Today is September 1st. Rosters expand and the end is near. Let's talk Yanks.
Hello and welcome to Talking Yanks. My name is Jimmy. His name is Jake. BBD is producing
Aaron Boone will be joining and Fanatic Sportsbook is sponsoring. Now we are recording this intro
before we sit down with Boone, Jake, because we're recording with Boone a little later because it's
the West Coast. Do you think he's going to wake up? Me and BBD were talking about this and Jake,
how are you? Welcome. And then I'll ask you this question. Oh, James Davis, everyone tuning in.
Yeah, it's funny. You know, an hour later for us, but two hour earlier for Boone. So it's kind of
ships passing in the night a little bit. I'm I'm anxious to hear about this question. I can't even
think. Me and Babes were saying eight in the morning for him. Wonder if he's going to be like
perky and happy or is are we going to see going to roll out of bed, open his laptop where the
first faces he sees. And he's like five a.m. Eastern. Yeah. Five, eight. No, no, no. I don't
know. He's an adult and he's on 11 a.m. time. So, yeah, he's going to have already had a coffee
with the fellas. So he's like, maybe he's got his workout and he's going to be all like happy and
energized coming off a tough loss last night there in California. He's a Californian. They took three
out of four from the Red Sox and that felt good. And that was exciting. But the first game in L.A.
was tough. So it's a blended packet. We also have expanded rosters to ask about.
We also have injury people coming back. So if you just want us to go for blood because of last
night, I have some questions about some of that, some of the sloppy plays. But there are just a
ton of like there's a ton of bullet points on our prep sheet today. Yeah, it's fully I'll double
peel back the curtains for Boone episode one. A lot going on here between rosters,
expanded rosters to current rosters, to injuries, to everything. And yeah, a good smattering,
like you mentioned, three out of four from the Red Sox. Good. Last night's game, arguably worst
game of the year. I don't know if you're going to give your official ranking on it at the end
of the episode. Tune in for that. That's a that's a that's a maybe a one. Yeah, there's a chance.
There's a chance. What was good about it? Spencer's home run swing. Yeah. OK, that was good.
Rice got into a ball and then it went nowhere. Yeah. Oh, did he hit that hard? And then I was
like, no, never mind. Yeah, that was tough. That was tough. And another thing. And I'll I'll I'll
do this. And another thing. Another thing. I'll just do this. You know, Yankees win three out of
four from the Red Sox. Oh, I need you to look into judges. Remember when we looked up judges
rib specialist? Yeah. That kind of sexy Dallas guy. Yeah. I might have to reach out because I've
got some rib stuff and I want to peel it back for the people a little bit. You know, Sunday's
episode, there's a lot of comments like, why aren't you guys more juiced? And part of it's
right. You know, blowout wins when they get blowout blowout. Don't super impress us like,
you know, the fast last five runs off a position pitcher. That's not going to get me more jazzy.
We won two big games. I like that. My voice was a little beat up. My rib was a little beat up. I
should have been clear about that. And then comma comma, I'd also like to say to Yankee fans,
like that was more of an exhale episode than a full blown excitement. Like, in theory,
we think we kept bossing off of our back, which one night later feels a little different. And
like, what are we playing for? If we're not catching the rays? Like, I can't be like hype
that we might have gotten the first wildcard spot. And we also did it. So like context,
people were excited. Judge was gonna miss three months because they thought he might miss the
year. Yeah. And I was like, well, this is still really bad. No, I mean, losing to the Red Sox
would have been three or four they had to do. They had to do that. And they didn't look at me
doing it. So here we go in Anaheim and the sloppiness continues, right? Now I want to
catch the rays when I hand up. I want to catch the first night last night. And because the timing
of the timing of the games was different first night, I not only scoreboard watched, I watch
watched. Yeah. Like I saw the razor winning in the eighth inning or losing in the eighth inning
against the Mets. And I was like, I got to watch this. So I put it on and they got it done. And
then I'm like, this is gonna be great. And then I thought Elmer's curveball looked great in the
first two innings. And so I was a little excited. So I had worked myself into, wow, we're gonna be
three and a half back on the rays after this game. The Red Sox are down three runs late. What else
could happen? The dead and buried in my book. Uh, no, but now they're back. Yeah. So, um, yeah,
last night was real deflating for me, but I'm gonna try and not let it seep in too much, but
it was pretty deflating. His name was Dr. Gregory Pearl, I think. No, I don't think that's right.
