consider pressing the subscribe button if you're not subscribed all right let's move on to what we
want to talk about on today's episode we got multiple reports to break down first things first
Stafford and Adams how good are they looking right now they are continuing to build elite
chemistry that's what the tweets are saying that's people are going to training camp are saying
Adams once again was one of these stars of practice consistently creating separation
making difficult catches Stafford looked comfortable targeting his new number one
receiver in a variety of situations reinforcing that this connection is becoming one of the
offense's biggest strengths heading into the season and I mean we talk about this all last
year in the beginning of the year how how off the two were in terms of just connecting they
weren't really there because Stafford was missing training camp dealing with the injuries Devontae
coming to a new team coming to play with a new quarterback he actually talked about this
recently he was breaking down how CJ Daniels a six-run pick for the Rams is kind of growing and
working and it feels like Devontae really is taking him under his wing and kind of teaching
him and mentoring the kid to kind of how he can grow as a professional and so Devontae when talking
about that he said look he's coming to the NFL he's coming to a new level you can see a little
bit of at first or before they had like a five-week break before training camp started you can see
during the mini camps like there was some hesitation at times for CJ Daniels and and Devontae
expressed like hey look I had a deal with growing with a new quarterback playing with a new
quarterback that's going to be a situation for the rookie as well and so he understands that
perspective kind of laid that that perspective over to CJ Daniels it looks like CJ Daniels
has improved since those rookie mini camps and so the shout out to Devontae for that but he's
acknowledging hey look I had growing pains playing with a new quarterback just last season so I know
how it feels and we know we saw that ourselves right just kind of seeing how Devontae and Stafford
weren't really connecting early in the year and even when you look at the stats for the full season
14 games played so shout out to Devontae for being relatively healthy most of the year and to the end
they're dealing with that hamstring injury but at 33 years of age he played 14 games he had 60
receptions on 114 targets which is not the most efficient uh work in terms of his catch percentage
right but 789 yards not the most yardage the yak wasn't there as well for Devontae and not as much
as it has been in the past in his career at his prime at his peak but he still was able to peak
with 14 receiving touchdowns I think it was number one in the NFL with uh the receiving touchdowns
ranked number one in the NFL for receiving touchdowns for Devontae helping lead Stafford
right to that MVP to that 40 plus touch passing touchdown season for Matthew Stafford obviously
you see the separation wasn't great the cushion wasn't great the catch percentage wasn't great
the yak wasn't great all of that is definitely in is affecting the total numbers the total yardage
for Devontae Adams he talked about himself though that grown those growing pains those learning
learning how to get on the same page with a new quarterback there are adjustments to be had even
for a veteran who's been in the league for as long as Devontae Adams has been and so I'm saying
all that to say yes is Devontae Adams one year older 100% understand he could be on a decline
but I honestly think Devontae is more comfortable in this offense he's more comfortable Matthew
Stafford I think he's more comfortable with himself in this offense I truly believe Devontae
Adams is going to have an even better year than he did last season maybe not in terms of touchdowns
receiving touchdowns is a lot I think he still be will be a really popular target for Matthew
Stafford but I do think he's going to improve in terms of that total yardage I wouldn't be surprised
if we see Devontae Adams go for over 1,000 yards this upcoming season alongside Pukunukuwa doing
his same thing on the opposite side this offense is going to be great because the defense is also
going to be great it's going to lead to this offense being really really good as well so
shout out to Devontae Adams shout out to Matthew Stafford for kind of just uh having these this
early spark in training camp love to see the stars going out there making things happen early
in training camp because you know the Rams want to see this offense the fans want to see this
offense succeed when they go out and watch these practices so shout out to Devontae and and um
and Stafford for delivering on that they're looking pretty good thus far uh Myles Garrett is
out back to back days shout out to Joshua Finers he posted a full video on the update yesterday just
kind of some hypotheticals on the concerns there and how this can affect the defense going into
the season and whatnot but I also want to make sure I emphasize this is not a major concern
multiple coaches have said it's not a major concern it's more of like rest precautionary
he's dealing with some soreness I want to make sure that obviously Myles Garrett is doing okay
and healthy when it comes down to the important stuff like the regular season uh right now I want
