A family and a group of travelers explore the Netherlands, discovering that Amsterdam and its surroundings are highly accessible and exciting for all ages. From high-adrenaline activities at the A'DAM Lookout to family-friendly glamping and navigating the city via free ferries, the experience challenges stereotypes and highlights the region's diverse attractions and practical travel options.
Most people think Amsterdam is all parties, red lights and canals.
But what happens when you bring your kids there?
There used to be a little wooden tower where they used to hang people.
We decided to find out.
Hey everyone, we're in Amsterdam searching for something different.
And we found it 300 feet above the city, swinging over the edge of a rooftop at ADAM Lookout.
But this trip isn't just about the adrenaline, we're on a mission to see if the Netherlands
offers family-friendly accommodation in locations that make it easy to explore with kids.
Is Amsterdam just for adults or are families missing something big?
Let's find out.
We stayed in a safari-style glamping tent.
We arrived late and had a bit of a panic setting up the bedding and warming up the space.
The park provided quilts and pillows and the setting was beautiful.
No private bathroom though, so be ready to use the shared facilities.
At night, the sky was crystal clear.
Let's give you a quick tour of the tent and the campsite.
They do give you a little goodie box which has, this one's empty now because we've used it,
but normally it has your washing liquid in there, a sponge, a bin bag and another wipe like a wash,
sorry, a cloth type thing, a lint-free cloth.
And then these are the beds.
We've got a double bed here with a side lamp over there which is quite cool.
We've got a little wardrobe type thing here and a little chest storage.
We've got two further storage here and you have got a fan for the summer when it gets very hot.
As I said, we had the heater, electric heater and we had the fridge, freezer too.
And then in this side, which is separated by cloth,
you have got a double bed and a single so you can sleep three children.
And that is it guys.
So thank you so much if you've stuck around and supported us up to this point.
If you're enjoying the adventures, don't forget to hit that subscribe button.
So guys, we might as well take you for a quick walk around my villa park in the Netherlands.
This one is called Fres Merin and we'll show you on the drone later what the park is like.
We are actually near, I think we're in the north and there's a lot of waterways along here
and yeah, loads of places to go boating.
So definitely worth stopping by if you're in the area and booking it.
This is Euro Camp Park by the way and we'll tell you how much we paid at the end.
So I think this is, oh, just so you know, if you do want to wash clothes,
you have got this here, wash.me.
Obviously you pay, it's in Dutch, but you've got a washer and a dryer here as well.
All digital, which is quite good.
Okay and this is the swimming pool, swimming baths.
Might as well go in and have a look.
Oh no, it's not the swimming baths, is it?
This is your wash area.
So in there are the toilets, female, and you have got a shower room as well.
Again, these are the female ones, but yeah, it's quite clean.
The staff come in here every day, throughout the day and clean the facilities.
So it smells very good and it smells very clean.
And then I think this is the swimming, yeah, that's the swimming pool.
Let me show you guys inside.
I don't know whether you've got to pay to go in, but this is it.
So you can see you've got a kid pool there and over the other side you've got an adult pool.
So there's not really much in terms of the toys in the pool area.
There isn't really much, but it's enough.
If you want to just go for a swim in the mornings, you can do very, very quickly.
And this area here is just like a park and they've got the little fountains here as well.
So if it's very hot, you can go in there and cool down.
You've got climbing frames, small climbing frames.
Really the park is for smaller kids, I would say, but there is an area here you've got.
That's the pool and you've got a little area here that you can sit down and chill.
And then you've got a little cafe over there.
You can buy food, a little coffee and just chill in the area whilst the kids play
in the fountains and cool down, which is quite cool.
If you're a parent, you'll love that because at least then you can just relax.
Also, another thing that I think you can do in this park is hire bikes.
Oh, they've got kid clubs.
So I think the club opens at 10 o'clock.
So that's quite cool.
So you've got a kid club there as well.
You've got a ping pong ball table there and you've got a big park over there,
which I think leads down to the waterways.
And I think that's really it in terms of like your public facilities
and stuff that you can do as a family.
That is pretty much it.
So you can see here, I don't know if I'm pronouncing it right,
but it's Fraser Moraine is the name.
And then you've got reception here, which is pretty cool.
All clean, yeah.
So I'm not sure if these are people's bikes or you've got or you can hire them.
But Holland is all about bikes and they're not tied up or anything, which is strange.
But I think and I don't see anything around here that says that you've got to pay,
but I assume you will.
OK, obviously, you all need to pay for it.
So you'd go into reception and have a chat with them
and let them know that you'd like to hire the bikes.
And that's it.
And then this is your recycle area.
And then you've got the park in there, which will probably lead to the waterways.
And then you've got the other area over here, which is all the other lodges.
So we stayed in a tent and that was our first time in a tent.