Who's Dr. Gregory Pearl then? Pearl is known for treating thoracic. Oh, that's him. Yeah.
Okay. That's him then. Oh yeah. All right. Why you're you, you feel like you got a rib?
Something with my ribs. It's new. Are you going to be able to swing and pitch? We're going to find
out. Okay. Literally in a couple hours. Boone. Today's episode is sponsored by booking.com.

manager of the New York Yankees, Aaron Boone coming live from the left coast. Skip, how are you?
I'm all right. How are you guys? We're good, man. I mean,
a emotional few days, three out of four from the socks. Tough one last night. How are you doing?
Yeah. Um, yeah, long trip out West and, and then, uh, you know, uh, obviously didn't play
well last night. So, uh, just eager to get back out there and get back in the wind column.
Seems like a, just such a big time for the, the roster in general with,
with Lombard judge, uh, and September 1st. So you get the expanded rosters.
I know that it's 8 AM for you. So I'm, I'm guessing you haven't had like a morning briefing,
but maybe there's, you, you know, what you guys are doing anyway. Like, is there any roster moves
you can give us insight in that are happening today with the expanded rosters? I expect
and do you know who is anyone there'll be added as anyone being sent down? Like, is Elmer?
No, no, not as of now. No. So we'll Elmer transition to a bullpen role. Cause right
now we have six starters on the roster, right? We have six. So, uh, working through how we're
going to do this weekend. Um, um, so we might do with, with max probably going to similar
kind of pitch thing. Next time we might, we might piggyback, uh, with him, with,
with, uh, maybe we'll this weekend. And then Rodan goes to, uh, and we'll, and Garrett might
be in play to go again, uh, the end of the week. Oh, right. Cause there's the two off days coming
up too. Okay. Interesting. Yep. And, uh, with Lombard, we saw him moving around yesterday,
uh, but it's been a couple of days now, uh, of games, uh, where he hasn't started or, or appeared.
So it seems like you're up against that limit of either. He's going to play sooner or you backdate
the 10 day or the, the IL. We can backdate, but I don't, I still not sure we're going to do that.
Now, that being said, he's not in the lineup today. Um, he did run yesterday and like running,
you wouldn't know, like, you know, it's full go. He took ground balls. Um, you know, so there's
still a little bit of limitation when he gets into, you know, like full flexion and things
like that, but it's improving. And it, and I, you know, I think, especially with the off day
and it, as long as he's, you know, you know, at least an emergency or more than that today or
tomorrow, um, and then having the off day, I feel like it's not going to be an IL situation,
but I can't totally rule it out either. If there's no improvement today and or tomorrow.
And it's a inflammation in the patella. Is that correct?
Yeah. Is that the same as what they call jumpers knee?
I don't think so.
Okay. Cause I know Jacob Wilson had jumpers name and infielders.
No, there's a clinical what exactly happened. It's essentially just,
he has some swelling around the patella based on that. I don't know the clinical, what he did.
Has becoming a manager made you pretty skilled, like medically, like you, you learn a lot of
stuff, man. You learn it for a day and then forget it until maybe a little more.
Yeah. It's usually you got like four or five things and yeah.
Well, how worried were you? I mean, a non contact like
injury is usually pretty scary. Like, you know, they showed the replay and you're like,
did he get hit? Did he not? You know, my art always thinks those are usually the worst ones,
non-contact. So it seemed like a pretty scary thing where you're relieved or, you know,
what were the emotions in between finding out?
Definitely relieved. I don't know that I was overly concerned necessarily. Um,
you know, cause it seemed like when they were testing them out, structurally, everything
seems sound like his physical testing, like there was no immediate concern, but you know,
that next at bat he took, he's getting down the line. You could tell it was just not great.
And so, you know, obviously needed to get it checked out, but the original, like,
you know, test the trainers put on and physically go through and strength tests and stuff. We're all
okay. Um, but yeah, you know, at the end of the day, we still removed them from the middle of the
game. Um, and, and, but obviously got some good news on it.
