Atlanta about to be invaded by heroes, villains, monsters, a
lot more. It's always a fun time of year, isn't it? Dragon
Con returns one week from tomorrow, which means fans
across the country are finalizing their looks for this
massive event. In good days, Paul Milliken is standing by
and Paul, I remember the first time I my first year here in
Atlanta, I was like downtown going to a fire or something
and I look and I see Darth Vader walking a lot. What is
going on? You'll never forget your first dragon. No, that is
for sure and once you've been indoctrinated, you're addicted
and you just wanna keep coming back and this is why Dragon Con
is the best and it's coming soon one week from tomorrow.
Dragon Con is back and as we all know, there are so many
reasons to go visit Dragon Con, but the costuming track and the
cosplay aspect certainly among the big highlights and we're so
thrilled to have all of you in the studio this morning. Thank
you very much and also Matt Silva, who's a makeup special
effects and prosthetics expert and just if you would, Matt
brag on yourself for a minute, run down a few of your credits.
What are some big projects you've worked on? Oh man,
there's been so many, but I mean, I think people would know
a lot of the Marvel stuff, Black Panther, Gardens of the
Galaxy and most recently Scream 7 was a big one. So that that
was great. Yeah, I was so excited about that. So tell me
about your history with Dragon Con. You've been a few times in
your life. Yeah, you could say that I've been since I was 13
years old. My dad who's also a nerd took me and that I mean
can't talk about the amount of support from family to be
creative and Dragon Con is just a place where from childhood
to adulthood, you get to experience play and it's it's
amazing. Yeah. So how much did your Dragon Con experience then
influence you going into a creative career? Oh 100%. It was
like realizing that magic could happen no matter what people
tell you because everybody's like, oh, you gotta be a lawyer
or a doctor and I was like, no, I'm pretty sure I can do that.
That's amazing. So is there a difference between cosplay and
costuming? Would you say those are two different things? Yeah,
I mean, I think a lot of people they have a different opinion
about what that means but I think ultimately, you know,
people who want to embody a character as well as wearing
costumes kind of kind of wear that moniker of cosplayer but
but it runs again. It's a spectrum for sure. Yeah,
there's a full costuming track at Dragon Con. You'll be busy
this year, right? Oh yeah, super busy. I'll be judging the
Friday night costume contest so that'll be fun. You get to see
some of the best craftsmen in the country and some even in
the world, you know, people come from all over. Yeah. Are
any of you participating in the contest? No, I was going to say
no bribes while we're here at a news station. Alright. So,
first of all, the four of you look fantastic and I've met
several of you before. So, introduce yourself again if you
would. Hey, I'm Josh Stewart, also Artemistic. And I love
that the last time we saw you or one of the last times you
were Glinda the Good Witch. Now, you are Fiero. Yes, of
course, you had to be both sides of the relationship.
Of course, of course. I can do both. I love this. Where did
this come from? This actually is from a costume shop in China
but I modified it pretty heavily once I got it. So, I
actually wore this to the New York premiere of the Wicked
film and met Jonathan Bailey while I was wearing this. Okay,
what was his reaction to seeing this? Oh, he loved it. He told
he actually his exact words were, you wear it well. Oh, that
is amazing. I love that. How early do you come up with your
looks for Dragon Con? For Dragon Con, usually five to six
months if not more. Uh some people I know do it a little
last minute but I try to be a little far out because I tend
to work on things pretty slowly. So, gotta give myself
some time. Yeah, that's good that you know yourself. Okay,
next up, if you would introduce yourself. I'm Tamara
Comstock, also known as Tamara Paint. And also seen on Good
Day Atlanta in the past. Tell me about your look. I am
Corella from the 2021 live action remake. Um this dress
was in the movie about 45 seconds and I was obsessed with
it. I love that. Forty-five seconds of screen time and you
were like, that's my look. So, how did this happen? Who
designed and put this together? Me. I made all of it. Amazing.
How long did that take you? Um well, the movie came out in the
summer and I kind of panic made it in six weeks which is not
normal but it was one of those things where I just I just was
in love with it so much and I was like, hey, I can do this.
Oh, this is so cool. Well, you both look amazing as do the two
of you. We're gonna chat with you coming up in the 9 o'clock
hour and again, Caitlin, Alex, I would say I'm cosplaying as a
grown-up right now. That is my contribution to Dragon Con
right now. I've got the suit on which rarely happens. I don't
think I'm pulling it off though. I still look like a
twelve-year-old on bring your bring your kid to work day,
right? You could just full-blown say like cosplaying
as a reporter. Yes. Yeah. There you go. Yeah. Cuz I'm not a
real one. Not a real one. I am cosplaying as a reporter today.
Bless my god. Always a fun time of year, Paul. Thanks for
stage for us and Dragon Con returns to downtown Atlanta