And quite honestly, it wasn't too bad.
You know, it was a bit chilly at the night.
I think it probably dropped to about maybe four, three or four in the night.
Last night in particular, it was a bit frosty.
So, yeah, it was I wouldn't say uncomfortable because we didn't really complain.
And it was it was good, you know, in the morning by the time the sun had come up,
it was warm.
The canvas warmed up and inside the tent was very warm.
So sorry.
There you go.
So, yeah, so we didn't have any problems at all in terms of the heat or the cold.
Did you guys were you guys OK in the tent?
Did you feel OK?
A little bit cold when we came in?
Yeah.
What about the night time in the night when you're sleeping?
Was it comfortable?
Yeah, warm.
OK, so another thing that they gave us was a heater, like an electric heater,
and it kept their place OK.
We had our own smaller heater as well that we plugged in.
You have got electric.
You have got lights.
It's more glamping than camping.
So you really haven't got much to worry about, even if it's your first time doing
even if it's your first time doing a camping holiday.
Look at it as glamping, pretty much.
It really isn't that.
Yeah, that hands on in terms of camping.
You really don't need to bring anything.
You've got your cutlery.
You've got the forks.
You've got your plate.
We're leaving in a minute.
We'll be leaving in a minute.
When we go, do we just leave the keys at the reception or just leave it on the table there?
No, you leave the key on the reception.
Right.
This way.
Yeah, brilliant.
OK, thank you very much.
Bye.
Thanks.
And that is it.
That is the park.
You know, it's very nice.
It's very clean.
It's very child friendly, family friendly.
And there's loads to do around here.
Loads to do around here, especially if you're into boating.
There's loads and loads of water.
And yeah, you know, we've thoroughly enjoyed it.
We stayed two nights and for the two nights, we paid £77.
So you can see very cost effective too.
As I said, that's for the tent.
And yeah, I think for the lodges, we could have done the Comfort XL and that would have
been £124, which isn't that much different.
But for us, we'd never done camping before.
We want to give it a try.
Really wanted to see if we're going to carry on doing camping and if it's for us.
And that is a good way of getting in and seeing if camping is for you.
So that is it, guys.
We're going to leave you now and we'll see you at our next destination.
Oh, and by the way, you have got a fridge, which is what Ava just bought to me.
Her bottle, which is frozen.
You've got a fridge freezer in there, which is brilliant.
I might as well actually show you inside the tent.
Chris is just like packing the car up.
I think they want us out now.
I know.
My girl just stopped asking when we're going.
Yeah, I know, because I can't clean it.
Yeah.
OK, so apologies for the mess.
But coming into the tent, you have got a barbecue, which is pretty new.
This is it.
Yes.
And you've got a kind of like a kitchen unit with a falling hob.
They give you a kettle.
So in here, you've got coffee, little coffee pots under there, got a frying pan.
You've got.
After checking out our campsite, we drove 1.5 hours to Amsterdam
and made a dam tower our first stop.
After taking our photos at the entrance, we headed into the lift.
And that was like a spaceship.
When you look up and it started, that's when the adventure began.
We started off with a virtual rollercoaster ride inside
a wild experience the whole family loved
before heading to the rooftop for the famous over-the-edge swing.
Yeah, definitely.
We would.
Yeah, we're definitely going.
We're all moved on again.
The girls feel a bit sick, but I think we can do just a lot of stuff.
Yeah, probably tiredness as well.
Yeah.
Because we've been up very early.
We're really good.
It's our first thing.
Yeah.
We're trying and it's really good.
Yeah.
Oh, I gave you the tickets, right?
Yeah.
Right, so where's to the next?
Is it around there?
Oh, no.
After leaving the virtual rollercoaster, we made our way to the swing.
And that's where you saw the whole city whilst swinging.
Before we headed there, though, we looked outside the window.
And oh, my words, the view was stunning.
You could see Amsterdam River out the window.
And you can see the whole city from the space.
It was just the most amazing view that we have seen of Amsterdam ever.
And it was sunsetting as well.
So that was just like the perfect moment to see that.
So here we were, the moment of truth.
Honestly, whilst looking at the swing, there was no fear there at all.
The moment the fear kicked in was when you were just being elevated up above the city.
And then you started to swing.
Quite honestly, there is no other feeling like it.
You are swinging over the city.
And as you go, you're just seeing the views and the land,
the building disappears from beyond your feet.
And it's as if you're just like elevated in the air, which you are.
And you're just swinging through the air above the city.
It's the most amazing experience.
Elaine, look out.
This is cold.
Used to be a little wooden tower where they used to hang people.
I did not know that.
You were just hanging.
I told her to look out.
Oh, it was amazing.
It was amazing.
What would you give it out of 10?
10.
Definitely 10.
10.
Yeah.