I think we got a couple more injury ones here. I mean, uh, Clark has been rehabbing and,
and pitching out of the bullpen. I, what's the timeline?
I'm not sure exactly. He's going again on Wednesday, um, is his next one. So
where he'll have two ups this time. Um, so, you know, I, I would think at least a couple,
few more. Um, but I thought he looked pretty good the other day. You know, he gave, he gave
up two runs. He gave up a Homer, but if you watch it, like he, he, I thought he looked good and his
live, his live leading into that, I thought looked, looked really good too. So I'm encouraged
where Clark's at. I think there's a real chance that he could, he could help us.
With, uh, another righty on the bump today and Mack being back with the squad. Will we see the,
the lefty stack you've done a couple of times now against righties with four lefties up top?
Uh, we got eight lefties in there tonight. Okay. I saw you smiling. I was like, what's he so
excited about? So eight lefties and cabby cabby. Yeah. Wow. Okay. And then is rice going to lead
off again? Rice is leading off again. Yes. So that's a move that you are kind of running,
letting you run its course for a little bit. Haven't having Grisham slot back.
Yeah, maybe we'll see. I got, I got one other injury. I don't think people have been asking
you about this guy, but a judge is there a, what's next? We keep seeing like the videos
keep getting better. Is he doing any trajectory hitting anything like that? Greg Joyce reported
that you guys are looking at Colorado that he might return for that series. I believe.
Uh, I mean, I don't know that I, I mean, that'd be great. Um, I'm not going to rule anything out,
but I haven't, like, we haven't set a time, like, uh, Oh, this is, you know, we're just kind of
letting him progress, um, with baseball activities. Um, he did hit, hit, project,
uh, over the weekend. Um, we were back in New York. Um, he'll be throwing the bases here soon.
He's moving in the outfield. He's doing well. He's physically doing well. Again,
the biggest thing is like just building up the reps and endurance and, and the use to doing it,
you know, for a couple hours, you know, that's, that's been the biggest thing,
but the injury itself is responding well. So that's good. Um, so yeah, you know,
as we go through the week, um, just continues to turn up the intensity on the, on the
baseball activity front. And then, um, but I don't know a date yet. You know, I think there's a
chance it can be when we get home, but, um, I can't say that definitively. He had come out and
he said that he didn't want to, he might not want, he might not, I don't know if it was want
was the word, but, um, might not do any minor league rehab games. Is that, is that something
new? Is that because of the tools guys have to get into shape with the traject with live APS,
but it seems more and more, we have veterans that are kind of just being like, nah, not into that.
Yeah. Yeah. Maybe it is. Um, um, you know, I, I don't know all the history of rehab
assignments. I know, I don't think he did it in 23 when he missed a couple of months. Um,
that's what he referenced as well. Yeah. Um, I recall, was there a year, maybe last year,
the year before I remember Trey Turner and maybe real Muto missing a ton of time and they didn't
go on rehab assignments. Cause, cause you are able to replicate a lot of things now,
more so. Uh, I remember back in the day, Ken Griffey jr. When he missed,
missed time with the wrist, you know, when he jumped into the wall and, um,
I think he missed a few months as well. And I actually think he went out to do a rehab assignment
and was going to play a few games, play the game and came back and was in the lineup the next day.
So I don't know. I mean, we'll, we'll cross that bridge when we get there. I remember you guys
send Stan to get live at bats from some of the minor leaguers that were rehabbing and a young
kid hit him in the leg and, and hurt him again in 2018 or something like that. And I was like,
oh, that's tough for everyone involved. Some people were saying these minor league uniforms
are making them stay away. Did you see Abner Uribe rehabbing in Lederhosen?
Now you say that I see a picture of him. Yeah. Crazy. I guess that's fun.
I guess. Thanks for the minor leaguers thinking they're going to get taken care of for a day.
You know, some of these city connects. It's not much different. It's true. That's true. Um,
Boone, I wanted to ask you about one play in particular that you guys like running. I've
asked you about it before. Uh, we saw it come up yesterday, which brings it top of mind. It's the,
the pickoff play to second base in motion. You guys run that play more than any other team
in the league. And in April and may, uh, at the start of the season, you, you, uh, got three outs
on it. And the first 18, you got three guys out. Uh, since then we haven't seen him getting out
and four of the last nine times the ball has been thrown errantly or into the outfield. Just
wondering if that gives you any, you know, it's a risky place. Some teams never do it because
an overthrow leads to, you know, going to third potentially home. Has there been any thought to
how many of the four of the nine of advanced, um, through three or two,
two advanced, I believe of the last nine. And then, yeah. Uh, the answer is no, no pause.
