DoctorOz: Women Who Look Half Their Age: What They Do, Revealed! | S11 | Ep 36 | Full Episode

At Oz Skincare Investigation, we go undercover. This one says it works in a week. And what we found will shock you. You don't know what you're putting on your face. Plus, age-defying secrets. What's her age? 27. 32. 34. On how these women look half their age. You ready for age? Nah. Oh! Whoa! Coming up next. You must see. It's never been done before. Because for the first time ever, we're reviewing the latest cutting-edge science behind ageless skin. Everyone in my audience is holding a mirror. Probably looking at it, hopefully, right? Because we're going to take a closer look at what your skin really needs so you can face anything. And we've got a big investigation into one of the most powerful and common skincare ingredients that you may be using right now. And we have a personalized quiz to help target the number one wrinkle worry. You interested in that? Yes. All right, so we're going to kick things off with a question that will wow you. How old do you think these women are? Look at these pictures. All right, look carefully. These women, I'm telling you right now, look half their age. And for the first time, they're sharing their secrets. My go-to tester or not, I hit the streets to see if you could guess the real age of these women. Take a look at these three amazing women. Now let's see if these New Yorkers can guess their age. First up, I have Leslie here. What's her age? I would say 35. Probably her late 30s, I'd say. Maybe like 27. OK, so you ready for age? OK. Nuh-uh. What does she use? Wow. Can you guess Sherlene's age? 35. 32. I'd say 30. About 34. Whoa. She looks really good. Wow. I have Sandra here. Can you guess her age? I'd say 49. Maybe she's like 40? 45. Oh, shoot. Nuh-uh. I'm like, don't you come. I know, I know. Oh, my God. Jesus. It's 100% Photoshopped. There's no way. No, no. You're lying. I'm not lying. Is she using the same stuff as them? Yes, girl. She's using the same stuff as Leslie. Dr. Oz, it's official. These women have it going on. I can't wait to find out what their secrets are. Can you share them, please? I'm going to preempt these women. I'm going to tell you right now, they haven't had any plastic surgery. And they didn't just get lucky or be born with perfect genes. So the question is, how did they crack the code to define their age? Let's hear it from them. Bring out Sandra. Now, the average age people guess Sandra was 49. They thought you were 49, Sandra. Tell everybody, look out that way. Tell the whole audience, how old are you really? I am 75 years young. Oh, my goodness. Come on over. They're in shock disbelief. And I'm looking at you real closely. And I got to say, you don't look anything close to 75. That's remarkable. So what's your secret? How do you do it? You have this salt water face tool or tradition? Well, I believe cleansing is everything. So what I used to do since I'm 18 years old is cleanse my skin so it could breathe and shine through. So you take a tablespoon of Himalayan salt. Put it in warm water. Mix it thoroughly. Then you take a cloth. You do this every day in the morning? Yes. It actually makes you feel warm and soothing and fuzzy. Just like that. I feel very cuddly now. I'm so proud of you, Sandra. I really am. Congratulations. Thank you. All right. Now it's time to reveal the next guest who looks half her age. It's Jirlene. Jirlene, come on out. Now, most people think Jirlene is 34 years old. I got to say, looking from here, I think they're right. Please tell everybody, how old are you really? Dr. Oz, I am 51 years old. Come on over here and tell me the secret. How do you do that? That is remarkable. Thank you. The camera's not lying. No. You look 34. That's the right age. I would have guessed that. Thank you. So how do you do it? So one thing that I do is very, very important to me is hydration. Water, water, water. You don't get bored of water? No, I don't get bored, but some people may. So if you get bored with water, you can always infuse your water with fruit. Toast? To your 34. Well, 51. I'll raise you to 51. Okay. Jirlene, thank you very much. Thank you. All right, next up, we got one more guest who looks half her age. It's Leslie. Come on out, Leslie. Now, most people thought Leslie was 37 years old. So Leslie, if you don't mind surprising us all, how old are you really? I'm 51. Leslie, come over here. Thank you. I got to say, you're a redhead, I guess, right? Yes. No, redheads tend to have fragile skin. So what's your skincare routine? How do you pull that off? So, Dr. Oz, my skincare is all about SPF. It's so important. My grandmother used it. She lived to be 98. She looked fantastic. Oh, my goodness. Thank you, Leslie. All right, let me bring in a skincare scientist here on behalf of our trust and sponsorship partner, Olay, who can weigh in on Leslie's skincare ritual. Dr. Frauke Neuser is joining us. I ask you all the hard questions. Here's the thing. People know SPF can protect their skin, but you guys don't use it. Why not? What does the science say about the difference that SPF can make? So, according to scientists and