Today, you've learned a bit of history about...
People getting hanged.
So you've learned a bit of history about this tower in Amsterdam.
And well, you've seen some stuff that you can do here as a family.
And I think it's quite cool.
Yeah.
As a family getting about and doing things.
I don't think generally people put family activities to doing stuff in Amsterdam, right?
Yeah, definitely.
Yeah, you don't really think family when you think Amsterdam.
It used to be the cannabis shops.
Yeah.
Smoking on a day.
Yeah, true.
Obviously, it's got so much more than that.
Yeah.
And also the red light district.
Yes, of course.
That was something we normally talk about.
No.
It's still happening, but there's so much more to do for families and people who are not interested
in that stuff.
One of those things to do for families is this.
So the family activity that you can come and do is the swing,
hanging over the edge.
You can see those guys they're doing just behind me, literally swinging over the edge.
And that's it.
And if you want to get it, it's very accessible.
You can come to Central Station and get a free boat across.
And it takes you across to a dam.
Yeah.
Literally outside.
Yeah.
And from there, there's loads of restaurants and bars around there.
I've always wondered why they did a free boat.
Is it just for the people?
It's subsidized by the government.
Okay, by the king?
I don't know.
By the way, tomorrow is King's Day and we're going to miss it.
So listen, we're going to show you as much footage as we can.
Obviously, going forward tomorrow, we've got a fun packed day
for the family, for us and activities for you guys to do.
Yeah.
And yeah, just stay tuned and don't forget to hit that subscribe button.
Let us know what you're thinking and how you feel these activities went.
And yeah, would you ever visit Amsterdam for a family activity?
100%.
I know you would.
Anyway, let's have a walk around to the sunset.
As our day came to an end at ADAM, we looked over to Amsterdam and saw
that we could take a free ferry over the river.
So that's exactly what we decided to do.
Before doing that, we took some quick photos
because this is our first time on the actual tower.
And so with the view being what it was behind us,
there was no way we were going to leave here without taking some photos.
Don't forget, if you do want to see those photos,
you can check out our Instagram and our TikTok.
And then there you go.
You can see all of your photos and you can pick three for 25 pounds.
And that's it, guys.
So we are concluding our trip at ADAM now.
We're going to probably take you guys over on the free ferry across to the dam.
Yeah, I think that's what it's called.
It is the dam, right?
Amstel.
I think it's Amstel.
No, it's the dam, you know what I'm saying?
The dam, yeah.
We'll go up to the dam.
So yeah, brilliant.
Next step is?
Um, well, we're going to be here for a little while.
We're coming for a day.
For today.
Oh, no, no, for today.
It's just food.
We need food.
We're travelling all day.
What's the next step?
Food isn't the next step.
We're starving.
But we don't know about getting food in central.
We just want something burger-y.
So the ferry is like, you see that?
Yeah, that, yeah.
And then boom, in five minutes you are there.
Cool.
Whatever you want to do.
Cool.
First time?
No, no, no.
No, we've come here before.
Yeah, but the kids first time.
Yeah.
Where's good Chinese?
Wow.
Or the name, then I can find it on Google.
If you know one.
About Chinese in Amsterdam, I have.
No idea.
Very hard to find.
Okay.
I know Indonesian food or things like this, but not here.
Oh, okay.
It's probably out of town more, better.
To be honest, never speak it loud in front of Dutch people.
You know that, right?
No.
What's the traditional meal here, then?
Well, frikandels.
Some kind of always crunchy.
Okay.
Cheese?
No, not really.
Cheese is good, to be honest.
Steaks also, but all these things, they are trying to prove that they have some kind of,
you know, their own food.
Right.
I will have to put it to the test, I think.
Oh, don't.
You should watch our YouTube channel.
Hmm?
You should watch our YouTube channel.
You watch YouTube?
Oh, sometimes.
Yeah, you should watch our videos.
We travel around the world.
We are doing the streets.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I see.
Yeah, we travel around and meet people.
Then you all need to send me a link.
Definitely.
Definitely, yeah.
It's your video, it's good.
So overall, yeah, I wouldn't eat anything here, like tasty ones.
Then steaks.
Yeah.
Cheese.
Okay, cheese, yeah.
They are good.
And to be honest, that's all.
And the funny thing is, but that can make that...
Oh, yeah.
Come, guys.
Nearly got snatched back.
So the thing is that...
Other way.
Bikes and everything.
Over there, out of the way, so the bikes can come on.
The best views are always over there.
Yeah.
So this ferry is free.
If you want to go from one side of Amsterdam to the other, it's totally free.
It gets very busy.
And this one's going to Central Station.
You can see so much people use this.
And I think they use it for daily commute as well.
So it's worth, even if you are just visiting Amsterdam, just jump on the ferry
and go over to Central and see what's there, because it's worth it.