Like even last night, like we got to play catch, like, you know, and, and it's not always about
getting somebody out. You know, one of the reasons we do a really good job and have for years now
in controlling the running game is these kinds of things that are in, in play. It's not all
just the catcher throws out a runner it's limiting attempts. It's, um, you know, we go into a series
and you, you know, we, we go through heavily, you know, every, every picture and who we can
exploit, who we can take advantage on, who you can run on, who you are going to have a challenging
time running against what teams do a good job in controlling the running game. And it's not
always about this catcher's thrown out 20 out of 30, or this a lot of times it's the volume and,
and the volume part of that pie or equation is how do you as a team, how do your individual pitchers
in concert with the catcher control the running game. So, um, you know, that's an area where
Louie has come in and Rojas and done a really good job with creating that kind of culture
with our pitchers and, and, and the buy-in that we have from our pitchers, you know,
starting with Garrett on down, like they, they are, you know, very serious about how we do that.
And, you know, one of the reasons I think like, probably, and I'm guessing right now,
but statistically, I would say in stolen base runs defensively, we're probably really good.
And that's without having, you know, a bazooka throwing catcher. Wellesley does a good job,
but it's like all that's part of the, part of the pie. I agree. We've talked about it a lot
about how it's a team effort, the run prevention that you guys do and talk about how we, you know,
getting pitchers to buy into it was an issue a couple of years ago. Uh, and, and now it's,
one of the things that happened is we had, we had a game in Boston. I remember one in, in 2020
in, in the COVID year where late in the year before the playoffs, we had a, you know,
they stole a bunch of bases off us. And, um, and I think that was before Louie was here and it was
kind of, you know, it got the attention of even some of our pitchers where it's like, Hey,
we got to do a better job of this. And sometimes get your head beat in, like
sharpens you up a little bit. But since Louie's come in, he's done a really good job in creating
that culture where, you know, our, our pitchers have done now done a really good job of taking
pride in it and taking ownership at it. And everyone's not great at it still. You're still
going to have guys that come in that it's a challenge for, and you're going to have those
guys on a staff, but overall you want to, you know, have a group that, you know,
is there anything to, um, you know, being so much tidier at it in April and May,
closer to spring training where every day is kind of practice. Yeah, that's fair. Um,
you know, we do a good bit of PFP and we try and schedule those things in, but you're,
you're the, that is, there is something to that. Like, cause that in spring training,
you're doing that every day, every day. Yeah. And with the same people within like every day
ish. Yeah. Like where, you know, you're not in the game that day. You're, you're in a group of
PFP or you're working on picks or things like that. So yeah, definitely spring training is
more time for that. We've seen, um, in the last, I mean, maybe in the last seven games,
three plays now that had two errors on one play. Yeah. And it, that I, I'm sure as a manager,
as a player, as a fan is a compounding frustration of, Oh, and then, Oh, and, uh, you know, one,
it was Garcia threw it to third, uh, with no one covering with Mack and Lombard. That was a while
ago. Uh, and then there was another, and last night we saw it with that play, that pickup play
that goes off cabbie's glove. And I don't know if this was ruled an error, but Grisham throws it
in to the pitcher's mound, kind of lobs it. Garcia's not there. When you watch that playback,
if you have like, how do you break down that there? Grisham threw it in, but Garcia wasn't
there. So it kind of landed on the grass in front of the pitcher's mound. And it wasn't
hard thrown jazz was kind of calling for it, but he was close over jazz's head and Garcia
like kind of ran in and got it on the move. The runner advanced, uh, on that. Cause where's the
breakdown there? Like, how do you assess that as a manager? Yeah, we'll, we'll kind of walk through
it today. Like it's one of those where it's, it's kicked off the glove. So it's now everyone's
scrambling into mode. So I actually thought Louie did an okay job of getting over there. Like,
because it's not like this is a base hit situation where you instinctively go,
it's a pickoff play it's off. And now, Oh, I got to scramble into action. So I thought
he got there. We'll review it. And on Grisham's end, does he need to see a guy there? Is he just
getting it into the, where the guy should be no matter what, as fast as he can on that play.
