Lesson 128- 'ce1 車” car - land transport vehicle - sewing #learncantonese

First of all, remember in our previous lesson, we focused on the English word to stop. To stop in English has several meanings which expressed differently in Cantonese. This time, it's the other way round. 車 in Cantonese has several meanings which expressed differently in English. So, first of all, do you know the most common meaning of 車? Right, remember in our very early lesson, we have talked about the transportation. So, 車 actually means car or vehicle. I'm not sure if you realize if you have some Cantonese friends or friends, parents who might not speak English perfectly. For example, if this old man wanna ask where is your motorbike, he might say where is your car. So, it might confuse you. So, why would this happen? Because in Cantonese, 車 means car or vehicle. So, how do you say motorbike and bike in Cantonese? Right, 電單車. How about bicycle? 單車. You see, it consists of the word 車 even train and track also consists of the word 車 train 火車火車 track 電車電車. So, basically, for most of the vehicles, we have the word 車. So, for the name of the common vehicle, let's refer back to this lesson. Today, let's focus on some verbs. For example, how to say to change, no matter it's bus, train or metro, we say 轉車. How about to park? So, the verb is to park. However, no matter it's train, car or bus, we all say 泊車. Remember how to say car park? Right, we just learned in our previous lesson. How about garage? Which means the room for the car. But pay attention to the tone of the room. Remember how to say bedroom? But for garage, which is tone 4. Remember how to say to drive? How about car crash? Remember how to say traffic jam? Let's learn some more useful vocabularies. How to say driving license? For example, if you want to ask, do you have driving license? So, how to ask? Right, easy. And then we can add the ending word 啊 in the end. Do you know how to say sewing machine in Cantonese? It's very interesting. We call sewing machine 衣車, literally coving vehicle. So, how to say to sew the coving with sewing machine? In Cantonese, only 2 words. 車衫, 車 means to sew with sewing machine, 衫 means clothing. So, how to say, for example, I sew this dress by myself with sewing machine? It's a bit complicated. Let's take a look. I, 我, and then by myself, and then to sew with sewing machine, 車, this dress, 呢條裙, 我自己車呢條裙。 Or, if you want to use passive voice, 呢條裙 is 是 myself, 我自己, and then sew, 車, we will add the word 嘅 after. 呢條裙係我自己車嘅。 I would say the second word is more common, but if it's too complicated for you, you can just use the first expression, 我自己車呢條裙。 Thank you for watching and I hope you enjoyed this lesson today.
