Mackall 45 Review: GORUCK’s Best Rucking Shoe Yet?

Hello and welcome. Today I want to talk to you about these McCall 45 shoes that I received from GORUCK. They are the latest addition to GORUCK's arsenal as far as footwear. They were released about a week ago. I got these sent to me a few weeks ago in order to give them a try, put my thoughts down together and share that information with you today. I have a lot of products and gear from GORUCK. Been super satisfied with them over the last 15, 16 years since I've been buying their products. And these McCall 45 shoes are no different. High quality, lot of work and thought went into the build. And the final product is something that is very sought after, especially by those of us that have put in plenty of miles and truly know the value of great footwear and gear. I was impressed with the shoes right from the unboxing. I like the look of them, has that retro look. I like the build. They're bulky, they're built to last. They can handle anything that you're gonna incur as far as terrain and weather on a Ruck. Keeping you performing at your optimal ability as well as keeping you safe by handling terrain change, weather, slippage. Soon as I received these shoes in the mail, since it was early on in the day, I needed to take my dog for a walk. So of course I wanted to test these out, put them on so I could start gathering information for my review. Well, just like other footwear, as far as boots that I own from Go Ruck, I was able to receive them in the mail, put on a pair of socks, put these on, went out for a three mile walk with my dog and my feet felt great. No hotspots, no blisters. So what does that mean to you? What that means to you is there really isn't a break in period when it comes to these shoes. Now that being said, everything is different. There could be a manufacturer defect, something like that. So I definitely suggest, you know what? If you're gonna go out, go out for a mile, mile and a half, test out your shoes, see what they're all about, make sure that there's no issues. But as far as my experience, I was able to just slip them on, tie up the laces, head out on the trail with my dog and experience a great deal of comfort with each passing step. A couple of things when it comes to shoes, especially if you've been following my channel, I prefer minimalist type shoes, meaning two specific things, a wide toe box and a zero drop heel. The good thing about these shoes is that they do have a wide toe box. So that way your toes aren't all scrunched up in there and tightened up, gives them the ability to splay, feel a lot more comfortable, keeping your natural movement. As far as the drop on the sole, these offer a 12 millimeter drop. That being said, zero drop shoes are not for everybody. Another cool thing about these shoes is you could tell just by the material, the more that you're gonna use them, the more that they break in, the better that they're actually gonna look over time. And considering that these are built to last, you're definitely gonna get quite a few miles out of these shoes and mark my words, they will look better over time. Speaking of the look, I really like this retro look. What's cool about it is you could be out on the trail, doing your rock, doing your hike, get done with that, throw on some casual clothes and head to the local bar or local cafe without missing a beat and still looking pretty good. I do do a lot of cycling, so I like the fact that the soles have these lugs, which work perfectly with my pedals, keeping me stable on the bicycle so that my feet do not slip off the pedals. So let's get into some of the specs on these McCall 45s. The upper material is premium pigskin nubuck suede and full grain cow leather. The lining is ultra synthetic suede. The midsole is low durometer, shock absorbing EVA response foam. The outsole is triple compound, high traction rubber. The insert is a custom dual density comfort insert. When it comes to weight, the shoes that I have are a men's US size 12 and they weigh in at about 13 ounces, which is really, really light for this type of shoe construction and support that it provides. The heel to toe drop is 13 millimeters. The footbed is neutral last with a wide toe box. The lacing system is classic punch eyelets with premium flat woven athletic laces for a clean, secure fit. Durability and airflow, double stitch toe and heel caps with strategic vamp micro perforations for maximum ventilation. They've been thoroughly tested on various rucks.