Yeah. He's got to get it in, um, as quick as he can and knowing like for him, it almost turns
into a base hit cut situation. I guess another quick one, if you have it, the, the ball, uh,
the Spencer Jones sliding play, like he, he makes an effort on it. It scoops out of the glove. It
goes flying. And then I don't know, on replay, I saw jazz and cabbie are both at second base.
Like is, is, should there be pursuit by jazz there? Cause like Caballero ends up getting
the ball after that, which it was on the turf for awhile. I guess, is there anything there
based on where we're shifted and whatever, like he's got to go. If he feels like he has a chance
at that ball, I think the only close to chance of that is Spencer. Yeah. So, um, just that one's,
I, I look at more of an unfortunate bounce off the glove or it kicks. Yeah. Uh, how much does
it sink being a manager and having to be like, I got a bus, you gotta come in and get this inning
pal. Yeah. Brutal, brutal. Like that's one of those you, you, you hate, um, you know, especially
just, especially who buses and just, I mean, obviously how good he's been, but just, you know,
the, the leader and guy he is down there now, look, it's, we knew the reality going in last
night of the situation. So it's part of it. And you're going to have games like that, where,
you know, your closers got to pick up an inning in a lower leverage spot.
Um, so you hate it. Um, you hate when there's some runs given up. Um, so a bad night,
you know, that, you know, kind of turns the knife a little bit just because, you know,
what he means to, to our team and to our group and to our culture and everything. So I hated that.
Um, but you know, that's also one of the realities of the one 62 and, and the grind
that it is like, you're going to have days where, you know, it's not pretty and it's,
um, and you got to do some things that, that you, you don't want to do. Obviously.
You had a, you talked about, uh, bringing a position player in your post game and, and I had
a follow-up cause you, you said if you, you were thinking about it, but you wanted to give the
position player, no baserunners or take care of that late last baserunner. And I take my closer
out with an earn run sitting on the base. I'm going to give it to this. Okay, great. That's
all I needed. That makes much more sense. You're protecting Bednar's stats for him sake.
I mean, I guess it's yes, it's protecting the stats a little bit, but you're just not going
to do that to your closer. Yeah, no, I get it. That's all I needed. I just wanted to follow up.
I figured there was an answer. Um, all right. So, uh, Katie Sharp tweets out these stats today
about Trent Grisham. He's, uh, got the fifth worst batting average amongst qualified hitters.
And then on defensively outs above average and defensive run saves second worst, uh, among
qualified center fielders. So what is it that the, that the stats aren't telling us or that you're
seeing that, you know, keeps him the guy for you, uh, in center field and starting every day.
Yeah, I think he's there. I think he's the best option, uh, moving forward. Like a lot of times,
like, like, uh, I think there's been a handful of plays this year that have really dinged them,
but you guys watch every game too. Like, I also think he's, he's pretty good and
very reliable out there. And I think, I still feel like his best work can be in front of them.
It's, it's kind of like when you say, you know, like, I know like Rosario hasn't quote unquote,
hit lefties this year or lately. If you watch the games, like kind of has, it just,
it's been kind of a weird stretch where, you know, like, like last night he's,
hasn't a bad off a lefty. And it's kind of a really good at bat. And he
pummels a ball to center to the wall. And it's like, he's had a lot of those, like you watch
the at bats and you're like, Oh, this guy's, this guy's a threat here against this guy.
And in just a smaller sample or 58, his last 58 days or something, because those hasn't got
results, but I would bet he's going to get results if he continues to get that bass versus lefty.
