I don't even know if I'm supposed to say that.
I think it's our community.
Don't, don't get it twisted.
Selena, lovely to meet you.
Oh, I'm so happy to meet you.
Congratulations on a new fragrance, which I'm yet to try.
I know, I'm so eager.
Your honest thoughts, because I don't mind.
We can do honest thoughts.
Okay.
So tell me, let's, let's have a spray.
I want to know what it smells like and how you want me to feel.
Okay, this one on purpose is called Rare Beginning.
Yes.
Because I always feel like in new situations, even if it's a challenge, you get a fresh start.
No matter how much you fall down, you can get back up and have a new start.
And that's a new beginning.
So for me, after I got married, I wanted to make a fragrance that was my new chapter of my life.
So when you smell it at first, it has a wonderful pear nectar.
Should we get it on the skin?
Okay, let's do it.
I'm trusting in you.
Here, and then a little here.
Thank you.
Would you adapt?
Yeah.
You want it to air for a second.
So it's a little pear nectar.
Yeah.
Then it settles into this nice like gardenia jasmine.
And then it warms down with a vanilla bean.
And I'm obsessed with how it warms.
So it kind of changes throughout the day.
Yeah, it's beautiful.
Which is really nice.
Yeah.
So I felt like making this a fresh scent would be a great way to say that this is a new chance.
But it's so much pressure putting out a second one after the first one.
I bet.
When you're creating a fragrance, we all know that fragrance is about feeling,
just as much by how it smells.
How do you want to feel when you're wearing this?
Well, since we've been trying all the different formulas, what I felt is excitement, refreshment.
If that's a word.
Yeah.
But some kind of new.
And that's why we came up with the name Rare Beginnings, New Beginnings.
That was the idea because I just kept saying it felt refreshing and new, like different.
And that's something that we ended up collaborating with and
coming up with because that's what it makes me want to feel love, adventure and excitement.
Yeah.
All the good things to feel, especially in summer when we've got this beautiful weather.
You have the most perfect weather.
You're beating L.A. right now.
But UK's not always like this.
I think you've booped ahead with this one.
I did.
You were talking about the new beginnings and memories.
What's your first ever fragrance memory?
Oh, I would have to say probably something like a Bath & Body Works.
Yeah.
I don't know if you have that here.
Oh, OK, OK.
So that's where I when I was younger, I just that's the only time I remember.
So I think for me, I've never been a big fragrance person until I started to do this with
working with incredible people and testing the different notes and how they would change over
time. It was really interesting.
So now I don't leave anything without a little spreads and spreads.
And when you were testing this and going through sampling,
what was the moment when you tried to sample and you thought, stop, OK, this is it.
We've nailed it.
When I overthink between two or three that we've narrowed down,
it doesn't allow me to feel anything.
So I just try to wear them for two days each, see what the reactions are.
And obviously, my husband, I like to see what he finds nice.
And it was really that's how I picked it.
I can't overthink.
If I overthink, it's too much.
Did you both agree on this one?
We did.
Yeah, I mean, he did.
We worked on it.
Don't don't get it twisted.
But he absolutely liked it.
Yeah.
You've had loads of different periods in your life.
When you think, say, several years time,
when you think back in this period of your life and this fragrance, what do you want to remember?
I hope to remember that no matter what goes on, there's always a chance to try again.
And that's something I need to work on,
because, you know, I'm hard on myself and too critical and in my head.
So it's just allowing me to have a new beginning.
Yeah, I love that.
Who do you think of when you're creating this?
Is there someone in your head when you're like,
that's my friend or that's, you know, my partner?
Or is there someone in your head that you're like, I want them to love this or wear this?
I think it's our community.
We have such a tight community that means the world to me
that we've built over the past six years now.
And they mean a lot to me.
So whenever I make something, I want to create it authentically.
Personally, I want it to be authentically me.
But I want to also consider that they are going to try this and hopefully they like it.
Are you already thinking about the next fragrance?
I don't even know if I'm supposed to say that, but I just can't help it.
I get so excited and I live with these fragrances for months and years.
And then it's just exciting.
I got addicted once I started getting into fragrances and notes and different
scents and where they come from.
Yeah.
Yeah, I've been making my own fragrances too.
And I can understand that you get into it and you want more.
And you want it to be perfect.
Yeah.
And you take things so personally when people say,
I love that or I want more of this.
You get that.
I get that.
I know that feeling.
It's like, OK, I get it.
Yeah.
I got to do this and maybe consider this and tweak it.
And it's wearing well, I should say.
Oh, good.
The pear is juicy.
The nectar is sweet.
Those white florals.
Yes.
I love.
And I think it's very just gentle and it'll just warm down more and more, which I love.
Selena, thank you very much.
Thank you.
So lovely to meet you and congratulations again.
I appreciate it.
This is so lovely.
Thank you.
I love this conversation.
Thank you.
