Considering who should serve as the next attorney general is one of the most important things we will do as a committee and I think it's important that the American people understand the reasoning of each of us who are about to take this vote. I've been consistent in saying there's three factors I consider for every cabinet nominee and I have worked well with attorneys general of both parties and for presidents of both parties. I review their qualifications, their experience, their capacity to do the job, but also their policy views and their character and independence, their ability to do to do the job with integrity. Throughout the decades since the Watergate crisis both parties have consistently recognized the importance of an attorney general who can and will stand up to the president and say no and serve as an attorney general in defense of the constitution not just the agenda of any one president. Will acting attorney general Blanche meet that standard? We have clear evidence he will not. You can literally take it from his words before this committee saying the department is not independent from President Trump and shouldn't be and frankly among many things that have been articulated in great detail by Senators Whitehouse and Klobuchar I think the anti-weaponization fund as a proposal and a concept along with the sweeping liability release order that Mr. Blanche signed might well be the most brazenly corrupt and unethical thing this administration has attempted.