to make sure he's good to go if he's dealing with any type of small injury take him out let him rest
don't don't push him too hard because we know we really need him when the pads are on and the
Myles Garrett remains out the Rams aren't concerned Garrett missed another practice
because of what McVay described as a minor lower back lower body soreness the coaching staff has
emphasized that the absence is precautionary rather than a sign of a serious injury prioritizing
having him healthy for week one like I just said over maximizing training camp reps obviously we
don't really need him to be out there getting all the reps necessarily I want to see him getting
some reps like Josh Finer said that's so important to see the number one guy getting reps we want to
see these actually backups and these guys behind Myles Garrett getting their reps as well because
hey what if he does deal with some soreness or some injuries when the season comes uh that
obviously is going to be important for the backups to to be ready to roll but in terms of that again
going back to not being concerned about Myles Garrett I just wanted to screenshot this for you
all here is Myles Garrett's full uh career thus far since 2017 when he was the number one overall
pick in the NFL draft uh early in his career looked like he was dealing with some injuries
but since 2021 the last five years again knock on wood want to make sure he stays healthy this year
but over the last five years Myles Garrett has done a really good job of taking care of himself
taking care of his body and being healthy for a Browns team that had not seen that much playoff
success so you're looking for a guy who's hungry to get that playoff success hungry to be on a team
that could potentially win a Super Bowl last uh since 2021 17 games played 16 16 17 17 so obviously
a guy who's played 134 games in his career got a lot of uh tread on those tires but the same time
been relatively healthy over the last five seasons so we love to see that hoping hoping that continues
again knock on wood that continues into this upcoming season we should not be too worried about
injury concerns over Myles Garrett just yet obviously if anything comes up we'll discuss
we'll break it down but look at those numbers man 23 sacks last year then 14 14 16 16 uh the last
couple years before that the Rams are in a very very fortunate situation to have Myles Garrett
on their squad moving on from that uh the defense by the way if you're worried about the defense
without Myles Garrett how they've been performing they've been performing pretty well that was
another note from camp the defense continues to show an impressive depth and energy especially
on that d-line even without Myles Garrett on the field the Rams defense remained competitive
veterans and newcomers alike have drawn praise for the unit's communication and versatility and
intensity suggesting the defense is quickly developing chemistry under coordinator Chris
Shula that's exciting look at these notes here from a couple tweets first and tuna says interception
by cam curl nothing open Stafford looks to tay with a collapsing pocket doesn't see curl undercut
the route and he's running the other way this is after Stafford and tay again we just talked about
have had a great practice they had a great day and still cam curl went out there and said i'm
gonna disrupt this great day and have an interception take it the other way and then
another deep uh ball pass breakup for the defense Stafford almost hits tay down the field again
those guys had a great day and still the defense made some plays occasionally Watson catches up
last moment and rips it down from tay incomplete instead of a touchdown i also did see a play where
Devontae Adams was running looks back Jalen Watson's covering him and Matthew Stafford
puts his ball in like a magician way right into the hip of Devontae Adams insane catch insane uh
it looks good on both ends and that is iron sharpens iron right here you're going to hear
that all day every day this is one of the best defenses in the nfl against one of the best
offenses in the nfl super exciting for the ramps to have that every single day in their prep because
when it comes down to the regular season these guys are going to be ready to roll against pretty
much anybody that they face you got Myles Garrett facing Myles Garrett on one side and in terms of
the offense and that defense Myles Garrett having to face a guy like Stafford in this offense
he's just going to help this team be more and more prepared for the regular season all right
moving on from that we do have an injury update to the tight end room we are talking about Davis
Allen unfortunately he is dealing with an injury looks like he's going to miss some time Sean McVay
said Allen has a soft tissue quad injury those are not uh fun to deal with and it's considered day
to day slash week to week so not looking like he's going to be rushed back they're going to
kind of let him uh heal and recover which is good news for him but also scary news for him
I think if you're Davis Allen because he is one of those guys does he do the rams even have space
on this roster for Davis Allen they have a lot of tight ends in his tight end room is Davis Allen
being hurt just going to leave him as the odd man out of this tight end room we'll have to wait and
