The Vancouver Canucks have a golden opportunity heading into the 2025 draft as Craig Bunn of TSN has linked them to possibly the biggest steal heading into this summer with them linked to draft Cole Reschney of Victoria.
This would change everything for the Vancouver Canucks heading into the future and we're going to break down all this, exactly who Cole Reschney is and why you should be excited.
But before we get into that, if you're enjoying this Canucks content and you want to stay up to date on everything to do with Canucks prospects, trade rumors, and everything in between, make sure to go down and hit that subscribe button.

But with that Griffin, we've got to hop straight into the first topic today where we did see a report coming out from Craig Bunn of TSN breaking down his mock draft for the top 16 picks in the NHL draft with the draft lottery being set.
We know sadly the Vancouver Canucks did not move up from pick 15, but with this, we can break down where they're projected to draft.
Now with this, Cole Reschney at number 15 is from Victoria, WHL, and is looking like an absolute steal, I mean looking at Scott Wheeler going into it.
He says meet Cole Reschney, the hottest prospect in 2025, he stirs the drink.
Now just throwing it to you Griffin, he's been dominant with WHL, 92 points in 62 games, 66 assists.
What is your thoughts on the Canucks being linked to what could be the absolute steal of the draft?
The two-way player that they exactly need in this scenario, I know that everyone's been talking about the JT Miller thing,
and now they have a chance to find a player who can fill in that gap, not right away, but in a few seasons, as a two-way player who can get those 80, 90 points,
and not just by scoring goals and not just by harboring assists, by doing both of them and being a great linemate for these guys that need an extra jolt of offense and opportunity.
We've seen that happen over and over with the Canucks throughout the last season, where we had a lot of goal scorers that had career years,
but when you look at those against other teams, those are maybe like top 5, top 6, top 7 numbers for most teams,
when you look at our top goal scorers this season, mainly because we didn't score a lot of goals in a lot of games,
and even the games that we won weren't a lot of high-scoring games.
So with that, Vancouver needs a jolt of some sorts, and again, if it's not right away, in a few seasons or so, it will be the case if this kid is able to make that jump.
And with that, I think he can go on some lines with some guys that maybe aren't the strongest of goal scorers, or maybe aren't the strongest of players,
and he can help elevate those guys to making sure they can get those opportunities to score goals.
You put him on a line with someone like Teddy Bluger, or not necessarily Teddy Bluger, sorry, he's a center, but Drew O'Connor,
you put him in there with some other guys, Kiefer Sherwood, and Dakota Joshua as well,
where we saw Dak have kind of a down year, got going here and there with some spurts,
but you put him on there with a linemate who knows how to give him greater opportunities while also scoring as well to take some pressure and tension off of him,
that's something that I think the Canucks can really utilize moving forward for the future.
And I mean, listen, a center, 5'11", he's worked on so much.
The big thing is he's improved his defense, one of the best face-off guys in the WHL this year,
and I mean, just taking some quotes from his coach, Whit Victoria, he said,
I will say this, I don't know a player in our league who had a better second half than him.
And I know there's not a lot of players that I can think of who played better in the playoffs.
He put this team on his back, and his playmaking complete were elite.
This is a kid that feels like a jack-of-all-trades.
He's worked on his defense tremendously throughout this season.
We do know he needs to work on his transition game,
but overall, he feels like one of the most complete guys, minus the top guys in Mesa and Schaefer.
And these guys coming through seems like an absolute steal if the Canucks can snag him down here.
Now, I mean, listen, Craig Funn goes in to project him going there.
He's coming off a strong WHL season.
The 18-year-old had 26 points, 92 points in 62 games, 117 points in 73 combined playoff and regular season.
He has been outstanding.
He came fresh off a Canada win in the U18 World Juniors as well in Texas.
Where we actually did see Jim Rutherford speak on saying that Patrick Albion was down there scouting him,
so there is a connection.
He got to watch him a lot.
But listen, Griffin, we know this team needs a center desperately.
That is exactly what the Canucks have been looking for since moving on from J.T. Miller.
