A video guiding how to make an innovative raw vegan sushi dish, replacing traditional rice with blended apples to create a similar texture while supporting better digestion. The video also emphasizes using fresh ingredients from the garden, combined with seasonings like tamari, ginger, and red onion to create an authentic sushi flavor without using rice.

Hey Frugivore, I have a recipe for you.
This is a raw vegan or raw food sushi recipe and it is amazing because it has apple rice.
And I have not seen a recipe like this anywhere on the internet because I tried to search
for it one day because I'm like, how about using apple for the rice instead of like cauliflower,
which is just so low carbon, so pathetic.
So we are going to change the game here with this sunshine sushi, I like to call it.
And the recipe is in my frugivore diet course, but I just wanted to like show you it because
I wanted you to try it because it's just so amazing.
So this is from the garden, we have, you're going to need some lettuce, dry lettuce leaves,
coriander, rocket, carrots, cucumber, some red onion, most of this is from the garden
except the red onion, some ginger and some coconut flesh.
And it's up to you if you have the coconut flesh and you don't, you don't need this many
ingredients either, but I want it to taste really authentic, so I go a bit crazy on the
ingredients.
So this is just tamari and sugar soaked mushroom slices, we got some sushi seasoning because
we want it to be like tasting authentic.
We have sugar, a couple of tablespoons of pure sun crystals, we have tamari, I'm sure
you all know tamari.
We have two different types of sesame seeds, we've got the black and we've got the normal
ones.
Onion powder, this is some like horseradish powder, you don't need that but it kind of
replaces wasabi.
And the apples, I've got like 800 grams of apples so it's a bit over 400 calories.
It's good because you need to get enough calories in and I hate the fact that the cauliflower
one just leaves you so unsatisfied.
Alright and of course the nori sheets and that's it, we're going to get started.
And the way I prepared these was just with this device, hang on let me get it, I didn't
show you because I mean you can look it up and get one, they're so handy, it actually
cores it and peels it all at the same time, it was like 10 bucks or less, it's such a
bargain.
Definitely get it.
Okay so first step is make some room so the people can see, okay and I've got just a little
food processor here, it's better if you have a bigger one so you can do just one batch
but this is fine.
And I just chuck them in, break it in half, chuck it in, I eat this a couple of times
a week and I don't find it too much prep, honestly I'm dropping it everywhere here but
I don't find it too much prep for like the reward that you get because it's so delicious
and the apple, apple rice really makes a difference and you can just like spice up the apple you
know so it tastes really quite authentic sushi and that's what we're going to do so just
do as many as you can, add a small knob of ginger, chuck that one in and then you can
kind of just get a bit excited and do a few crazy things like put in the sushi seasoning,
I do it now but you can do it after you squeeze the apples out as well but I kind of like
it to go all through the apple so just a little bit each time, I would say like half a tablespoon
or something, you could also add a little bit of tamari, it might change the colour
of the rice so it's probably not the best, you can put in a few of these and some onion
powder, that's onion powder, it's up to you if you want to do that, definitely put in
some fresh red onion and sugar, sugar is important too, it just makes it all better, sugar makes
everything better, all right now we are going to process it, okay here we are, we're going
to process it, you don't have to pulse it, you can just do it on one go, so you don't
want to do it too long in case it becomes kind of like apple sauce but you want it to
be long enough so it's like a rice-like texture which I'll show you, that's kind of what we're
looking at okay, all right so now you can see the consistency of the rice and it's pretty
amazing right, it's very rice-like, it's full of good bacteria, it's really, it's awesome like a
lot of pectin, very good for gut health, now we have to take some of the juice out of this or
it's going to be way too much liquid, okay so the next step is you have to remove the moisture from
the apple as much as possible, again I usually just use my both hands and just squeeze it,
squeeze it out like that and you can get like a lot, you can get enough out like that and just
keep going but if you don't want to put your hands in it or you know you make it for someone else and
it doesn't feel right then definitely use like a cheesecloth bag or the equivalent and I'll get
those little bits that are falling in there as well at the end and yeah just keep doing that
until you have drained all you know quite a good amount of the apple juice away
and the remaining apple juice plus the sushi seasoning and a few other flavors is actually
