An NFL insider drops a sickening Eagles injury report as the Eagles offense has been the talk
of the offseason in trying to rewrite the wrongs from 2025. This new report has the chance to
throw a big wrench in the plans for this year's offense. I'll tell you why here on another
edition of Eagles Digest on how the Eagles can go about this situation with their injuries at
this point in time and see if they have any silver linings in their wide receiver room.
We'll talk all about that and more on another edition of Eagles Digest. Welcome on in everyone
to the channel. My name is Alex Brooks. Make sure you guys are subscribed to Eagles Digest as we are
trying to get to 3000 subscribers here on the channel. It is free. And we are trying to really
just pump out a lot of content for you guys in regards to training camp when it comes to the
preseason. And then when it comes to the regular season, we're going to have some special things
for you here on this channel. So make sure you guys are subscribed to Eagles Digest. But getting
into the severity of these injuries as it was reported by Jimmy Kemski on X saying that it is
fair at this point to doubt that Makai Lemon will start early in the season. He has missed half of
spring practices and half of training camp due to injury. And this is very concerning because
this is a, you know, this is Makai Lemon, a wide receiver, one that you picked up in the NFL draft,
you know, your first round wide receiver, and someone who you really thought could transform
this offense and fill in the shoes for AJ Brown, but he has not been able to practice pretty much
at all during training camp. I mean, this has been, you know, a lingering hamstring injury.
And that's been something that has derailed a lot of wide receivers in their career. Hamstring
injuries need to be taken seriously. So it's nice that the Eagles are not going in throwing
him out there and risking a very serious injury. But at the end of the day, if these hamstring
injuries are not, you know, are keep piling up, and they aren't getting better. And this is going
to be very concerning going into a year where you were really expecting a new age equals offense.
And if you don't have your first round wide receiver, that can be very disappointing at the
end of the day. So my initial reaction is that I really feel that this is going to be a very,
you know, big thing that we are going to look for, you know, in this season, because Makai Lemon
can't start out during this season, it's going to really just throw off a lot of things for this
Eagles offense, they're going to go out, they're going to have to go after different guys in this
offense to try and replicate the production that they are missing from Makai Lemon. But I also
think that there might be just, you know, a cause of concern, or there might not be a big cause of
concern, because the Eagles staff is trying to just do their best and not trying to injure the
round one wide receiver. And then a little bit more on the injury front, when it comes to another
Eagles wide receiver is that Devante Smith isn't practicing this past Monday, and he hasn't
practiced in nearly a week. He has been someone who has dealt with hamstring injuries, or has
dealt with a hamstring injury during this training camp as well. So both of the wide
receiver one and the projected wide receiver two in Smith and Makai Lemon are out with hamstring
injury. So not only are you missing your first round wide receiver, but you're also missing out
on your on your number one wide receiver who is taking over the mantle from AJ Brown. So right now
I know it's training camp. I know that there is, you know, a month left until the NFL season kicks
off and everything can change. They're still preseason and there's still a lot of time, but
not having your wide receivers out there to practice. That can be very concerning because
this Eagles offense is going to have to get some, you know, practice reps under their belt before
they go into week one against the Washington commanders. So how does this affect the Philadelphia
Eagles plans and how does this open the door for another wide receiver? Well, that has been the
talk of the town for Dontavian Wicks as he has had a significant boost during this training camp and
he has been able to show that the Eagles were right in acquiring him. He is poised for a significant
role in the Eagles offense this season per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. Multiple people within the Eagles
organization reportedly brought up Wicks impressive play without being asked and this is a
huge thing for this Eagles team because Dontavian Wicks has been someone who has just been showing
out during this Eagles offseason during training camp. He has been able to really showcase his
skills. He has gotten the gotten the chemistry down with Jalen Hurts, but he has also been able
to talked up by Lane Johnson, by Nick Sirianni, by Sean Mannion, by Saquon Barkley. A bunch of
guys are just mentioning him as a breakout candidate and Saquon Barkley also said that
he didn't believe he couldn't believe that the Eagles got him and feel that he is going to be a
very important player for this Eagles offense to flourish. So excited to see what Dontavian
Wicks can do this season because when we look at the wide receiver skill sets of all of these
wide receivers right now, you got to look at what Dontavian Wicks provides in comparison to
Makai Lemon, Devontae Smith, and Hollywood Brown. The number one thing that I'm seeing out of
Dontavian Wicks during training camp as well as during his time in Green Bay is that he has
created early separation and the one thing that the Eagles really need to improve on with their
wide receiver play is creating early separation and creating separation in in general. I mean
there has been you know a lot of you know controversy when it came to AJ Brown as he
wasn't able to create a lot of separation last year so if you're able to get someone in here
that can create early separation and give Jalen Hurts time to go and you know air the ball out
and try to get you know a really big play I think Dontavian Wicks is going to be that big time
playmaker for this Eagles offense and when we go over to all these wide receivers you got Devontae
Smith with his elite route running we already know that, Makai Lemon with his yards after
catch and his elite play versus zone coverage, then you got Hollywood Brown as your deep threat.
I mean all four of these guys I think are going to be impactful players in this Eagles offense and
when we look at how Sean Mannion can really just put all of these puzzle pieces together it is
going to be a tough you know you know tough climb for him to you know be able to be a first-year
play caller and take over you know a lot of new guys in this offense because Wicks, Lemon,
Hollywood Brown, they are guys that haven't played on the Eagles in their whole career
so it's going to be new guys on this Eagles offense and trying to marry the run concepts
as well as the passing concepts so I would hope that Devontae Smith is going to be able to
you know be back here in this Eagles offense because he is that alpha he is that guy who
the Eagles are going to rely on in that alpha role and but when we look at a guy like Wicks
he could probably steal the wide receiver two position from Makai Lemon and I think a lot of
people are thinking that when it comes to you know what the wide receiver jobs are going to be because
you know the best availability is availability at the end of the day so Devontae and Wicks
really might steal the wide receiver job or two job from Makai Lemon but you know when we look at
the Eagles and their playmakers and I know that maybe when you look at oh possibly Dontayvion
Wicks is going to be the wide receiver two I kind of take that as like I take that as a really good
compliment because Makai Lemon yes he has a lot to prove but he is only going into his rookie season
and if he shows any flashes of greatness during the season having a lot of you know guys who are
competing for wide receiver two jobs or even the wide receiver one with Devontae Smith that is
going to make everybody better at the end of the day so you got to really appreciate that Wicks is
getting his name out there as a big time playmaker because you don't want to have just a Devontae
Smith out there that's going to make plays and then a bunch of nobody so very encouraging that
Dontayvion Wicks is you know taking advantage of the opportunity that he is in but you also
got to think hey once Makai Lemon comes back once Devontae Smith comes back this Eagles offense is
going to be able to you know showcase what they can do and really try to turn the page from 2025.
Let me know down in the comments what you guys feel of these injuries right now with Makai Lemon
and Devontae Smith is it is it too uh you know too early to hit the panic button let me know
down in the comments and what your expectations are for this Eagles offense we're going to have
more coverage when it comes to the Philadelphia Eagles during training camp as well as preseason
so stay tuned for all of that and as always, GO BIRDS!
