Hey, what's up guys welcome back today. I'm gonna show you a very fun twist on orange chicken
That's perfect for parties something. I like to call popcorn orange chicken
So first up you're gonna get a small sauté pan on medium to high heat
Add a little bit of chopped up garlic with a little bit of canola oil give it a quick sauté
Then you're gonna add some mirin
Followed by some ground ginger a little bit of red chili flake to add some spice to the sauce some soy sauce
Rice wine and vinegar it's gonna add a nice bit of acidity to the sauce as well
And then you're gonna grate
One orange worth of zest and then you're gonna squeeze that orange and get all the juice out as much as you can
It's gonna add that nice orange flavor. It's really just gonna make this sauce an orange glaze
Next you're gonna add a slurry which is essentially just water and cornstarch mixed together
And that's gonna thicken the sauce just make it a really nice glaze
That's gonna perfectly coat your orange chicken
Let this reduce for about five minutes until it gets nice and thick then pour it into a container
Cover it with plastic wrap because it will develop a skin and then you're just gonna set it aside until you're ready to use it
All right. So once your orange glaze is done, you're gonna start the breading process for your diced up dark chicken meat
Just add it to a simple mixture of egg and milk
Give it a good mix and then you're gonna strain this which is gonna make the breading process a whole lot easier because the pieces
are so small
Next you're gonna dredge this in a flour that's been seasoned with a little bit of salt and pepper
Give it a good mix and make sure that the chicken is thoroughly coated in the dredging mixture
Once that's done. You're gonna get a small sauce pot. That's been filled halfway up with some canola oil bring it up to about
375 degrees Fahrenheit and then you're gonna fry this chicken in two batches and it should take about three to four minutes to fry
Once they're done
Pull them out with a slotted spoon and then put them into a bowl that has a dry paper towel just to blot off any excess
grease
All right
So once your chicken is all fried up you're gonna season it with just a little bit more salt and give it a toss or two
Then you're gonna add a few good spoonfuls of that orange glaze that you made earlier
Give it another toss or two just so it's completely and thoroughly coated in that amazing glaze and then you're gonna plate it up
I would like to garnish this with a few sliced scallions and maybe a few sesame seeds
It depends on what you prefer. But there you guys have it a delicious popcorn orange chicken recipe. That's perfect for a party
The whole apartment smells like this orange zesty sort of citrus soy glaze little fried chicken
I can smell some of the red chili pepper as well. I'm super excited to try this popcorn orange chicken
It's like nice little bite-sized
Orange chicken. I mean who doesn't like orange chicken and then you make it bite-sized, you know
I'm just gonna use this sort of as a dipping sauce
I know there's some glaze on that coated on the top of the chicken, but I really like the orange glaze
So I'm just gonna have at it
Mm-hmm. Oh, wow. This orange glaze is killer. So good
Very similar to Panda Express. I mean, I think that's sort of the pinnacle
To all orange chickens is trying to match that sauce and this comes really close
Has a really nice citrus bite to it a nice spice coming off the red chili flake and nice little savory touch with the garlic
Mmm