Even if, you know, you don't have a purpose for it, really.
It's good.
It's quick.
No, you haven't.
What's your name?
Ardun.
Have you got a car?
Sorry for my mother.
No worries.
Nice to meet you.
Lane.
Chris.
You are from Gael?
From Mali.
He looks Dutch now.
He's tall.
Thirteen.
Thirteen years old.
Woah.
And he's as tall as you.
You can be Shaquille O'Neal.
I'm Shaquille O'Neal.
A bear looking.
Do we have to come off?
Huh?
Do we have to come off?
The sale you're going to do definitely.
Thank you.
Take care.
Bye bye.
What do you think?
You've got to.
You don't get nothing cheap over here.
Give me a stat.
I know.
Like you said.
We need to get a gang on one of those.
Huh?
You didn't see the car going on?
I know.
Yeah.
You remember.
Yeah.
That's crazy.
They're proper cars.
We need to get a gang on one of those.
They're proper cars.
We need to go back over now.
Because we're not really going to.
I think you can drive them at Yonge Agent I think.
I wish I could.
Ooh.
Another one.
It's crazy the stuff that go on this thing.
We've got more cars.
Um.
You definitely don't want to go for a walk and come back no?
Huh?
Hey Vanessa.
Vanessa.
Come.
I'm waiting till they've all come back.
Yeah.
Come on then.
Have we got time?
I don't know what time it is.
What time did we leave?
9.22 did you say?
Yeah.
Is it 9?
No.
Go back.
It's 8.
No, no, no.
It's 8.57 now.
Oh yeah.
We've got 9 something.
Yeah.
21 something.
Because everyone's hungry.
I'm hungry.
Everybody's hungry.
Alright.
Let's go.
It's 21 something.
Alright then.
We're going to Central.
You know it's one of those.
Huh?
Oh.
Food Murray.
Not rubbish.
Right.
Let's see what's in.
What's in Central.
It's a proper like smaller place where you can get proper food.
Not manufactured.
We're looking here though.
Yeah.
Let's give a bit.
I don't know.
Let's have a look.
I don't know what it's going to be.
But we can certainly have a look.
Food?
Yeah.
I wouldn't get that then.
What place is it?
I wouldn't get paid to.
I would pay.
Oh, to go to that place?
No.
No way.
And you know what as well.
It's very flat.
It's a novelty.
It's very flat.
Yeah.
Why?
What's going on with the breakfast in there?
Well I suppose that's Amsterdam's right innit?
Oh yeah I guess.
It's sort of like urban culture.
Oops sorry.
What were you saying about in here then?
Oh just plants.
So Central.
There's crabs in there.
I feel like crab meat though.
Yeah.
But do I want it for dinner?
I don't know about from here though.
Shall we get some chips from there though?
Wow this place is massive.
Shall we?
You've got upstairs as well.
Do you want to see how much chips he's had?
Even if it's just for now.
In here is massive guys.
I do.
Look.
At that.
We're not going to walk through here today.
It is going to be way way too busy.
Yeah my place is going to be ripped.
I can already see it.
I don't know what it's going to be.
The first place you come in here and see.
It's going to be ripped.
Yeah I know.
I can imagine.
The price is in here.
I don't know.
Another thing.
We used to stay in a hotel called the Botel.
And I don't know if it's still here.
I knew it.
I thought Botel was 375 but it's small.
Oh right.
I knew it.
Yeah you need to find a proper.
Shall we walk down a little bit and come back?
Yeah.
And then get on the next one.
You need to find a proper like takeaway thing.
Yeah.
That's what you need.
The air is going to be all scamp.
1.50.
It's got one 375.
It's a small little trade.
There's literally a flat amount of chips in it.
Nah yeah we'll go and find somewhere else.
I'll tell you where to get two each if we're not enough.
Yeah.
No I'm not walking all the way down.
We're just going to.
I think you can walk down and turn next and come back out.
Alright.
There's one in the.
Oh do they think we're in the place?
Right.
To eat any munchies or.
Yeah maybe yeah that's what I was thinking.
What, what kind of shops have they got here?
None it doesn't look like.
No yeah there must be a supermarket.
Oh yeah here.
Yeah there will be.
Yeah yeah yeah.
It's going to be a weapon.
do you think for the morning or whatever i'm just seeing if there's anything in there for now
because just uh because these lot seem like they're hungry or not seen they are definitely hungry
but it might be ripped i don't know let's see
there are a lot of people in here
what i need is like a bag of crisps or something or or biscuits or biscuits
these are things look how heavy it is feel it really good yeah
but what do you guys want we hop on the free ferry across the amsterdam river
into central it was buzzing and definitely worth a sensory overload for the kids in a good way
so when do you stop so it's amsterdam for grown-ups or is it a hidden gems