pretty nice, I try not to drink it because it's like you know basically vinegar and not really
the best thing but it's not too bad either so if you want to try you can, okay I'm gonna just
squeeze all this out now, it doesn't take too long, so this is what our sushi rice looks like
looks alright right, pretty cool, so we got our nori sheet and we've got all our ingredients
and we're going to start with lettuce, okay so it's important that the lettuce is dry,
okay we want to form a barrier between the lettuce, sorry the apple and the nori sheet because
it's definitely at risk of going through the nori sheet and yeah that's not what you want,
you want the nori sheet to be protected and to actually hold your sushi together
so I just layer it to about a bit over halfway with the lettuce and you can kind of like just
crunch down the spine so it's not too stiff and then you go in, go in with the rice,
don't overstuff it too much or it will not roll too well, but you can see how like the
lettuce is definitely doing its job here forming that barrier and the rice is feeling very
dry too which is great, probably that will be enough, okay quite flat and I mean at this point
also you could be a bit crazy and you could add a little bit of tamari but I'm going to have tamari
dipping sauce anyway so but it's just nice to get, you know you've got to get flavor into the rice
just like with you know normal cooked sushi rice, you've got to get it into the rice so it tastes
good every bite and that's why this is good, this one actually has quite a bit of flavor infused
and yeah normal rice is very constipating, it slows down your digestion, slows down your
elimination and that's one of the biggest problems in society actually, health issues,
is digestion being slowed down mainly by animal protein but also you know
vegetable protein, beans, complex carbohydrates like rice, you know rice is commonly prescribed
by doctors as like an anti-diarrhea food because it slows digestion so much so for that it's good
but that's not what you want as human frugivore, we are fast digesting animals so you need foods
that digest quickly and that's a simple carbohydrates like fruits and these are also fine
a little bit of this and that so I've also got some rocket, some coconut flesh and you can also
marinate the coconut flesh, you know bring in more flavor into the middle of the roll
and you can also just put some of this and as you can see I don't have any avocado,
you can add it but it's not, you know it just slows down your digestion like I was talking
about and we don't want to do that and I think just having these seeds is enough
really, you don't need to be adding any more and at this point you could also add wasabi
if you wanted, all right and now we have to roll it, gotta be quite careful with the rolling,
gotta squeeze it in as much as you can and you don't want to break the nori, yeah try and make
it as high as you can and you can also use a bamboo sushi mat as well of course and just to
wet the end bit, there we have the rolled nori, now we have to cut it, it's important to have a
really sharp knife and I don't really have that but we're gonna do the best we can and you should
always wet your knife and make sure the blade has enough moisture on it so then that helps the knife
go through the nori and then you cut it up as best you can, yummy, unfortunately my knife is
very blunt so it's kind of pushing on this nori rather than going through it but we will deal
with it, sorry if the view is not great but you know how to cut sushi hopefully, that's how it's
looking and we've got quite a bit of rice left so you know the amount of calories you get you end
up getting probably around 600 although you might miss out on the apple juice if you don't want to
eat the apple juice and the vinegar together, the sushi rice seasoning but you're definitely getting
like around 500 calories and that's not bad really considering you know the normal raw vegan sushi is
just low carb and pretty low calories but it's usually made up with a lot of fat which we don't
want we're trying to avoid that, I find these are great because you don't actually digest them all
I mean you digest them but you don't actually break them all down because they're just little
seeds that can pass through but you get enough to get that flavor and yeah it's pretty good
tamari and sugar is a match made in heaven honestly, okay there we have it but we're
going to add a little bit more excitement here, some sesame seeds so I've got tamari here and
I'm going to add a little bit of the tamari, the apple juice and sushi seasoning to the tamari
to like kind of dilute it a bit because I don't like to have it
you know too much sodium and there you have the sunshine sushi, so good and yeah you can just dip
dip it in and munch, so good, try it, let me know in the comments if you try it
by the way with the horseradish like the wasabi I just put the powder in and just put a tiny bit of
water and it's kind of like this consistency and then I put like a dollop on top
and there's a bit of tamari and sugar