many, many years of studies, around 80% of visible skin aging is caused by UV damage. Four-fifths. Now, in our own research, we found that women who protect their skin from the sun and wear SPF regularly look the youngest compared to others who don't. Now, you brought me a sample of some twins. Right. We've done lots of research with identical twin sisters, and I've brought one amazing pair of images here with me. Come back up here. Let's take a look. And narrate this. You can be the weatherman today. All right. So, these ladies are in their early, mid-50s. And actually, maybe let me start over here. So, this is the twin sister who thought, you know what? I don't need SPF. Never really used SPF. No, she doesn't. You know, she looks good, but look at the skin, at the kind of the pigmentation. Look at the pores, the texture. It's much coarser than you maybe want at this age. And it's just, you know, it's uneven. She doesn't have the clarity, especially if you compare her to her sister. Again, identical genes, identical skin type. Look at her. If you look at her, I noticed a couple of things. Just as a layman, the wrinkles aren't quite as deep. The texture of the skin is smoother. The pores aren't as visible. Right. Overall, it's a much more even picture. If you look at the pigmentation around here, crow's feet around the eyes are always a sign. You know, the forehead, which is where you get a lot of the UV exposure. It's just overall, you know, the skin. It's your choice. You want to be a lady on the right or the lady on the left. It's your choice. That's how much power you have over your destiny. So when you go to your high school reunion and you look like this or like this, take credit, be proud. But do things today to earn that. So a lot of us use sunscreens, but some people complain that they're greasy. So get past the SPF skeptics for me. Okay. Well, you know, there are some great products out there. The one I recommend is the Olay Regenerist Whip SPF 25. It absorbs really quickly into skin, delivering that hydration, peptides, vitamin B3, but at the same time, leaving that belly there like a finish. For all of the skeptics out there who say, you know, sunscreens are too greasy, SPFs leave a white residue, this one is the one for you. This is the one you want to try. So since this whole hour is dedicated to finding the right products for your needs, I want Frauke to show us the scientific tool that we can all use to customize our routine right now. Right. So it's called the Olay Skin Advisor. It is a great way for you to get personalized advice for your skin and for your skincare routine. So you just go online with your device or your computer. You go to the Olay website, and this is what the start screen looks like. It starts with you uploading a picture or a selfie. And there are some instructions here how to best do that. Ideally, you don't want to wear makeup. Take off your glasses. Put the hair out of your face. Neutral face expression. You take the picture. Oh, it's your picture. This is a picture I took before the show, before I put on a little bit of makeup. So then you upload the picture. There's also a brief questionnaire because it's really important for the tool to understand your skin needs, concerns. You know, what's your skin type? What do you do today? What types of products do you love? What works for you? And then this proprietary artificial intelligence algorithm will analyze your skin. And it will give you a couple of different things to learn about your skin. First of all, it can tell your visible skin age. All right, I'm 49. 49 is my skin age. That's good. It will also show you what are maybe some of the areas of concern that you maybe should pay a little more attention to. And then there's another smart piece of technology integrated that will make some personalized recommendations. There's a top recommendation. If you only ever use one product, this is the right one for you. Or, you know, and then if you want a full routine, here are the different steps. It's so easy. It's super personalized. It's a great tool. For those of you who scoff at artificial intelligence and think it will never come in handy, this is a great example of how it can really change. You have a skin coach in your pocket. Use it. Absolutely. Nicely done. All right, up next, a big investigation into a popular skin care ingredient that everyone's buzzing about. What you need to know before buying retinol is what you're buying actually real. Stay tuned. Very nice stuff. Diet Soda Health Alert. I have at least 25 cans a day. It may save us some calories. I only drink my diet soda. But is it slowly killing us? New research says that just two glasses of diet sodas may increase your risk to death by 25%. Pretty scary. Plus, Rachel Ray serves up some Oz-approved homemade meals. This is the food of your people. All new Oz. That's coming up on Monday. Big investigation into one of the most popular skin care ingredients on the market, retinol. Everyone's been buzzing about this key ingredient that's been shown to help reduce wrinkles, acne, and dark spots. But could you be getting scammed or even hurt by the