So yeah, I just, I have a lot of confidence with Grish out there. I think there's four or five,
six plays over the course of this year that have really dinged them where you don't convert a play
or you don't get a jump where you lose a ball in the sun or whatever. And those add up for an
outfielder. This episode is sponsored by better help being a Yankees fan means riding a lot of

Now with Grish, there was a series there where we talked about it on our recap where he had one
hit in the series. Um, I think it was the Toronto one, but he was, you know, 10 pitches every at
bat. He had a lot of walks since then. I think it's been three series now where he hasn't gotten
multiple hits. So the last 16 games have been kind of the opposite for me where like I had that,
like, Hey, I think this is going to come. And then it didn't. And it feels like that's been
the tale of his season. You know, right before the injury, he had a 15 game window where he was
the offense. And then coming back from the injury at another, like maybe 10 game stretch,
but on the whole, there's been these big gaps. And I just, I just wonder going into
the last month of the season that, Hey, it's going to come around. Uh, will it,
is there room for Spencer Jones to kind of get some, some reps, uh, when judge comes back
his last 40 games, I think has been, I mean, you know, that's, that's a great thing about the game.
The game will show you. And, um, I do feel like Grish will go into another stretch where he will
have that. I think the last week, you know, he's kind of, you know, had struggled a little bit at
the plate. Um, but I think everyone's going to kind of do that. And I, look, I, I think I agree
like those stretches were like carrying break. And I think first of the season,
he was swinging really well and not being a reward. Now he has had a couple of those
downturns and one of those he'll get it going. And I, and I feel like when our lineup is whole,
like he's really good when we're whole too, because he's, he's another guy that just kind
of sees a lot of pitches kind of makes the group better, but you know, you Spencer's done a really
good job too. And, and, and now we're talking hypotheticals anyway, Spencer's, uh, gradual
improvement. I mean, it feels like it generally feels like week to week. It's almost like he adds
another tool to his bag. Is that what you've been seeing as well? I don't know about adding another
tool. I just think he's done a good job adjusting to major league pitching and he's not overwhelmed
by anything. Um, you know, he's, he's done, he's just, you know, he's not sped up. Um, he's just
done a good job. You know, obviously he's played regularly, but there's been, you know, like this
weekend he's, he's out of the lineup in two games, but just kind of at ease, ready to go.
If his numbers call it, it's not like, you know, he's not worked up or he's prepared. He's done a
really good job and he under, he's, he's got a good idea of who he is and his strengths and
weaknesses. And I think he's done a good job building a plan and understanding who he's facing
and what they're trying to do to him. So it's been fun to watch him make little subtle adjustments
too. Um, he's done a good job. He's grown a lot at this level this year and that's a testament to
him and, and kind of his work and makeup. And I've loved, I've loved what I've seen from him.
One more topic that was the biggest story the last two days and, um, about jazz, about stealing
two bases, a six run lead and Michael K reached out to you and shared, you got to get your side
of it out on record. I'm more interested because I think it was awesome that Kay did that. And we
got to hear the full, uh, you know, from your vantage point, how much has that changed? You know,
what is your grandpa? What would he think about that situation to your dad, to your brother, to
you? Like, do you think it's always been that way? And the media makes it a bigger deal and fans or,
or, or has it truly changed through the generations of when to steal or when not?
I don't know about change. I think it's definitely evolved and it's not so cut and dry on some
things. And, you know, you know, and I look, you know, last night's a good example. I mean,
we had bed NAR obviously available last night coming off of where he has a pitch. So he had
to be the guy, but like, you know, let's say we're, we don't run that situation. And I kind
of put it as we're two batters away from using bed NAR the day before. Well, if that was the
case, then Blackburn's in the game last night and he's down today. Like those things all add up. So
I think the way bullpens are used nowadays compared to when I played certainly compared
to when my dad and my grandpa played, it's, it's, it's different. But I still respect a
lot of the, you know, the unwritten rules or whatever, like, but in my view, they've evolved.
And at the end of the day, it's my job to do what I think is right for our team. So I never,
I'm not in the business of running things up or I like, I have that old school thing to me,
but the other day that, that situation did not get to that level for me and everyone's a little
bit different, frankly, and how they view it. And then you said you had shut jazz down,
but then they were playing backs. He told him to go, he grabs two bags. Are you aware that's
his 39th and 40th on the season? And that if you were, would you have been like, ah,
maybe this becomes a storyline because that, cause that's what the Red Sox
analysts kind of turned it into jazz is just trying to get his 40th
record. And that stings for jazz. Yeah. But he's going to end up with more than 40. Yes.
Like there was just another layer to the chaos of the speculation.
