EP. 1: How to Get CLEAN & STRAIGHT Parts Every Time
Clean braids start with clean parts! In Episode 1 of my Parting Series, I’m breaking down how to get your parts clean, straight, and consistent without overcomplicating it.

So the biggest complaint or struggle that I get from braiders is they can't part.
And most of the time, the first problem is the comb. That is the main thing that you need to
part. So if that is not right, everything else after that is failing. So we're not using big
combs to part anything like wide teeth, rounded edges, that is not going to get us a part.
You need a parting comb or something with a sharp tip to get a clean part. Now this edge brush I do
like because the tip is very pointed and it gets really clean parts. So find you a comb with a nice
tip. So I like to buy these parting combs and they're still a tad bit rounded. So what I do
is take my nail file and I just go across the tip a little bit. Now I don't want to
put a super sharp point on it where I'm going to be stabbing somebody in the head,
but I want it to be more pointed than rounded. So I take this little nail file and I just go around
it and point it, make it a little bit more pointy. And I'm going to make sure I take that file like
across the tip to make sure that it's not sharp. So poke your finger a little bit, make sure you're
not going to stab somebody in the head with it. Now the next thing about parting is the pin tail.
Make sure you have a good pin tail on your comb because that is what I use to get through
the bulk of hair. Now I'm not saying you have to take that little comb and comb through somebody
who has thick hair. That's not going to work. You can take a bigger comb to comb through or detangle,
but for parting, you want a good parting comb. So I use the pin tail end or the rat tail end
of a comb to get through bigger sections as you can see. And I'm using the big comb,
but you can also use the small one with the pin tail to get through bigger sections. And that's
how I make my initial part or what I call a base part. So I use that pin tail to make my base part
and then I go in with the tip and I'm going to clean up any parts that's off or any little hairs
I see that are not straight. I'm going to use the pointed end to clean up my part. Now doing this
will eliminate a lot of struggles with braiders not being able to part. Like I said, the main
problem I see is the comb. So try those few things first and let's see if your part comes out
much cleaner than it was before. Now you also want to make sure your client is holding their
head up straight so you can get a straight part of course. Now let me know in the comments if