retinol that you're using? We sent our own correspondent, Tia Brown, on an undercover shopping investigation to find out what's really in your everyday retinol product. Retinol is one of the best ingredients to improve your skin's appearance. It boosts collagen production, diminishes wrinkles, even decreases dark spots. But how do you know if you're buying the right product? There's been an explosion of over-the-counter products with retinol. Serums, toners, oils, creams, and at so many price points. These prices are all over the place. You have some for $197, one for $180. Oh, my God, this one is $355. Some for $5. You just don't know what to pick. So I went undercover to a few New York City stores to see what I could learn. The big questions I'm wondering are, is what you're paying for worth it? And just how much retinol is in these products? There's so many products. I wonder if you could be getting too much retinol and maybe causing irritation, redness, puffiness, peeling. You just don't know. Do we know, like, about skin irritation? Have people been saying anything about these? No. Thank you. Have a great day. This product was made in China. I wonder what the regulations of retinol are there. This one says it works in a week. Have you tried any of these? No. Okay. I have not. Thank you. Free tea? Yes, please. Wow, this cream is expensive. I wonder if it works as good as the prescription products. After a day of shopping, I still don't have the answers I was looking for. So, to find out more about what's in the retinol products I bought, I sent them to Joe and his team at Olay's lab to have them analyzed. Retinoids or vitamin A are very tricky to formulate. In fact, it might not be stable in some of the products that you're buying. And what they found will shock you. Tia Brown joins me now. The first thing we uncovered about retinol products is you may not know how much retinol you're actually getting. Tia looked at a variety of products. How much retinol are people really getting in the products you checked? You know, it's really hard to tell. This is the issue. Retinol for skin care is not regulated by the FDA. Oh, my goodness. Right. It is surprising, right, because you're putting it on your skin. We know how porous it is. So, we tested about seven products, and we found out that four of those seven products had less retinol than was stated on the actual labels. More than half. That's a big deal. So, you don't know how much retinol you're getting. And here's the issue. When retinol is mixed with other ingredients, a lot of times it loses its potency and its consistency, so it's not stable. So, you just never know. So, it's not that they're purposely cheating you, but they're mixing the chemicals not knowing that, or maybe they do, but they're not careful. They're not doing their due diligence, right? We expect a truthfulness in advertisement, right? Even if it's not regulated. If you say 5%, I'm paying for 5%. I want 5%. So, the duty really does fall on the manufacturer. Second big thing Tia found, and she uncovered this is important, that the retinol you're buying may not be penetrating your skin. I didn't even think that was possible. I know. So, here's the thing. We tested, again, seven products, but this time facial products that were over $50, which is a pretty good investment for skin care, correct? Of course. So, we tested seven. Four of those had less than 30% of actually getting into the skin. Again, you don't know what you're purchasing. You don't know what you're working, and it's a huge investment. On top of that, your skin isn't reaping the benefits. There's no way for us to tell how effective it is on your skin. All right. In some cases, retinol can cause bad burns and skin irritation. Here's some photos of what that might look like. Now, Linda joins us now. She's been a guest on the show. She said she was burned by a bad retinol cream. She started using it about six months ago. How long until you started seeing the kind of blemishes we just saw there? Your skin reacted. It was almost immediate. Like, the whole thing did not go well. I had a lot of burning, redness, flaking. And I have sensitive skin to begin with, so I'm sensitive to almost every side effect. How did it affect you emotionally when all of a sudden something you did to make yourself continue to look beautiful turned you into a big red blotch? I was really embarrassed. Like, I couldn't leave. I didn't want to go out. It was just really hard to face the world because I thought—well, I was worried about what other people thought, and I also thought it looked like an infection. I just—I didn't want to go through that. Why bother? And here's the thing. You're trying to do the right thing. And I want people to do the right thing because retinols, when used correctly, can be fantastic and probably invaluable in many instances. So, coming up, we know retinol is one of the most effective skincare ingredients out there. What you need to know about finding the right retinol for you. Stay with us. How you doing? Good. Thank you for joining us. We're back talking about the skin ingredient retinol and how it can transform