Yeah. Hopefully that's that more in time looks bad on, on them for, you know, going there,
you know, jazz did nothing wrong. I I'm happy that Kay reached out to you and we got to hear the,
that aspect of it. Cause otherwise I don't think it gets out. I'm sure there's been times in your
career where the real thing never gets out. Yeah. I agree. Cool. All right. Anything else, Jake?
We have, I got a quick trivia and then I've got my own personal question. A little trivia
presented by T-Mobile. Uh, jazz got his 40th season steal of the season this weekend. Who was
the last Yankee to get 40 steals? Gardner. Yeah. Brett Gar, what year? I was going to say,
can you, you want to try and guess the year? Tough. Up the ante a lot. Uh, 2012. Wow. Very
close. 2011. Dirty man. 49 that year. That guy. Forget how much a stolen base. Pretty good year.
Uh, and then, yeah, this, this one's just for me and I'm sure our social team won't clip it or
anything, but like you, me in the wall, does Raphael catch that ball? Uh, I don't know.
And I'm, I'm trying, like, I'm being as honest as I can in real time. I thought he did first
replays. I thought he did. Then they showed the zoomed in on the video board and I'm like, Oh,
that's going to stand. And I think standing is the right call. I know. And I get mad at
the league sometimes when they just stand, everything stands. Like, you know, I told him,
I don't like that guy is blue. Sometimes it's an awful reach to say that stands. So that was my
take, you know, before the ruling came back, my, like, that was the sequence of my thoughts of
like real time. I think I thought he caught it watching the replay. Uh, I think he caught it
then seeing that closeup one. Ooh, I think the stance that's kind of was my flurry of
thoughts and emotions. Nice. Worked out well for the Yankees. Yeah. Yeah. All right.
Enjoy the West coast. All right. Thanks guys. Bye. All right. Time to make our same game parlay
picks for tonight's game presented by fanatic sports and casino. You can make your own same
game parlay by picking multiple legs from tonight's game and combine them into one bet.
Or you can tail our picks right in the fanatic sports and casino app. We're going for it. Garrett
back home against the halos. Uh, we're going for the case. We haven't, we haven't done this one
yet. Uh, we're going over seven and a half. So hopefully he gets that, uh, fourth inning or so.
Uh, we're going to go Yanks to win minus one and a half. I mean, after last night's law,
you got to bounce back. You got to believe. And then, uh, they're facing gray rod,
a bad numbers verse lefties. I'll go Luis Garcia jr. Two total bases. That gives you a nice plus
700. That's a nice number. You need two good guys to be good and then beat a bad team. All right.
From the first pitch to the final out, come see why winning hits different at fanatic sports and
casino. There you have it. That was Aaron Boone manager of the New York Yankees in a
conversational mood, Jake. I thought he gave us a lot of, um, that's what I want it to be
talking about the defense and, and, uh, and the covering and throw and the throwing balls around.
He wasn't really, uh, closed off or defensive, like even saying spring training. Why don't you
guys practice more in a way? And he's like, yeah, that's fair. Like that's fair to say after spring
training, you're tightened up. I thought he would shut that down and be like, you know,
will we practice all the time? He's a professional, but no. So, um, I don't know. I thought that was
one of the more open conversations he's had with us on a lot of topics we wanted to have,
whether you liked the answer or not, I thought he engaged in all of the conversations.
Obviously people aren't going to like Grisham answer that he just want, you know, believes
that it will come in another stretch and help out. And he's it's, and he's the best option
and center. I think that tells you what they think of Spencer Jones in centerfield, even though
we haven't seen it be a crazy issue. He made a couple of misplays now in the corners. Maybe
they're saying if he was the everyday center fielder, that's what they think would be happening.
Cause that's what he said. We think he's the best option centerfield defensively right now.
So that's just more, I think that's what they think about Jonesy, which I don't know.
