Scientists Finally Scanned What's Under Göbekli Tepe - And What It Hid Was Chilling

For thirty years, entire slopes of the most important prehistoric site on Earth were never scanned by any method, and the reason is almost absurd. Olive trees. Farmers had planted them before anyone understood what was under the hill, and ground-penetrating radar needs unobstructed surface contact, so the roots and trunks and canopy physically stopped the equipment from ever reaching that ground. While eight competing theories about this place were argued in journals and documentaries worldwide, two faces of the mound had simply never been looked at. In this one I go through what happened when the trees came down in twenty twenty five and the scanners finally went in. Three categories of structure on the eastern and southern slopes. More circular monumental enclosures matching the famous ones. Smaller buildings that look domestic, confirming independently what the northern sector survey had already suggested. And a large building of unknown function matching no architectural type ever documented here, which matters because every single existing theory assumed this site was circular enclosures and nothing else. They also measured the site boundary for the first time in its research history, and it is bigger than anyone had confirmed. The scanning is trustworthy too, because in two thousand and seven a cloverleaf shaped anomaly in the radar data was dug and turned out to be Enclosures H and I, exactly where predicted. Around two hundred carved pillars are still underground. And the oldest layer is the most monumental, which means the deepest material is likely the most impressive.