your face. Now, retinol comes with lots of questions. Like, how much retinol do you need? Right? Or when should you use it? How much is too much? Right? Should your face be red? I got that question. We're back with Linda who doesn't want to give up on retinol. She has some other questions. For example, how do you pick the right one? To help answer all these questions, Dr. Broca-Neuser is joining us to arm you with all the information that will come in handy. So, not all retinols are the same. We've established that. Why is this a range of retinol products on the market? Well, so, here's the deal. So, retinol as an ingredient is actually incredibly difficult to formulate. So, to start off with, retinols are not very stable. What does it mean? They don't like heat. They don't like UV. They don't like oxygen because it makes them start to degrade and be less potent. So, how you formulate your product, how you produce it, even how you get it properly into your jar. And there's a lot of products in the market that are not very stable. Which is why you might not be getting the results that you were hoping and, you know, expecting. Part of the reason I wanted to hear is you actually formulate retinol in your lab. So, explain to us how you think about the process. When you actually make the stuff that you give to your customers, what do you look for? Okay. Back to the basics, right? So, we get retinol vitamin A. It's an oil-soluble vitamin. So, if we are creating, once we're creating a product, we really need first, we need some sort of oil or lipid to dissolve and disperse our retinol in. So that it's evenly in the whole product and, you know, and to keep it really stable. So, I brought two very different oils here with me. Let's see what happens when I try to put my retinol blend into these oils. Please do. So, this is the retinol blend that we use in our Olay Retinol 24 formulations. Just a few droplets in here. And then, of course, what we would do, we would mix this together. And what we're really expecting to see is one even solution. All the retinol is dissolved in my oil. But that's not really what's happening. It's a lava lamp. I mean, look at this. Yeah, it's like oil in water, literally. It's looking like that. But it's both oils. It's just not the right oil that I've chosen here. So, what should it look like when you add retinol to the right kind of fat for the right kind of result? So, let's maybe look at this second oil blend we have here. That's the one that we use in Retinol 24. Again, let's do the same thing. Let's just add a couple of drops here into the oil. And again, let's shake it up. Let's see what happens. Ah, much better. That's what you want to see, a clear solution. The retinol is completely dissolved in the oil. So, you want this mixed in nicely. This one is not dissolving at all. So, what makes the Olay Retinol 24 different from other retinols on the market? All right. So, we already talked about finding that optimum oil blend, which might be screening hundreds of different oils. But then, what do you do with that? So, we are trying to basically think about it as we're trying to hide the retinol on the inside of the product so that it is stable. And protected. So, once we have the oil, what we're going to do is create what we call an oil and water emulsion. With lots and lots of little oil droplets on the inside of the formula surrounded by the water phase and other protective ingredients. So, Linda, we gave you the Olay Retinol 24. You tried it for a couple of days. Thoughts on it? So much better. No big blotchy rash? No. My skin was really smooth and bright every morning. I was so excited to wake up in the morning. I didn't have any sensitivity, no redness. It was just really, really nice. And plus, I felt really moisturized. It was really pretty. So, what do you make of our results? Expected? Yes. Not surprising. Really not surprising. You know, with this product, you get 24-hour hydration, but you also get 24-hour potency. You wake up with that smoother, brighter skin. And that's very much what we heard from women in our clinical studies and our research. The vast majority did not experience any irritation. They can use it every day, which means they're going to start seeing the results. So, you say there's a bunch of ways we can do this. Olay's Microsculpting Cream can also play a role in this. Just to be clear, so who uses this? Right. And what are the other options if you don't want to have it all mixed together for us? Right. The convenience is great. Right. I mean, this is, you know, if you're kind of a one-step nighttime regimen person, you just want to moisturize but have all the benefits of retinol, this is a one-step process. Great. But you could also use the serum and then maybe on top a different moisturizer, like my favorite, the Olay Regenerous Microsculpting Cream. For flexibility. So, you're going to have convenience? This is up to you. We're not telling you what you have to do. We're just creating fabulous products, and how you use them is really down to your preference. So, no matter which you choose, how do you apply retinol correctly? Yeah. So, there's