"Kevin... what do YOU drive?" And even more often... "What vehicles would you never buy?"
The answer isn't as simple as naming a few brands.
In this video, I explain the principles I use every time I buy a vehicle—including why reliability, practicality, repair costs, long-term ownership, and real-world experience matter far more than flashy marketing.
You'll learn: ✅ Why I refuse to buy vehicles that don't fit my lifestyle ✅ The manufacturers I approach with extra caution—and why ✅ Why dependability beats luxury every single time ✅ The biggest mistake many car buyers make when choosing a vehicle ✅ The vehicles currently sitting in my own driveway
Remember... This isn't about attacking brands.
Because Manufacturers improve. Some get worse, some get better. The smartest buyers pay attention to trends—not loyalty.
If you're planning to buy a vehicle this year, this video could save you thousands and lots of future headaches.

Kevin Hunter explains his personal criteria for choosing vehicles, emphasizing that his decisions are based on practicality, reliability, and lifestyle needs rather than status. He outlines five specific rules he follows to determine which vehicles fit his life and which he avoids, focusing on utility for his large family and professional requirements.
Vehicles you'll never see me driving and why? People ask me all the time, Kevin
what do you drive? And then what would you never buy? That's actually a harder
question than you might think because I don't buy vehicles to impress people. I'm
not that kind of person. I buy vehicles because they solve problems. I'm six foot
two. I've got five kids still living at home. I haul equipment. I tow. I travel. I
need reliability and I need comfort. I need something that's still going to be
dependable years down the road. So today I'm going to tell you about the kinds of
vehicles you'll probably never see sitting in my driveway, not because every
one of them is a bad vehicle, but because they don't fit my priorities. So the
Kevin Hunter rule number one, I don't fit. Let's get the obvious one out of the
way. I'm six foot two. If I have to fold myself into a vehicle, it's already
losing points. If my knees are touching the dashboard and my head is rubbing the
roof, if getting in requires some kind of a yoga move, well then I'm out.
Definitely no clown cars. I'm not criticizing people who love compact cars.
They simply don't fit my lifestyle. Second rule, I buy American when I can.
This is a really important distinction. I'm not saying that foreign cars are bad.
I genuinely prefer buying vehicles from companies that build and employ people
right here in America. That's a personal choice I make. It isn't political. It
isn't saying imported vehicles are inferior. It's simply where I choose to
spend my money whenever possible. I like supporting American manufacturing and
American jobs. Third rule, I pay attention to long-term trends. There are some
manufacturers that simply make me more cautious than others. I've seen enough
owner complaints, enough repair stories, enough dealership issues that I approach
them much more carefully. Would I say every Ram is bad? Nope. Every Dodge? Nope.
Every Volkswagen? Nope, definitely not. But there are brands where I would want to do
a lot more homework before signing on the dotted line for any one of those
vehicles. Fourth rule, I buy for my life. People ask me, what do you drive? Well,
I've got a 2014 Ford F-150 Texas Edition XLT. If you don't know about the Texas
Edition, it's got a leather interior, backup camera, power sliding rear window.
That's fantastic for an XLT. You get it anywhere else in the United States,
especially here in the Midwest where I live. That's a fabric truck, has a manual
back window, no backup camera. It's a lot lower level vehicle. But the Texas
Edition kicks some butt, and this has been a very dependable truck for me. And
with the 3.5 EcoBoost in it, it takes off like a rocket. I've also got a 2019
Chevy Suburban LT. Why? Because I've got five kids at home. It isn't glamorous,
it's practical. I don't need a sports car. I need enough room for my family, our
gear, and some extras, and sometimes hauling equipment for Willis and Kids
first, or the homework guy. The vehicle fits my life, and that's why I have it.
The fifth rule, I'd rather have dependable than fancy. So if somebody
handed me keys to an exotic luxury SUV, I wouldn't necessarily take it. And of
course, it depends. Can I afford to fix it? Can I get parts quickly? How much does
routine maintenance cost? What's it worth in five years? Can I trust it outside of
the manufacturer warranty? Those are questions I ask because flashy doesn't
impress me. Dependable does. Here's the funny thing. The vehicle sitting in my
driveway today might not be the one sitting there five years from now.
Manufacturers improve, some get worse, some surprise us. That's why I don't fall
in love with any given car brand. I pay attention to trends because one great
vehicle doesn't guarantee the next one will be great. So a good vehicle isn't
always good, and one bad generation doesn't mean a manufacturer can't earn
another chance. So a bad vehicle isn't always bad. Next week, I'll tell you which
vehicles I'd buy tomorrow if I were in the market for another car right now. I'm
