Welcome to vlog 34, where we are still in the Darrens,
we're still in the fjords, and we're not complaining. No, they're beautiful.
So we left you off in vlog 33 with some sands,
up in Little Babylon. Lots of climbing up there,
after a couple days touring around in each little zone of the cliff,
we decided to try harder stuff.
And the first one was the Giving Tree.
The Giving Tree, 8b. It's pretty cool, it's bouldery, tricky,
some good rest, but once you figure out, it's just like, try hard.
Josh's challenge, during midday, we're bored because it's sunny,
hang here, toe hook, toe hook, toe hook,
match foot, toe hook, toe hook.
We are on a ferry in Milford Sound.
It's in the fjords. We just went out of the fjords,
all the way to Tasman Sea,
and now we're coming back to Milford Sound,
and we're going to see some seals, and some waterfalls,
and some beautiful landscape, as you can see behind me.
Colossus. Colossus. 8c. 8c.
Alright, it starts with a very, very easy slab,
that we don't show on the video, and then there's two slightly overhanging cruxes.
Yeah, it's cool. High left foot, toe in on a really good foothold,
and it just sucks your hip to the wall, and then you can move on these bad holds,
big bump to a good jug.
So you get to that big hold, where you get a decent rest.
How many moves is that crux?
Nine, ten. Nine, ten, ten.
Hard moves on a bulge.
It was kind of cool, because it's the first time we get on the route,
we did every move pretty quick, almost easy,
and we were like, alright, you're going to do it,
but there's a move I couldn't do.
And I came down, and I was like, alright, I've got to find another project.
And then we came back, and I tried again,
and I really wanted to find a way to go through it.
And I found something, which is kind of the reverse of the crux move you do.
Are we out of here? We're leaving the Dharins!
That right there was my first official 8c.
I say official, because some of the trees I've scaled in my time are pretty tough.
Wet, tall, freaky branches.
I think one of the trees could have been an 8c tree.
Yes! And that was the first female 8c ascent in New Zealand.
That's cool!
We just have positives from that place.
Yeah, the Dharins was sick.
We could hate it, as we were saying.
It's raining a lot, the hike is always wet,
the humidity is pretty present up there.
Yeah, it's risky.
You don't have internet, you don't have your phone connection.
You could hate it, but we absolutely loved it.
See you in Vlog 35!
So yeah, that concludes Vlog 34 of our trip in the Dharins.
Today is December 22nd, and we're about to spend two days bouldering.
In the Alpine.
Looking at snowy Mongkuk.
And let me tell you, I'm psyched.
You can catch us in Vlog 35.
Bouldering!
You should follow us along.
You can follow our adventures.
Is that alright with you guys?
Follow us.
If you don't like us, don't follow us.