a couple of things. So, A, you know, we heard that retinols can be, you know, sensitive to UV, so that's why it's usually best to use them at night. And then the other thing is, I mean, you have to stick with that for a little while, right? I mean, results, like 28 days is a really good period, you know, four weeks, which is not super long, and that's when you really start seeing more and more benefits. You feel safe now? Yes. All right. Up next, thank you, Franka, the most delicate area of skin that may be giving away your real age. Find out what it is when we come back. Look at that one. Yes. Not all skin is created equal, which is why the delicate skin around your eyes may need a little bit extra TLC. It's thinner with fewer oil glands, more sensitive, prone to issues like puffiness, discoloration, wrinkles. Here are some pictures of my audience members. Their eyes are looking right at us. Whose eyes are these? Because you get to be my guest of the day. Who is it? Oh, oh, I got the victim right here. How are you? What's your name? How are you? I'm Erica. You do have very pretty eyes, Erica. Oh, thank you. Thank you. So what do you think about your eyes? Are they just the way you want them? Well, I have on concealer right now. But in the morning, I'm, like, really dark around the eyes. So, you know, just due to stress and just due to just life. So I just put, like, a little something on. So I'm trying to get rid of that. Do you like taking tests? Yes. You all like taking tests? Yeah. This test you like. Come on down. I'm going to give you a little quiz, everybody. We've created with our partner, Olay, to help determine your skincare product for the eyes. It's got to be customized. Olay scientist Shannon Weitz is here to walk us through it. Everyone follow along. Keep track of your answers. Super simple. Three questions. And then Shannon's going to explain what it means. OK. You got this, Shannon? Got it. Question number one. Which best describes the way your eyes look? Think about this in your mind now. All right? So A, crepey and dry. B, not sure. Need all kinds of help. My eyes look older than my face. C, dark circles. I haven't slept in days. One of those letters applies to me. But we'll get to that later. Question two. What do you tend to do to combat your under eye concerns? Your eye concerns in general. So A, cucumbers and cold spoons. B, eye masks make up the works. C, try and get more sleep. Keeping track here? Yes. All right. Last question. What kind of benefit do you think you want from an eye product? So A is one that is moisturizing and cooling. B, one that does double duty. So it conceals and corrects. C, one that makes me look wide awake and fades my dark circles. All right. Eric, can you tie up your answers? Yes. Just walk down here. So no matter what you all answer, there's a solution for you. That's the real essence of today's segment. You should appreciate that if you're wise about what your problems are, you can customize the perfect solution for it. So who out there answered mostly A's? Hands up. Mostly A's? All right. So for A's, they have dry skin under their eyes. So if you said A, mostly A's, what do you have for us? Yeah. So if you answered A, you're looking for a deep hydrating eye gel. Where are my A's again? I got solutions for you. Oh, there's an A right here. So close. More A's? Geez. Olay's deep hydrating eye gel is actually a hyaluronic acid formula that's going to hydrate that dry skin around the eyes for a more refreshed look. All right. How many B's out there? Put your hands up for your B's. Oh, there are a lot of B's. Okay. All right. So for B's, they have puffy and wrinkly eyes. Here, you do this. Now, you walk around and bother them. All right. Very good. Keep Erica busy. All right. So if you were B's, you're going to look for a 3-in-1. So I really like the Olay Ultimate Eye Perfecting Cream. So it actually has some titanium dioxide in there to give it kind of a touch of concealer, but it won't bleed or smear, and it blends with every skin tone, which is huge. The other thing that it has is aminopeptides. So those are going to help build your skin from the inside, so that way you can see visibly firmer skin on the outside. All right. And finally, C's, which I've been told... Yeah. You feel like a C? I feel like a C. All right. Every day. For the C's, they seem to have dark circles. What causes the dark circles? So it is mostly genetics, but they can be exacerbated by your lifestyle. And what do you have for us as a solution? All right. So you want something that has vitamin C and caffeine that's going to really improve and brighten that eye. I personally like the Olay Brightening Eye Cream for dark circles. But what's actually in the cream that makes it work the way it's supposed to? This is the fun part. So we're going to come over here. So what I have here is a little bit of a deconstruction of the product. Some of the key components of the Olay Eye Brightening Cream. So what you'll notice is that you can see how the ingredients here work together to kind of reflect the light away from the eyes. We've really worked to kind of enhance and make this a very