This video provides a comprehensive guide to improving golf swing consistency and power through three primary pillars: balanced body rotation, arm structure, and timing. By utilizing specific drills like feet-together swings and towel exercises, golfers of all levels can refine their pivot and strike the ball more effectively.
Golfers, I need just 10 minutes to transform your golf.
Whether you're a beginner or an advanced player,
these 10 minutes will make a difference to your game.
Let's get stuck in.
So we're gonna look at the key kind of things
in your golf swing that can make
a huge difference straight away.
How we can present the golf club in the correct arc,
the correct direction, the correct position
towards the ground relevant to the ball,
and be consistent with it.
We're gonna share that with you straight away.
If you're new to the channel, please subscribe.
It really helps me, and it really helps me
produce more content more consistently
to help you improve your golf.
So if we start with the body,
what we're looking for with the body
is what we call balanced rotation, okay?
So if I put my feet together and make a rotation,
I will move and pivot, and if I move too far,
I'll start to fall over.
So the first initial part is making some swings
with your feet together, making sure I can rotate
and get the golf club to land,
ideally around the golf ball, just after every time,
but having that feet together.
Again, I can't move the weight too much
in a poor direction anyway without really
challenging my balance, so it really helps me
try to pivot in a very organized sense straight away.
So that's kind of point one, and step one with this.
So the feet together gives us this real
kind of centered rotation, you know,
and if you like, just a real,
since it lacks just a little bit of power
would be the negative in it.
Otherwise, why not play feet together all the time?
So the next step would be to do some steps.
So from the feet together,
we can kind of go step right, step left.
So in the backswing, we kind of step right,
step left in the free swing, and that gives us
a bit more pressure shift and dynamic movement,
which again starts to add some speed to it.
So again, feet together, as we swing back,
step out, as we swing down, step out.
And that, again, is a great feel,
particularly in practice swings only,
to start to shift that pressure around.
Again, we don't want a huge amount
of sideways movement with the head.
The head can move, I talk about this quite a lot,
one inch.
So literally from here, kind of half an eye
would be the most I'd want you to be able
to move your head, with an eye.
With a driver, you could probably go
to the outside of your eye.
So, you know, you could double the movement.
But again, two to three inches with the driver,
one to two inches with an eye
would be kind of where I'd kind of go.
But the idea is really we're looking
for this kind of central, central pivot
with a slight bit of dynamic movement and pressure shift.
Now, if you really, really struggled
getting the low point correctly,
you could even load the weight more left and stay there.
But again, I mean, that limits you a little bit
in terms of pressure movement,
which again, might limit power production.
So I like to see some pressure movement for sure.
So for me, the practice swings,
these two practice swings are a great way to start.
You can obviously hit golf balls doing both.
The stepping one is a bit more challenging
in terms of timing.
But you can hit golf balls doing both.
Feet together is certainly a good way
to get your ball striking going and stuff going
if you go through a real bad patch.
Get in the net and do feet together shots
to get that balance and consistency
and little small movements going first.
So that's a good way to start that.
But basically, from a body action point of view,
we're looking for this tilted rotation
with a slight bit of pressure shift.
That's what we're after.
We're not looking for you to stand up.
Not after you need to extend too much.
It's kind of tilted rotation,
create that kind of movement
as if we're going to try and drive something off the ground.
When we look at the arms,
the arms for me, I want to see width.
So really push this lead hand away in the correct direction.
So this would be in too much and too close to my body.
So if I take my trail hand and push it
on my lead hand glove, push hard as I swing back,
that gives me the correct feeling
of that kind of width I want in the golf swing.
Then if I put my hand here,
make sure it never touches that,
it gives me the correct direction
to the lead arm in the golf swing.
I don't want it to be whacking in.
So we're looking at basically body turn,
correct width, and the correct width through as well.
So when I talk about the through swing,
I want to see this structure.
Can I stretch these arms out as far as I can go?
Can we feel that we're really kind of throwing,
not collapsing these arms?
That would be the idea.
So the idea in the golf swing is we want to feel
this kind of wooden arm swing initially,
the hands are definitely going to be working,
with a kind of tilted, consistent rotation.
So, feet together, and you're going to try
and hit that consistently without wobbling,
step swing, and then we focus on the arm.
So a great way of kind of getting the arms
and body working together, if we just take a towel,
hold it like a golf club, standing in your golf posture,
when you swing back, we want it to try
and slap you on the back.
Just swing through, slap it on your back.
That creates a great motion with the rotation.
So what we're looking at is the correct body motion,
the arm structure, and then the last thing
we want to work on is the timing.
When and how we time it.
Again, you can use a towel a little bit.
If we go to this golf bag here,
want to be able to whip that bag at the right spot.
If I'm, you know, never decelerating
and accelerating the arms the right way,
so the noise would be far, far less.
And if I'm accelerating too early, it'd be far too early.
The other way to do it is with an alignment rod.
So we're looking at when the wish is.
If the wish is too early on the way down,
or never happens, we haven't got the speed
in the right place.
We want the speed around the golf ball.
In order to achieve that, we are accelerating
and then decelerating.
The body decelerates to create that acceleration.
Just making a noise in the right spot
will have you achieving those things.
So we look at everything we've kind of talked about today.
It's this balance, it's the arm structure,
it's the timing, and then making sure we land
this golf club after the golf ball.
So, nice setup, rotation, stretch, timing.
If we lose the structure in our arms,
that raise our swing changes
and we can't find that golf ball.
If we don't turn the right way,
we won't be able to transport those arms
around our body the right way.
And if we have the wrong timing
of when we put the speed in and decelerate,
then we won't be able to achieve distance
and again, consistency.
So we're looking for structure, structure,
tilted and turn in the right timing.
And if we do those things, you will play better golf.
So we said we'd give you things
to make you play better within 10 minutes.
So these things will take more than 10 minutes
to master for sure, but if you only need to work
on one of these things, you might already
have a really great pivot.
So you might be working on your arm structure
or you might be just working on your timing.
So if you can work on one of these things
and see how it improves your game
and let me know in the comments below
how you're getting on, that'd be absolutely great.
