In this video, we’re at the Samson Airstream Rally catching up with Paul, who has created one of the most unique and functional tow vehicle setups we’ve ever seen. Built on a Ford F-350 chassis, this custom truck body by Stonewall Bodies is specifically designed to maximize every inch of space for long-haul Airstream travels.
What’s inside this insane build:
Outdoor Kitchen: A full slide-out kitchen featuring a pizza oven (that reaches 900°!), a barbecue, and a dedicated prep area.
E-Bike Tunnel: A clever center tunnel designed to fit ebikes, handlebars and all, without sacrificing side storage.
Smart Power & Water: Integrated Blueetti power station, water filtration system, and an onboard air compressor.
Man-Land & Storage: Dedicated space for golf clubs, tools, recovery gear, and even a "closet" for hiking and outdoor weather gear.
Heavy-Duty Specs: With a 4,300 lb payload capacity, this rig handles the custom body, all the gear, and the Airstream tongue weight with ease.
Whether you're planning a trip to Alaska or just looking for the ultimate boondocking setup, Paul’s rig is packed with inspiration for any Airstreamer.

This video features a tour of a highly customized \"command CARV\" tow vehicle designed by Paul to pull his Airstream. Built on a 350 chassis with a Stonewall Bodies shell, the rig is an adventure-ready powerhouse featuring a full slide-out kitchen, e-bike storage, and advanced power systems, designed to maximize utility and payload for long-term boondocking and travel.
Hey, welcome to Zephyr Travels. In a recent rally that we attended,
there was a gentleman there that had a very unique tow rig for his Airstream.
So, I want to show you that now in this video.
I'm here at the Samson Airstream Rally with Paul, and he's got a really unique tow vehicle that
I've asked him to show us around. So, take it away, because I don't know where to begin on this.
So, adventure vehicle. So, pull an Airstream, air ride, air suspension, air hitch. Everyone's
talking about the quality of ride, but we still have to carry all our stuff.
Right, right, exactly.
So, my wife said she wanted a pizza oven. So, we have a full kitchen on the side,
on a slide, a pizza oven, on a slide, a barbecue. We just have to be careful about what we're
putting beside our fridge freezer. So, the configuration had to be barbecue and then
pizza oven, because that's 900 degrees.
Yeah.
It's hard to melt the cooler.
Yeah, everything on slide. So, you get this nice long prep area.
So, one of us could be standing here in the prep. The other person's still standing in the
cooking zone and be able to do that. So, we have a lot of comfortable space. So, you need propane,
water, power. There's a Blue Eddy power station. I'm a fan of them because the output it gives you,
it's almost 2,600 watts.
Yeah.
Charging off the alternator of your vehicle.
Okay.
So, that's independent system. Cooking utensils, lights everywhere. The design was about making a
pizza oven, refrigerator, and e-bikes fit in a truck.
That was a criteria that you needed to work around.
Yeah. So, once we had that with the manufacture of Stonewall Bodies,
they were able to let me play with an existing design.
Okay.
The command access vehicle is now changed to the command C-A-R-V.
E-bikes, whatever you want, full slide, 500-pound weight. That's going to just support anything.
Right.
So, the object was, how do you get handlebars and pedals in a center tunnel that's going to
fit kitchen on one side and then man land on the other? So, the hitch goes on this tray.
Okay.
Shocker air hitch goes there. Storage, water filtration system, golf clubs.
Tools, and then all the diesel stuff.
But we managed on the front bulkhead wall to put one of those telescoping ladders
and the extension cord. So, that's in a tray up there.
Very nice.
My wife took all of the closets in the Airstream,
even though we chose a Globetrotter with a lot of closets.
Yeah.
So, I had to get my own.
So, that's e-bike helmets, hiking gear, outdoor weather gear.
Right.
So, this can be an adventure vehicle. And if we do choose to throw a rooftop tent on it,
on the rack, then we can go to Alaska. We could be away from the Airstream for a couple of months.
Right. So, you have a rack on the top that can support a tent or whatever. Perfect.
Water bladder if you're going to be taking stuff back and forth to the campsite.
Yep.
So, we're thinking about those types of things for boondocking.
And this is on what chassis?
We went with the 350.
350.
Because it's 1,000 pounds you're adding with the body before you put your stuff in it.
Right.
So, this particular configuration is 4,300 pounds payload. So, it's 1,000 for the body.
It's 1,000 for your gear. It's 1,000 for your trailer weight.
Yeah.
So, I needed that little buffer.
Right. Right. And for the 1,000 pounds of the body on there, just smooths out the ride.
It does. It was able to hide. Oh, you're so kind.
Good Canadian beer from Stouffville.
Oh, very nice.
This is unbelievable. I've never seen anything like it. It's really cool.
I put the diving plate that's on the bumper on the roof.
Okay.
As well. So, there's another layer to add support and be able to put that water
bladder or climb up there for the rooftop tent.
Yeah.
So, we're thinking ahead that if that is when we do the Alaska Adventure, that's an opportunity.
Right.
To be able to utilize the roof of the body.
Right. So, then it folds out from all the sides. So, you got access to everything.
Everything folds down for travel.
Recovery gear. So, blocks and chains, whatever.
On the other side is your wheel shocks for your trailer.
And there is an air compressor and air tank tucked under the back bumper.
Okay.
So, that's that front compartment at the very bottom is that.
Right down here. Yeah.
Very, very nice. This is really cool.
And I like the Airstream inspired window look.
Yes. And here's my wall of shame. Might as well show that off.
So, those are all the people that I trust.
Nice. Very nice.
Well, Paul, I really appreciate you taking a minute to show us this. This is really cool.
Thank you.
Thank you very much.