unique blend so that it reflects light for everyone, for any skin tone, and really works to really brighten that eye area. How do you actually apply it? All right. Let's work on that. So what you want to do is you can use this product in the morning and the evening on cleansed skin. And you want to take a little bit of the product, and you want to make sure you're dabbing it all around the eye. So you want to use it under the eye, the outer corners of the eye, and the eyelid. And then you'll want to then kind of really make sure it's worked into the skin and fully absorbed. How long until Erica sees the results? So what you're going to actually notice an improvement in the skin feel right away, so after the first use. And what's even more amazing is after four weeks, you're going to see that physical reduction in the dark circles. Great. That's what we're all looking for. Grab it out of her hand quickly. Take it from her before she changes her mind. All right. The transformations you have to see to believe with the product picks you can afford. Take a look at what's taking place backstage right now. We'll be right back with more. That was a sneak peek at what's been going on backstage. Now, if you're tired and stressed out like so many of us are, you've got the 10-minute transformations you have to see to believe. Take a look and see if these hardworking women sound like you. Hi. My name is Corinne Topolski. I've been a nurse for 10 years. I work in the surgical ICU, and most importantly, I work night shift. Night shift is just a whole different environment. I pretty much live off of coffee, caffeine, tea, just sheer adrenaline some days trying to get through. She's always there for all of the other staff members on night shift, and she's always doing it with a positive attitude and a smile. Last October, my mom found her breast cancer had come back. We had her home, and I helped my dad take care of my mom, handled her medications, doctor's visits, just pretty much nursed 24 hours a day. If it wasn't, you know, at work, it was at home. It was a very, very emotional struggle year to try and separate home and work and still, you know, make a living and provide for my family. It's worth it. Even my worst days, I love what I do. I get to take care of patients and just use my knowledge and my experience, you know, to really try to help them. Hi. I'm Lori. I'm a nurse. I've been a nurse for about 11 years now. I'm a single parent of four children, so my time is spread very thin. On the days when I work, I get up between 4.30 and 5 o'clock in the morning. My feet hit the floor. I'm running, trying to get the kids ready, get them out the door, get them to daycare, and make it to my shift on time. And then it's 12, 13, 14 hours before I get home again. This past year, I started in school. I've been studying to become a family nurse practitioner. That has made our schedule even more difficult, juggling trying to make sure that my children all make their appointments. So it's just a challenge. Consequently, I'm the last on the list. I take care of my children. I make sure that I do my work. I get to school on time. But I would like to take care of myself a little bit better. As a surgeon, I know firsthand the integral role of Corinne and Lori play in our health care system. I know they deserve to be rewarded. So beauty consultant Danielle Gray gave Corinne and Lori backstage makeovers just minutes before they opened. They're coming out here. You're going to see it right now. We are dying. I'm dying. I'm going to have to see it, but I'm still dying. You were there. I want to see it again. All right, Corinne, you're up first. Oh, the makeup got her smiling. And now Lori, it's your turn. Very polished. Very elegant. So, Corinne, what's been the most surprising thing about this makeup? I saw you before. By the way, thank you both for all your work in the hospital. There's no medical system like a nurse's. What's the most surprising thing for you? Really just how quick she transformed me from looking tired and exhausted and to looking like this. You have lives to save. And Lori, why is the makeover so important for you? Well, having a routine that I can do in the morning, that's just for me, will help me to have the confidence to keep going and doing what I'm doing. Can we show the rest of the country exactly how Danielle did this? Yes. Come on over. Danielle did all your magic backstage, so we've got to walk us through the process of what you did so everyone at home can take advantage of your wisdom. Yes. So, of course, your makeup routine starts with your skincare routine. We prep the ladies with the Olay Regenerous Microsculpting Cream. One of my favorites. It's a great dewy finish moisturizer. Then you move on to foundation. So foundations come in a variety of undertones. So a quick and easy trick is with your jewelry. If you look best in gold, you're warm. If you look best in silver, you're cool. And if you look good in both, you're neutral. Perfect. It's an easy cheat. All right. So if you want to add a dimension to your face, quick trick. Give us some hacks. A super quick trick is to lift underneath