Yeah. I, I, I think that's a little bit of buying time. Um, you know, if it's, if it's one number,
if it's DRS, you can be like, oh, well, you know, the OAA is there. Okay. The OAA is not there in
the DRS. Okay. Well he's, you know, Trent, when he's locked in at the plate, he's a really tough
out. It's like a lot of the hitting stats are tough. So it's on every front, it's not passing
the eye test. And I, the thing I'll say again, with the lack of position versatility, which I
don't know if that's the Yanks Trent or whatever got them into that position. And Trent has had
moments of clutch. And I don't know if that's him being a no pulse guy. And part of the reason the
team loves Trent is because of the no energy, no emotion stuff, which can drive you drive you
equally as nuts. I think, I think there's buying time to it. I think, you know, the Yankees know
all of the numbers and I don't know how many are banging the table for Trent still. I think
offensively they are. They, they believe in his offensive profile. I don't think they are
defensively. And this is a team that we've seen them bring in Harrison Bader types. We've seen
them bring in defenders to like finish out games and the season that it'll be intriguing to see
how they handle it when the big fella is back. Yep. So when judge comes back and think about
that, think about how quickly things happen in baseball in one week, Trent could be our hottest
hitter. Yeah. Like we're playing the angels, uh, San Diego and then Colorado. They're like
that, that can change quickly and we can feel different about things. Uh, the other side of
that is, man, uh, Spencer Jones is playing really well that at a certain point push can come to
shove that if Trent is playing poorly and Spencer Jones is on the bench, I mean, things will get
loud really quickly. Eight left. He's in tonight. What order do you think he has him in? Uh, yeah,
gray rod splits before the game lefties are lefties are mashing him. I would say that it is
Ben Rice, Cody Bellinger, Luis Garcia, Jr. Trent Grisham, uh, jazz Chisholm, Spencer Jones,
cabby, Austin Wells, gotta be a McMahon. The only thing he can, oh, McMahon's back.
Yeah. The only thing he could do is move cabby up a little. So it's
just a different gap. Oh, you gotta, you gotta think about the way he's told us this before
this thing about the guys who would be pinch hit for. Okay. Then they're going to be in a lane
that would break up. You're not going to, if there's four lefties that don't get pinch hit
for it all, he wouldn't, he, he told us he would not try to put them in the same lane.
Right. So if you go rice Ballinger Garcia, whoever's the fourth is going to be a lefty
that maybe Jones gets pinch hit for by Rosario Ramos. So that would be maybe Jones Jones numbers
versus lefties are pretty good. Yeah. But I, and jazz, is he going to get pinch hit for,
you know, Wells is, but he'll be back there at nine. It gets tricky. McMahon, they pinch hit
for him. They would, but now you need to get him away from Caballero and how much lineup
stuff are you really going to do for that?
Lombard can't get into night and that's putting Rosario into the game. Yep. Yeah. Rose, I think
Rosario is in this game. It's just, does he replace jazz at second or McMahon at third,
but one or jazz, if it's a close game, right. One or jazz or McMahon gets pinch hit for,
they've been pretty steady with that. So two of their lefty options to pull there.
What about, um, what about the angels relievers? They got lefties.
They, yeah, they're kind of the bottom of the, their top two are righties.
Saucito is a lefty pitch yesterday, but he can go again. All right. Interesting.
Yeah. Hey, if you're playing, you're playing eight lefties, that's a lineup you're playing
to win the game early in the first five innings. Yeah. The score fingers crossed that they can.
That'd be great. Get crooked. Oh, that'd be great. Okay. That's a reminder for everyone
that my sophomore year of college shout out. I lived in a suite with a gentleman named Kazu
Hayota, who was an exchange student. And he used to say crooked as crooked. And I always liked
that. I miss him. I miss him. That's what, um, yeah, no, my kids say the opposite. Forget.
Like if you say, well, I can't think of a word with ed at the end,
but they say snooped. They're like hitting the E they, yeah. They add it, which I think
blows my mind. Yeah. Book it. Yeah. Yeah. Or, uh, uh, scared. They would say scared,
you know, stuff, stuff like that, which blows my mind because I'm like,
that sounds like someone who knows how to read and they're phonetically doing it.
Like sound like second language, but it's not. And they never hear anyone say it their whole life.
So there's some like baby linguistic answer to this of like, why do toddlers not do it fluidly?
Because to me, it's like, that's someone like second language that can read the words, but
sounding it out. So all my baby linguists reach out and jump. Let me know in the comments up here.
Yeah. Really scared me. Yeah. Bye. Go Yanks. Tom grams. Oh, Yankees hit it. She hit it to me.
That's the easiest one. That's good. Drop the ball.
