A strong and defiant statement by the Mansar al-Lahouti group
made not just through a TV statement but through a series
of military attacks that targeted the southern Saudi cities of Yanbur
and Jizan. The Yemeni group says they launched
dozens of cruise missiles, ballistic missiles,
and Yemeni-made drones targeting oil facilities in both Yanbur
and in Jizan. Now local authorities in Saudi Arabia say
these attacks that came from Yemen were all successfully intercepted
by the Saudi air defense system. The Yemeni group however says
their military operation was a success and that all intended targets were
successfully hit. The latest flare in developments comes just one day after
Saudi Arabia launched a military operation that
targeted what it says are Houthi positions
in the province of Qaeda and also in the island of Cameroon. The island of
Cameroon is considered to be Yemen's biggest island.
It is actually very close to Bab al-Mandab where the ships are being
targeted and where the ships are being turned away
from by the Mansar al-Lahouti group. Now both
the UN envoy to Yemen and Omani officials
have called on both parties to resume negotiations.
UN officials, Saudi officials, and even some Mansar al-Lahouti officials
are said to be in Oman for what could be a potential round two
of negotiations but until then I think many people are expecting that
there will be more strikes and more attacks from both sides, from both
the Saudi government and the Mansar al-Lahouti group since the demand
of lifting the siege on Sana'a international airport
and the siege on the port of Hodeida have not yet
been achieved. The Yemeni group says if Saudi Arabia does not
lift the siege on Yemen they will continue to launch
missiles and they will continue to impose a
naval blockade and Aramco oil facilities according to the Yemeni group will be
one of their main targets. Yusuf Mawry, Al Jazeera, Sana'a.