the eye area. So you're going to do that with concealer. Now, a lot of times you see concealer where it's just dotted underneath the eyes. And that's not really, you know, really getting that surface area. So a better way to do it, an upside-down triangle. So that upside-down triangle, that's going to get the areas where there's dark circles, any other discoloration. And then you definitely want to make sure that you blend that out. You're truly concealing. Yes. I like my little red batches. Like I'm playing a football game. I'm going to battle. Blend it out. Then you want a quick finish with mascara. Yes. So a lot of times with mascara, what you want to look for is a thinner brush. Because a thinner brush is really going to get those inner corners and really give you a lot of volume and a lot of lift. And you're going to go from the root and wiggle out to the tips. Give you the nice fanned out lash. Can I see a smile you guys deserve? That's what I want. Yes. Happy nurses. Yes. Very nicely done. We're going to put more Danielle's Transformation Tips online. Thanks for being here. Thank you. Kory and Lori, I want both of you to know that the medical community finds nursing invaluable. But more importantly, America sees it as the number one most respected profession. Congratulations. Thank you. Representing FX, the easy skin ritual every woman needs to put her best face forward. Stick around. I think the biggest issue for me is that I don't know what products to use. Right. That's a clip from the road trip I took with my trusted sponsorship partner, Olay, this summer. Now, when I was out there traveling, a lot of women told me about their skin care rituals. Which got me thinking about what we should all be doing to get our skin ready for the day ahead. Who wants to share their daily skin care ritual? Who's got an idea? Who wants to be brave enough? We have a victim right here. Stand up for me. What's your name? Destiny. So it's your destiny to tell all of us exactly what your skin care ritual is. Yes. Are you ready? Please. Okay. So if I have makeup on, I first remove it with makeup wipes. Alright. And then I cleanse. Good. And then I tone. And then I do some aloe vera. And then I add some... I'm running out of fingers. Some moisturizer. And then that's it. Okay. I'm taking my shoes off next. Alright. That was seven. Thank you very much, Destiny. Let's get back to the basics with an easy three-step ritual to put your best face forward. I'm your beauty director at Shape and Paris Magazine. Kate Sainz of Box is here. Also, we have my sponsor partner, Olay. Everyone has a different spin on the ritual. When we were traveling the country, I heard so many ideas. And a lot of them sounded pretty good. How did it get so complicated and confusing? It's never been more so. In fact, on average, women today can use more than a dozen different skin care and makeup products on their face every single day. Yeah. We can do better. So let's go back to the basics with a three-step skin care ritual. So easy, you never have to think about it again. The first step is to cleanse your skin. Right. So one easy way to get rid of a bunch of products and steps is to use one of the smarter cleansers on the market right now, like Olay Daily Facials. These are dry cloths that you activate with water. This is just water? This is just water. Starts out dry. You activate it with water. Go ahead and put the lid back on there. A little dance routine. Shake that up a little. And you'll see it gets nice and foamy and soapy. And what that's going to do is not only remove your makeup, it's going to cleanse your skin, exfoliate, hydrate, and tone all at once. So we had the audience members take advantage of this technology backstage before the show. I've got them here with me. So I've got Irene and Shawna. Irene, take it away. What do you think? I love the product. It made my skin glow. It took the makeup all off. It exfoliated. I love it. Shawna, your thoughts on it. It feels great. It's moisturizing, uplifting. I love it. It's a great product. Well, you're happy. And you keep using a solution like this. Yes. Good. I love it. Next, we're going to take you to moisturize. I have been blown away by how many women, especially young women, skip this step. So there's a little experiment on the bus over the summer, which you are going to love. Take a look at this. So the corneometer measures your skin's hydration. So you can use it before and after product application. Let's do your baseline. See where we are to start. Fifty-seven. Now, I'm going to give you the micro-sculpting cream. Now, let's see what happens after you use the micro-sculpting cream. Ninety-nine. Wow. Let's bring in the scientists. Dr. Leut, what do these results mean? Well, you know, we love to be able to actually measure and demonstrate the immediate effect of our product. And what you just saw is one of those methods. And that test proves it. So many of the bus riders with me were shocked with the corneometer. All right, Kate. I know the final step in the ritual. I'm just going to say it so no one forgets it. Proctor told us earlier, 80% of how our skin ages is driven by