AI GeneratedSteve Cochran delivers a scathing critique of House Speaker Mike Johnson, labeling him an incompetent leader and a \"sellout\" to Donald Trump. Cochran argues that Johnson lacks integrity, operates as a political shield for Trump, and is struggling to maintain control amidst internal Republican revolts and public scrutiny.
Uh-oh, looks like somebody got up on the wrong side of the crib this morning.
Oh boy, Mike Johnson, Speaker of the House, blowing off a legitimate question from Manu
Raju of CNN. Look, we'll get back to that first. Let me say hi, I'm Steve Cochran.
This is the Cochran Show on Really American, and I'm really glad you're here,
and I'm glad I'm here. Breaking news as we started to record this today.
One is Mike Johnson sent Congress home. Seems he's got a revolt on his hands with the Republicans
who are worried they're not going to be able to get reelected to their seats because of his
shoddy leadership. So he said, go home. That leaves one week of session before the election,
which is perfect for this, this Trumplican party. They like to hide how bad things are going.
Secondarily, Maria Bartiromo, the money honey from Fox News and Fox Business is out.
Unexplained reason, she's been gone since, I guess, early August, and she's no longer on the
air. I'm going to go with stealing office supplies. I mean, that seems to be the way that most of us
are let go. Now, I've been fired 10, 11, 12 times, and one was just based on Post-it notes. So
good luck, Maria. I don't know you, but I wish you well. All right, let's get back to this now.
First of all, the suck ups and the kiss ups of Washington, D.C. are legendary. As a matter of
fact, I believe D.C. stands for dignity compromised. And in this case, it's not easy to be
Mike Johnson because you've got to agree with every stupid thing that comes out of President
Trump's mouth. That makes for a long day every day. I'm not saying I feel sorry for him. I'm
saying he's a damn fool. Nobody in my lifetime has done less of a job that he was put in that
position to do. Nobody's done less for America and nobody's done more to ruin their own personal
reputation than Speaker Mike Johnson. His good old boy Southern charm act didn't last very long.
And his leaning on religion, that doesn't work either. As a matter of fact, when he talks about
the good book and relates it to more money for the Defense Department, Chris Cuomo never short
of an opinion himself. Yeah, he's not buying it, Chris. Mike Johnson, who rules by the good book,
must have skipped a few pages. He says the Pentagon needs 350 gazillion dollars
because they need to fight communism on our shores. You bullshit propagandist,
Mike Johnson, you bullshit faux Christian. Man, you are not ruling by the good book.
You just lied your ass off. Yes, the path of Mike Johnson. Well, it's been a rocky one.
He came as a nobody from Louisiana, a congressman nobody had heard of and with a name that was
pretty bland as well. Shows up and it was kind of a three phase breakout. It started out as a
constitutional professorial lawyer type who seemed he was there to bring up constitutional arguments
to protect his criminal client. Not technically his client, the president. But you know, these
are all gray lines in the world of Donald Trump. Second, the whining began. The whining was heavy
and often about Trump being persecuted. And Mike Johnson was ready to jump in on that.
And phase three, he never saw it. He'd get asked a question by a reporter and he'd go,
I'm busy. You know, I travel all the time. The speaker's job, really, it's a lot. It's a lot.
And so he didn't see it. Look, let's be honest. There's dishonesty. There's misdirection. What's
the word I'm looking for? Oh, yeah, he's a liar. He's an incompetent liar. He has zero integrity.
He's a complete sellout. And this is not just about backstopping every Trump lie that comes
along. He couldn't even bring himself to fight for an abused family. There's lots of ways to
answer the question you're about to see in this clip. He doesn't seem to hit on any of them.
This is Dasha Burns from Politico and Speaker Johnson. Watch.
But he poured hot water on her, held a gun to her head, broke their daughter's collarbone.
Miller has, of course, denied these allegations. But today he said on CNN that you are, quote,
standing behind him. Are you? I haven't spoken to Max in a few days. I've been
traveling nonstop and haven't had an opportunity to do that.
I think what Max is suggesting there is that I've been intellectually consistent,
always have, since before I became speaker and certainly over the last almost three years.
This applies equally to Republicans and Democrats. We don't take disciplinary action against members
for allegations. He's vehemently denying this. It's, in his own words, a nasty
divorce proceeding. And it's gotten ugly and it's gotten public. But he's saying the same
things privately to members that he is publicly, that he denies all this and he thinks it's a
hit job on him. Yes, he can't even fight for an abused family. And while he's failing and flailing
at this very big job, it pays to know the history of the Speaker of the House to begin with.
It was not always second in line to the presidency. As a matter of fact, that's a
fairly recent development in historical terms. The vice president comes second, of course,
and then next up would be the Speaker of the House. Think about that for a second.
You got J.D. Vance and you got Mike Johnson. Oh, yeah, I'd get rid of Trump tomorrow,
but boy, that's a political Sophie's choice, the follow-up to be sure.
Harry Truman is the guy to put this into play. President Truman, after FDR died,
spent quite a few months without a vice president and was concerned about the line of succession
if something were to happen to him. So in 1947, he got a presidential act of succession passed
and that moved the Speaker of the House up to the second position right after vice president.
That's a big damn deal. And that was Harry Truman's idea.
So being Mike Johnson in general, it's got to be exhausting. But as we continue this deep
dive into the little Mikey, let's go to MS Now for a conversation where he was talking
to representative, Democratic representative Madeline Dean. Now listen closely to what
Johnson says here. The conversation is about how unhinged the president is. Listen to Johnson's
response. The president is unhinged. He is unwell. What are you doing on your side?
Oh, my God, please. That performance in front of the generals. That is so dangerous.
If that's not I know you are. But what am I? I've never seen Peewee Herman.
