BREAKING: This is a STEAL for The Cavs...
Jul 26, 2026
We have breaking news as Shams just posted that the Cleveland Cavaliers have made a huge
Signing that is a steal for the Cavs, especially on a cheap contract
He will play an immediate wing role for the Cavaliers replacing a former Cavaliers wing
We're here to talk about today on Cavs digest guys. This just happened
So make sure you sub to stay updated with this quick
Reliable Cavaliers content always posting all the rumors and all the news and all that good stuff, of course
But we'll talk about why this is a steal for the Cavaliers, let's dive straight into the news
Per Shams Arania, of course
I have his notifications on you're a league star Mario has zone
Yeah has agreed to a one-year two point eight million dollar deal to sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers
Mitchell Michael tell them of Excel sports management told ESPN
And I think this is an absolute steal for the Cavaliers on his contract because he is cheaper than the wing that
Was originally playing the role that I think has zone
Yeah is going to play for the Cavs the LeBron stopper LeBron went to Philly
But guess what? We have the guy to stop him Super Mario has zone. Yeah is here, baby
For those who don't know that's all I'm gonna say for those who don't know if you don't know now, you know
Let me show you why this is the LeBron stopper guys
There's no way Philly beats us because if you know
There was a game in Madison Square Garden in 2019 where LeBron James tried scoring or 2020 tried scoring a game winner on
Mario has only yet and has only a blocked him said get that weak stuff out of here in the next one the game in
Madison Square Garden
So the LeBron stopper has arrived in the wine and gold and which means that there is no way
Philadelphia ever beats us. Sure. We were whooping them last year. Jalen Tyson had like 40 on him and we added the goat of
guarding LeBron James
So there's no way
That this time around that we end up losing the Sixers for sure, but jokes aside, let's talk about his stats
Let's talk about his comparison. As I said to an immediate wing player. So I
Think has own you will play the Dean Wade role
I think he'll replace Dean Wade pretty convincingly and pretty easily
He's cheaper than Dean Wade and I actually think that they're very similar
The only thing Dean Wade has was a little bit of size
Of course, he can play the for his own
You can't really play the four but Dean Wade did start the small forward sometimes the backup
I think his own you has that opportunity to start but will primarily be the backup three and
I think that although he's going to get the 9 10 11 minutes on the bench
I think that he every time he plays is gonna be an immediate impact
Even if he doesn't score that well
So let's look at the last time he played in the NBA and then we'll talk about his EuroLeague performances for Manchester United
I think so his own yo was primarily known for being drafted top 5 overall
He was the fifth overall pick to the Orlando Magic in
2015 I believe
It wasn't 15. His last season was with the Blazers in 2019 2020 where he averaged five points a game three rebounds and assist
one steal point two blocks on about 17 minutes, but still playing 17 minutes and not scoring means you're playing for a reason and it's
Because he was a hustle player with decent perimeter defense
And if you don't know, I mean just under what he's I mean, I guess 30% from three
This season was kind of bad, but let's look at his stats from his whole career
he was always an
Inefficient three-point shooter and he came into the league with a knockdown three-point jumper and a decent defense
His end of the season his last season in Orlando and a season with New York
He was actually a pretty good impact player. But of course that low shooting percentage is a little concerning for the Cavs
But I think that just the way Atkinson develops three-point shooters and plays three-point shooters
I don't think his three-point shooting will look like 27% like it was in New York or 30% like it was in Portland
I think that it will honestly be good, especially because he's been shooting well
Overseas and I'll show you his overseas stats here now
But you kind of now have a general breakdown of who has on you is of course
He's not a high statistical player, but he is a good good defender
Like he actually is a good defender always got a steal a game
Sometimes a block like he blocked LeBron for the win
He plays really really hard, which is good and he's 6-6, which is a good shooting guard small for height
I think that he will
Replace Dean Wade and I'll talk about that in a second for why I think he's gonna replace Dean Wade
But let's show you kind of his overseas stats
Because we knew his own you going to claim was pretty likely
he was quoted as the fallback him and comingo were like fallback options for LeBron and
Getting him under getting him for two million dollars is like you can't even complain even if he doesn't play that much, right?
