Little hole in it. It's nice. It's perfect. It's probably got a little boogie to it. Holy cow.
That worked it up no doubt. Hi I'm Lou with another episode of My Car Story. Today I'm with Doug
Bronson and his wife Julie and we've got well a special car for you. What year make and model
is this one? 64 GTO hardtop. Julie what color we have here? Marimba red. Marimba red. Now how long
you had this one you guys? 48 years. 48 years. What'd you pay for this? $250. I think it's a deal now
right? So but there's something come on alongside me. I want to show the side of this car. There's
something interesting along the side and I'll show it to you. If you look go ahead show us where we're
talking Doug. Torque down. So there's a little bend in there. Yeah that's the GTO is doing what it
should be doing getting hammered on. And you put a dent in there. It's the torque. There's a torque
dent. Twist it. So somebody fixed it and what happened then? Well he fixed it the body guy
and he said I spent a lot of time fixing that and it took you two days to put it back.
Come on back let's take a look at your car. It took me some time to get that fixed and you put
a big dent in it. I'll start with the front. Now this one doesn't have the 400 or the 389.
This one has something else. What happened here? I had what you do is go as big as you can.
You can go big or go home right? You got your arrowhead. You have your faux dents there.
Of course you've got the first muscle on this one. But we're having fun as you can see in Minnesota.
Now tell me uh you've got this one day two just right. You got a 455 under the hood. You've got
craggers on there. Not just craggers but you've got the spinners which were date coded correct.
Well I had two old original ones and we had to buy new ones. Yeah they got expensive. Right
your 6.5 liter has moved up a few from that time frame. And the red lines on the back.
You cut those? Yep this is the best area that I did. Yeah these are nice cuts. They're in
innies. Right I can see you can pick stick my finger inside them versus sticking out. Right
that's proper. Nice. Proper things. One car show we have they have a best Pontiac award. Yeah. And
the inner fender seals on the front if they're not there. There's been some cars that should
have won the best Pontiac. Really? But them fender seals weren't there. And I know that either
somebody smart rebuilt you know did the building on it. Yeah. Or they worked really hard to get
them in there. Wow. So there's been a few cars that haven't had them that didn't get that award
because they weren't there. And this one's got a hitch on it. Oh yeah. Your arrowhead there.
One time a gremlin we was at a car show and he thought we should race. They were lining up
at this four-way stop to race and he came on the whole way moving in and out to get next to me.
I had the trailer behind. Oh he had a trailer and he still wanted to race. With a heavy scooter in
it. With a heavy scooter in it. I beat him bad. I punished him. Let's open the trunk shall we?
These gremlins they can be fast. Oh they are yeah I mean you put a v8 in a gremlin and there's not
much weight to those gremlins for sure. Well they had some big motors in them but this guy
he was after me. I have a real nice randall gremlin on the channel with a 401 and wow it's
really nice. That's really smooth. That's I don't know if it's 65 or 66 they started with
spatter paint. 64 should be the same color as the car. Okay. As far as I know you know my knowledge.
Nice. I'm going to open it may I? I'll let you shut that Julie. Thank you.
All right. How'd you get to be such a Pontiac guy? Once you find the best you stick with it.
You seen the license plates in the back window? Let me see. The pharaohs, the scavengers,
the aristocats. You familiar with American graffiti? Oh yeah sure. The pharaohs car club?
They still exist in little splinters and we are pharaohs. Is that right?
We were at a car show by Omaha and a guy come up and he said you know I'm a pharaoh and only cool
people get to be pharaohs and I can make you guys a pharaoh. Look at that. So he did. What
a compliment right? He was crawling all over the car and then he came and went in with us
he said the pharaohs same deal no dues we don't do anything but you just got to be cool enough
and apparently we were. This one's got no power steering. It's got the right amount of pedals.
It's got the right amount of pedals. I see Arnie the farmer Beswick there too. Yeah he drove this
car. Did he? Twice. The first time was actually kind of uh questionable because we never unloaded
he got in started it shifted it turned the wheel and stepped on the brake and everything.
Nice. And the next time he drove it around the church parking lot where the show was
he squawked the tires. They told us at the show the church lady don't be marking up our new
parking lot and after we were done and loaded up and leaving she said how did you get Arnie
to not burn out? And I said you told us not to. There you go. It was a it was a holy spirit
inspired non-burnout. All right yeah you know what you know you know what that would have
happened if you would have done burnouts in the church parking lot you know what that would have
been? Holy smoke. All right come on over here let's pop the hood shall we. Well he did. That's
what you should have asked her you should have said can we make holy smoke. He squawked the
tires and he said this thing has got some snooze to it and that was really. Oh yeah look at that.
We hear that from Arnie Beswick. That's a compliment yeah that's a compliment boy this
is a nice little toy under here. So this one has some heads it came from a divorce
the guy told me you better. Jim Oingers go ahead. And get this stuff before the wife throws it in
and they've been worked this one is fast. Let's uh let's start it up shall we Julie? See that's
Jim Wangers. I saw Jim Wangers the marketing director and Arnie Beswick. Arnie. Yeah we're at
the GTO show. Hey did you see the tiger under the hood? I did see the tiger under the hood. We were at the GTO show in St. Louis
and that's where Jim Wangers was that's where he signed it. Is that right? Yeah we had him do that
that's pretty cool. Yeah this one day two just right. Leave it just like that Julie. Oh the band
is playing now. You could set your ringtone to that one. Go ahead Julie give it a row. All right Doug.
Purrs like a kitten. From the opener we made it growl like a tiger in the shed. I'm sure it
rings your ears no doubt about that. So how long have you had this one? 48 years. 48 years a member
of the family. Do you have any that are more favorite or is this is I mean they're all kind
of your babies? Everybody asks me that and I tell them the one that just got me home is my favorite.
The one that got me home is my favorite car that is great. Because we've had
you know a little car you have issues sometimes. Oh yeah they're cars especially when you get
older cars. I like how this little tiger's looking. That's good stuff. Oh I saw that yeah
Harney Bestwick decided to sign your uh yeah that's pretty cool. Well Doug what a fun trip.
What a great acceleration run. Holy cow this thing really rips. What a fun time. Thanks so much for
being on my car story. Yes. From the hobby. Promoting the hobby and keeping the keeping
the legacy of these great cars going. Thanks Doug. You're welcome. I got a little bonus feature here
for you. This is a correct piece. This is 1964 GTO and that's on the dome light has a map light
as you can see. I just wanted to show you that because you don't see those very often
and I thought that was something you might want to see.