Phillip Hilo did look good, went down with an injury, and we didn't see the full potential with him yet.
But what is your thoughts on just the Canucks maybe going out and listening?
You want to draft the best player available.
If there's a top defenseman, if Schaefer drops,
yes, take him at number 15.
But do you like the idea of the Canucks going out, prioritizing a center in the draft?
Absolutely, because we know that that's a point of weakness that they want to emphasize.
And when you look at our game stats throughout the course of the season,
faceoff circle post J.T. Miller trade was not very good.
And it dipped even more so once Petey got hurt,
because he was really starting to turn it on in the faceoff circle once he started finding his game a bit more.
And he kind of got back to winning more faceoffs than not,
and being very elite in the faceoff before that unfortunate injury that ended his season.
So you have him coming back, just trying to fill in that void.
But when he was gone, Pew Sooter, he was solid as a number one center,
except in the faceoff circle for the most part.
So you bring in a guy who can make sure that, yeah, we're winning more faceoffs than losing,
and especially when we're in offensive zones, and we need to get a quick play with some separation.
Or we're in defensive zones, and we need to get the puck out of there and just clear it.
That's something that'll be very key for the Canucks going forward.
And yes, again, this is something where if he's ready to go right off the bat as a first-round pick,
throw him in there, feed him to the wolves, and see how he can do.
But other than that, I think this is going to be something that could be a waiting period.
But as we've seen with Manny Malhotra working his magic in Abbotsford,
we've seen a lot of guys that he's been able to get NHL-ready,
and they've made that jump, and some of them even found permanent roster spots on this team next year.
And I mean, listen, if Manny Malhotra wants to work with this kid,
if the Canucks do go out and get this steal of a pick, that could be big.
I mean, a lot of people are rejecting him in different places.
I think going into the draft, Craig Button has him at number 11.
If the Canucks can get him at 15, that would be insane.
A lot of guys have him in the middle to late first rounds.
So if the Canucks can go into this, but Craig Button continues on.
With Krol Reshny, you're not going to get a lot of flash and dash.
You're going to get a massive productivity from him in every single area of the game.
He makes everyone around him better as well as the team.
This is what you like to see from a young kid coming into the draft.
With this, this is showing character employees of someone 18 years old,
not the biggest guy, 5'11", 183 pounds, but if he's going to compete on every single level,
this does change the entire franchise.
And listen, this is a big question as well, Griffin.
We know what the Canucks, they need a center.
Right now, Katie Fusuta is set to hit free agency.
But what is your thoughts on the possibility?
We're going to do a full video on the Canucks possibly moving the pick,
but what's your thoughts on the Canucks maybe making a package,
trading for a ready to go right now center?
I think that's going to be something that the Canucks definitely consider
because we know that Quinn Hughes is basically on a ticking time bomb right now
with his contract expiring and the likelihood of him coming back
unless the Canucks can do something.
We don't want to be in rebuild mode, so yes, while it does make sense to go get a prospect
who would be an absolute steal of a pick,
you could want to try and flip that into a win now mode instead of win later.
And that's how you'll keep Quinn Hughes happy and stay in Vancouver
as well as some of these other guys.
I know Connor Garland is one where he's going to be a free agent after next season.
He might want to go wherever talk it goes.
That's going to be a very big thing for Canucks fans to watch out for.
That is a massive iceberg that I don't think we're talking about enough.
I think the other thing too is like Quinn Hughes, where you have some other guys, PD as well.
If the Canucks continue to falter and go into a rebuild mode,
it's just going to add more and more pressure and more noise on PD to perform
when he might not have the pieces around him to do so.
So if you can go out and get a guy who's ready at center,
get some pressure relief off of him and just make sure that you can contribute
to this whole team as a collective instead of just trying to build for one piece for the future.
I think that's something where Patrick Elving and Jim are going to be looking at it going.
Maybe let's consider it.
And I mean, Canucks fans, what's your thoughts on this?
Would you like to go out and get Cole in this draft?
Would this be a pick that you'd like to package together to get a ready-to-go second center
to come right in and make an immediate impact?