So you can kind of see it here
He's Croatian. He played for Manchester City position shooting guard. He've also played small forward average five rebounds
17.5 points one steal two assists overseas. So he's better than a lot of the overseas guys. He was really really good for them
He is 31 years old
Which is like whatever but which isn't that old that's like prime age of NBA there
The prime is like between ages 27 31 depends on the fire, of course
But his own is about kind of reaching that point where he doesn't have that
Many opportunities and the Cavs and warriors where the teams would get willing to give him one and he decided to make his friend the
NBA signing with the Cavs. I just it was a former fifth overall pick had a lot of potential
Came into the league as a sniper and a good perimeter defender now
His shooting kind of wasn't as good as we thought it would be in the NBA. It was kind of a bust
So he played a little bit had some good plays in New York Portland and Orlando then decided to dominate overseas
Now he's back in the NBA on the Cavaliers
But I think this is a steal truly because I showed you the financial situation of the Cavs
We talked about second apron team. They don't have hardener right now
But when they sign him, it'll be second apron Donovan Mitchell's game paid 70 million dollars
So you can't really do much with your contract situation now that you lost out on LeBron
So you have to go ahead and get guys like his own yet to build up some depth
And I think he does have some depth because as I said, I think he is an immediate wing replacement for Dean Wade
Of course Dean Wade long extended Cavalier for a while
But just to kind of compare the two statistics
Throughout their career as you see five-point score for rebounds
He gets more boards and he is kind of he is taller
So he can play the power for his own you can't which is a little which does suck a little bit
I really hope the Cavs don't try to force him at power forward
Because you know the Cavs sometimes they like to just put small players in bigger positions for some reason
But but nonetheless Dean Wade is with Philly with LeBron, of course
So the Cavs will now have to find a perimeter defender who can hit some shots
And I think that his own yeah is very equal to Dean Wade and D
We was making like six million dollars as I'm just making three or two point five
So you get it you get a Dean Wade for cheaper. Basically, as I said, he is smaller. So we can't play the four
He's not gonna really help you on the rebounds that much
He can crash the glass at 6-6 because he does hustle and he is a hard defender. Like he does play pretty
Rough, which is good. He's willing to talk trash willing to laugh at LeBron, which I think is a good thing and
His owners wanting to come back to the NBA gives the Cavaliers an opportunity to just add some depth for cheap
Now cominga the Rosen are the last two guys that we're gonna sit here and keep our eyes on
Maybe Kevin Durant. I doubt that's gonna happen
But I think the Cavs are keeping their eye on Kuminga and the Rosen now
So they can kind of now add a legitimate small forward power forward. I think Kuminga is probably your best bet
because Kuminga
Can play the power forward
so the Cavs will be able to add a guy that can play the three and four while his owner the other end just plays
the three and the two
So what?
Why I think because LeBron is gone. You have to go to your fallback options
Kuminga is like
Begging for 20 million dollars. There's no way the Cavs can pay Kuminga 20 million dollars
There's no way now if you can do a sign and trade, but I think Atlanta is gonna be very very
Subtle on what they do for sign and trades
So I think that you need to add as much depth as you can for cheap
I think that now you have a small forward. So you have Tyson Struess. I think is still available for trading and
I guess you for shooting guards you have Merrill and other than the starters like Harden and Mitchell
But now you have a guy that can just kind of swing around and you're like, hey
We need like a stop and maybe a three-pointer he can come in
He's not gonna get as much minutes as Dean Wade
because Dean Wade started in the playoffs and also can play the power forward and get your rebounds because he's bigger and taller but I
Think his own you has a reason to get minutes
But that's just my opinion and I think even though he might not be a super stellar 30 minutes a game 30 points
This is a 2.5 million dollar signing that just adds depth. Now. You have a player you can play
He's played 15 plus minutes for many games many of the season by most of them almost all of them
Probably so you have a guy that can immediately come in and play playing time. He's coming off a good season with Manchester United
He's been good overseas. So he's still warm. It's not like he just has been out of basketball for years
He was just out of the NBA for about four or five six years
But now he's back and he's going to be in the wine and gold
So go ahead and comment below what you think about this Mario has only a sign. I think it's a steal
I think it's a good safe signing. I think that does suck. We miss on LeBron, of course