sun aging. So SPF matters. Absolutely. And I get so many questions about sunscreen from my readers. And what they keep telling me is that they know they should be using it, but they still aren't applying it consistently. Just like we heard from your viewers earlier on in the show, sunscreen is that critical last step to your morning routine. But these three steps are your foundation. It doesn't matter the weather. It doesn't matter what your plans are that day. These steps are your never-skip ritual. All right. So what does the future of science look like? Coming up, meet the young woman who is helping to pave the way for the next generation of scientists. Thank you. Today we heard from some of Olay's amazing female scientists who are helping women across the country put their best face forward. And now we're going to celebrate a young woman who's paving the way for the next generation of girls in science, technology, engineering, and math. So-called STEM. Now Jackie means, a.k.a., the STEM queen. What has Jackie done? At age 13, she founded the Wilmington Urban STEM Initiative, hosting STEM workshops for the girls in her community. And now four years later, she's inspiring hundreds of other girls across the country. Thank you for being such an amazing woman and showing us that science is cool. And what I like about Ms. Jackie, the STEM queen, is that she's nice, she cares about the youth, and she teaches us new things. And I love Ms. Jackie. I want to be like her when I grow up because I think she's beautiful, and I want to learn about STEM. Hi, Ms. Jackie! We love you! Thank you for being our STEM queen! Who loves Jackie Mee, so come on out, Jackie! Congratulations. Thank you so much. Now, I gotta say, you don't know this, but I'm actually from Wilmington, Delaware. Really? Yes, I'm from your hometown. That's incredible! Because it was my hometown before it was your hometown. That's awesome! And I know how difficult it is to do a lot of things you're doing. So, please share with everybody, why was it so critical for you to start STEM workshops to change the lives of the next generation? Well, Dr. Oz, living in Wilmington, Delaware, specifically Southbridge, that's even been called Murder County, USA, and where only 40% of teenagers living there graduate with a high school diploma, really prompted me to want to found my initiative because seeing that the standard and the expectation had been set so low, I said, well, I have to do something to combat this. And I've always been passionate about STEM. I think it's amazing. Thank you. I saw there was a lack of free STEM programs for young girls starting as young as age 6, and I said, well, you know what? I'm going to make one myself. So, I founded the initiative over four years ago, and since then, I've positively impacted over 750 young girls, with my girls in high STEM events. This is the power of one! Trisha, how old are you? 17. She's 17! The power of one. You brought an experiment for us, right? I did. Walk us through how you teach young people, and teach us while you're at it. So, may I? Thank you. Since you'll be wearing one of these one day. Oh, absolutely. There you are. Thank you so much. So, explain this to us. Well, at my STEM events, I feel strongly about showing the girls how fun STEM can be, because often girls think it's boring. Safety first. Absolutely, got to protect our beautiful eyes. Showing them it can be fun. So, with us, we have this really cool powder that looks like sugar or even baking soda, but it's not. It's sodium polyacrylate, and we're going to add our colored water to it. Oh, look at that. And just like that, it grows right before our very eyes, and you can touch it and pick it up, and we've created snow. Kids must love this! Absolutely! Now, let's decorate our Christmas trees. Are you all ready? I am. This is what it could look like. Now, what young person doesn't want to do this with their life? They mess up this one, they mess their teammates up, they play, they're naughty. So, what kind of amazing career do you envision for yourself? What are you going to do? Well, Dr. Oz, I want to be a neurosurgeon when I get older. I think the brain is fascinating. A neurosurgeon? Yeah. My brother-in-law is a neurosurgeon. That's amazing. Fantastic career. You know what? I want to make this dream a little easier for you. I know you're saving up for college. Is that true? Yeah. Because college is expensive. Very. So, our friends at Olay have got a little something for you. Come on out. Here come the scientists from Olay, bringing you a little gift, a scholarship. They'll pay for your school $5,000. This is what the future looks like. I'm so proud of you guys. And Olay, thank you very much for supporting her. Thank you. Today, I'm not just celebrating Jackie, I'm also celebrating everyone in my studio audience because I want all of you to be able to face anything in your future. I want to make sure you have the products you need to do so. So, you're going home with not one, not two, but every single product from Olay that was featured on today's show. And thanks to my scientist friends from Olay. We'll see you all next time.