see on that the rams aren't rushing him back believing he'll still play a significant role
in the offensive season of course they're going to say that right now of course they're going to
say it right now he just he's dealing with an injury he can't control that he's not gonna be
able to practice so Sean McVay has to come out and say look if we plan on him being an important
piece of this offense but I am concerned a little bit for his own sake his own career the rams are
gonna be fine at tight end without David Davis Allen I think but I'm hoping that Davis Allen
I'm sure he wants to hope as well that he could get healthy and play because uh the rams do have
a lot of depth here Tyler Higby Kobe Parkinson those two guys are gonna be your more consistent
offensive weapons you got Terrence Ferguson as a sneaky kind of slot receiver type tight end down
the field we've seen what he can do there rookie Max Claire also providing depth while Allen
recovers so Allen is a good blocking tight end I think he's been kind of put in that uh situation
with the 12 personnel 13 personnel a lot of that being out there multiple tight end uh looks for
the rams on offense he's been a guy who can go out there get 24 catches 208 yards last season not too
bad right in terms of a backup tight end situation but also a good run blocker one of the best run
blockers in this tight end room so that's important for Davis Allen for sure he needs to make sure he
goes out there and blocks this year to make sure he gets some playing time but I do think with four
tight ends on the roster healthy it's a concern for Davis Allen in terms of what he's going to
look like next season is he going to play much who knows but again this depth I mean the rams are in
pretty good hands with just these two guys alone right Tyler Higby and Terrence Ferguson are going
to do a lot of stuff a lot of great work on offense let alone one of Matthew Stafford's
favorite tight ends uh being Kobe Parkinson out there we've seen what he can do game winning
touchdown type stuff shout out to Kobe Parkinson and what he's done in his career so far with the
Rams have a plethora of tight ends that's a good news but just letting it noting it there if you
guys are curious as to why you're seeing Davis Allen maybe not out there as much maybe not out
there during the season this could be a start of something that that is trending in that direction
where maybe Davis Allen could be the odd man out we'll see we'll give him some time to recover for
sure I want to see him healthy we'll see him in a couple weeks hopefully he's back sooner rather
than later moving on from that last but not least kind of the big point I want to talk about on
we'll make it quick though I've been keeping up enough of your guys time uh so far in training
camp shout out to Ty Simpson we want him to do well we want him to succeed we want him to be that
backup quarterback for the Rams because the Rams took him in the first round but the reality is we
talked about this over and over and over again he is probably not going to be ready to be your
backup quarterback this season puts a lot of pressure on the shoulders of Stetson Bennett
but the good thing is Stetson Bennett has responded right now Stetson Bennett has a firm grip on the
quarterback two job Bennett continues to impress coaches with his command of the offense and
efficient play Sean McVay even praised his development and the backup quarterback competition
appears to be tilting decisively in Bennett's favor as he continues stacking strong practices
I mean today I think one of the biggest things for me is that um uh Ty Simpson actually had
basically had another day off from practice but either day off from from competing uh basically
competing with uh these the ones and the twos uh he was not uh chosen to go out and get the reps
Matthew Stafford and Stetson Bennett actually got every rep in terms of the team drill so if you're
talking about Ty Simpson his career his career path so far early in his young NFL career it's
definitely looking like he's going to be a quarterback three at this point again we're still
so early in the process um so I'm not really going to be worried about this it's not a concern it's
just a note of like hey if you're curious what the backup quarterback situation is if you're hoping
that Ty Simpson is that backup quarterback right now tilting towards Stetson Bennett not necessarily
a surprise there the guy's been in the NFL for quite some time an older prospect when he came
out of college after winning the uh the national championship in college as like a 25 year old
quarterback of course uh he should be actually uh in a better position uh to step up and step into
that backup quarterback role so good for Stetson Bennett to be stepping up it's important for the
Rams for him uh to be uh comfortable in the offense looking good at least because you need
to have a good backup quarterback just in case Ty Simpson isn't ready to go at all this upcoming
season which again is something that I kind of anticipate being the case I'm not sure Ty Simpson
will be ready at all this upcoming season to start many if any games at all for the Rams uh that's
gonna do it for me on today's episode of the Rams digest before you guys go one more time please do
me a favor and consider pressing that subscribe button before you go like I said about 60 percent
