's I know it's just a day in AIDS that we live in where you see something on Twitter which by the way I'm not on Twitter get off Twitter it's horrible you see something on Twitter you don't investigate it and then you go this is the world that I live in now I'm not even blaming people for not digging into it it's just unfortunate it just kind of reminds me of like the like the Odyssey all the stuff of the Odyssey oh it's this it's that it's blah blah blah there's a there's a there's this person's not historically accurate it's all fake internet nonsense and this is just another example of that people that I like that I know personally saying can you believe the Raiders are are benching Mendoza for the whole season Rappaport in the same video said but if he plays well he'll probably play guys hold on for two days we're two days away from training camp and then we'll have legitimate stories to talk about but this is just another cautionary tale of make sure before you go on and you say something and or not even say something before you just let this become the reality that you live in that you read the entire thing or that you watch the entire video it's different to say I don't like that they want to play Kirk Cousins that's totally understandable that's an opinion based off another opinion but to say see he's not playing the whole year it's just not what the insider report was just didn't happen it was rap sheet giving me an