Well, your people are unhinged, too. It's not just President Trump. It's just embarrassing.
But maybe these times are changing because it does seem to be there are some cracks,
some fissures, if you will, in the Mike Johnson. Trump's always right. Bullshit parade.
As a matter of fact, I see Johnson now going to the wasn't me defense much more often.
This next clip, it's a long question, but a worthy one, which lays out the recent crimes
that have gone on in the Trump administration and the incompetence of Congress.
But listen again. Listen to Mike Johnson's answer. You were on recess. The war in Iran
has escalated at this podium in March. You said that it would be over in short order.
In addition to that war escalating, we are now in a greater trade war with Canada,
usually are one of our greatest trading partners. In addition, the president has angered cattlemen
throughout the country by bringing in imports. And they still say even today that they are
concerned about their livelihood because of his views. I know he's tried to mitigate them.
In addition, he has tried to change the name of a Great Lake and threatened to demolish the
Kennedy Center. Are these moves that you support? And do you understand Republicans, some of whom
I just spoke to, who said these hurt your chances and they think voters do not like them?
So there's three branches of government and the federal government, right? There's an executive
and we operate the legislative. We try to coordinate as best we can because we have
a unified government. Of course, the voters gave us a mandate in 2024. They give us a White House,
Senate and the House. I've talked with the president very often, sometimes multiple times
a day. I talked to him about an hour and a half ago. He called me about things happening today.
And I give my counsel and we have discussion about these things. And he takes counsel from
a multitude of people. And that's what a president is supposed to do.
The executive branch is doing their thing. We're doing our thing.
That's right. They're doing their thing and we're doing ours. That's great. That's a confidence
builder. It just goes without words to say that Mike Johnson is an abject failure at the job he's
supposed to be doing when he's getting more desperate. Matter of fact, quite desperate.
Here we've got him addressing a bunch of big dollar Republican donors trying to reinforce
the idea that they're going to win the midterms. They're going to be okay. Mikey.
If we were to lose the midterms, heaven forbid, these Democrats,
y'all impeachment's not even the big concern. They will turn every committee of Congress into
an investigative body and they'll go after the president's family, the cabinet, his donors and
friends. Half of you in this room will be targeted. I run the protection program. I'll
take care of you, okay? We're going to win. We're going to win the midterm, okay?
I love that one. Investigations, Jim Comer and Jim no jacket Jordan spend thousands and thousands
and thousands of hours and hundreds of millions of dollars on Hunter Biden and the Biden family.
I'm surprised they didn't roll into the Hillary server again. And you know what they got back?
Nothing. Zero. They threw out a bunch of subpoenas. They weren't able to indict the
president. They weren't able to indict anybody. They couldn't indict a ham sandwich as the cliche
goes. So what do you have? You've got again, a massive failure and the it's not us. It's them
defense where Mike Johnson is basically begging these Republican donors not to bail on him.
I love the idea that he's their protection. You know what? I look at guy, a guy like this,
a physical specimen like Mike Johnson. I don't think Tony Soprano is so much as I think Urkel
more so at least anyway. So let's go back to where we started. I showed you a little teaser
clip at the top of Mike Johnson snapping at Manu Raju. And maybe this is the best example yet
of the fact that Johnson is a, he's on the verge of breaking and he's not just going to bend over
and say, thank you, sir. May I have another to Donald Trump? So let me play the full clip for
you. There's a thing called a walk and talk. You see it on, I guess the West wing was probably
famous for these, but in the news game, they're walking through the aisles of Congress. Congress,
people are being disrespectful to reporters and blowing off and not answering questions.
By the way, both parties do that. But in this case, Mike Johnson gets asked a legitimate
question by Manu Raju, just doing his job. And here's how it goes on. You said repeatedly that
this war was going to be over soon. You said that this would be a temporary blip on short term on
gas prices. It is more than six months. People are getting hurt still at the pump.
Should the American people not also judge you on your projections here that were clearly off base?
Manu, that is one of the stupidest questions you've ever asked. I have nothing to do with
the prosecution of the war across the globe. You are responsible. You're selling this to the
American public, are you not? So should the house speaker be held responsible for the duration of a
military conflict around the globe? You answer that question. I mean, you called this a short
scrimmage. It is costing billions of dollars. So what's the future for Mike Johnson? Well,
possibly the Mount Rushmore of suck ups. Let's take a look at the three most immediate comes
to mind sort of suck ups for me anyway. You got Gary from Veep. Selena Meyer was not nice to Gary
and he loved her. He'd do anything for her. And then, of course, Smithers. Mr. Burns was awful
to Smithers and yet he showed up every day. And Hank Kingsley, you know, Hank was kind of a dick,
but Larry wasn't so nice to him either. Talking about Larry Sanders in the classic HBO show.
So is there room for a fourth head on the Mount Rushmore of suck ups? If so,
I'd be reserved for Mike Johnson. After all, by now he's probably removed all the mirrors in his
house because his image doesn't show up on any of them. He has led the district of Columbia
in selling out. Where does he go from here? But I'm glad you're here and I appreciate your support
of everything done on the really American and then raw American and well, all the sister
networks, really their brother networks, too. We'd love for you to subscribe to
Substack really American and Substack. Make sure you do that. The support really matters.
And in addition to that, you're going to not miss a single note of what we're doing
here because we're going to keep you informed and remind you. November 3rd is election day.
That's a Tuesday. You cannot miss. They're going to show up. And if you don't show up and vote,
we don't need that. Let's not even go down that road. You have to vote. Make your plans. Now,
no excuses. Tuesday, November 3rd. My name is Steve Cochran. I thank you for watching
and listening. I'll see you next time here on the Cochran show on a really American.
God bless America. God help America. Good God.
