What does bourbon have to do with the U.S. midterm elections?
Well, 16 million barrels of it.
That's enough to fill more than a thousand Olympic-sized swimming pools
are sitting in Kentucky warehouses with no buyers.
A major reason they're here is Trump's trade war with Canada.
Anyone, anyone had any bourbon recently?
No, thank you so much.
Canada has been boycotting American bourbon made
in Kentucky for more than a year,
costing this red state's marquee bourbon industry $250 million.
A few distilleries have closed and workers have been laid off.
It is devastating for those families
who were depending on the bourbon business for their livelihoods, sure.
Democrats think they can use this opportunity
to flip a Lexington-area House seat.
And Democrat Zach Dembo has
a slight lead against Republican Ralph Alvarado
in a toss-up race as the two parties vie for control of Congress.
Congress has the power to stop these terrorists,
and we haven't seen them doing that as it jacks up costs
on all of us here in central Kentucky.
Many voters in Bourbon Country are upset
that they're paying the price for Trump's trade policy.
But tradition is strong here.
I don't like it. I do feel like that's what they're doing.
What are they doing?
That they are targeting red states.
Don't try to attack me because of my political beliefs.
You believe what you want to believe, I believe what I want to believe.
That's your message for Canada?
Yeah. Y'all can stay up there.
I don't care if y'all buy our bourbon or not.
And others say they still want to give Trump's party
a chance to finish out the president's term,
even if that means more aging bourbon in the barrel.
