Just Oats & Chia Seeds! The Healthiest Snack You’ll Make This Week❗️

These homemade oat and chia crackers are the kind of simple, wholesome snack that makes you wonder why you ever bought crackers from the store. Made mainly with just rolled oats and chia seeds, they come together with a handful of basic ingredients and very little preparation, yet the result is wonderfully crisp, light and full of flavour. They are perfect for everyday snacking, dipping, or serving alongside your favourite spreads.
What makes these crackers especially appealing is how simple the ingredient list is compared with many packaged crackers. Instead of relying on a long list of ingredients, these homemade crackers start with whole rolled oats and chia seeds, then use a little seasoning to add flavour. You also have complete control over what goes into them, making them a delicious alternative when you want a more wholesome homemade snack.
Both oats and chia seeds bring valuable nutrients to your diet. Oats provide fibre, including beta-glucan, as well as vitamins, minerals and plant-based protein, while chia seeds are particularly rich in fibre and provide plant-based omega-3 fatty acids, along with minerals such as calcium and magnesium. Including a variety of fibre-rich whole foods and nutrient-dense seeds as part of a balanced diet can help make everyday meals and snacks more satisfying and nutritious.
And the texture is what really makes these crackers special: once baked until crisp, they have a lovely crunch and a subtle savoury herb flavour. Enjoy them with hummus, tzatziki, guacamole, your favourite dip, or simply on their own. They are easy enough to make whenever a crunchy snack craving hits!
Instructions:
Blend the rolled oats into a fine flour, or use ready-made oat flour.
Mix the chia seeds with water, cover and let them soften for 15–30 minutes.
Add the oat flour, salt, baking powder and oregano, then stir until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms. Add a little extra oat flour if needed.
Let the dough rest for 10–15 minutes while preparing the tray and preheating the oven to 340°F (175°C).
If the dough feels sticky when shaping the rounds, rub a drop of olive oil over your palms to make the dough much easier to handle.
Divide the dough into approximately 30 equal portions, using about ½ tablespoon for each, and roll them into small rounds. Arrange them on a parchment-lined 37 x 25 cm (14.5 x 10 in) tray, leaving enough space between them.
Cover each round with an approximately 8 x 8 cm piece of parchment and press with the flat base of a large glass until the dough is about 5 mm thick and evenly round.
Bake for 15 minutes at 340°F (175°C), then flip each cracker.
Bake for another 15 minutes at 340°F (175°C), or until crisp to your liking.
Avoid over-baking because the crackers will continue to harden while cooling.
Cool completely before serving.
