Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe reviewer evaluates bamboo recurve bows from Ulay Archery, praising their lightweight build and use of natural materials like maple and fish skin. While the bows are functional and offer good value, the reviewer warns of significant inconsistencies in quality control, specifically regarding inaccurate draw weight labeling and non-uniform craftsmanship across different units.
Morning! Remember all the review of this bow?
Lo and behold it's very easy I said it's hard to get hands on
it's it's very easy I read comments you just go on Taobao which everybody
outside of China is using you just need to speak a little Chinese
no problem then you can order this bow on Taobao
you just need to take care of the shipping then
to your place by yourself it's very convenient and it costs 270 dollars
I saw a post from Ulay archery and they had bamboo bows two
three different versions and they look kind of like similar
they come by the way with a sleeve they look kind of like similar and I needed
some with a long draw for a project so I ordered
directly four you can have them like this or in black
and they're set in three different lengths as you see in this photo
I ordered the long ones because I only can use
a longer draw bow for my project yet I made a mistake and I misread
or I did not read at all the the order confirmation
and on the order confirmation was written the shorter one
31 and a half inch draw and I did not read that and now I have four bows
they are too short for my project but still nice
so we will do a review today and I never sell them because they are not working
for my project I got four of them they are from
24 to 27 pounds because I don't need heavy bows
but I needed a little longer draw so 31 and a half is not enough you get a nice
bow a string and a sleeve the making is a
little bit different I mean you have the same kind of like
and we have three layers of I guess bamboo
so it's kind of not sure if it's the same bow builder or not
it's kind of like similar made but of course at the end you see this one
that's why it's not a symmetrical yumi as somebody mentioned because yumi's
don't have sears a yumi would have something like this
a little doubled up but not like a sear like this
uh so this is a little more rough and ready not so refined and we don't have a
yes this is just a whatever reflex deflex bow I would say
I can tell you something about it from ulay archery it's the
olabw03 they said there's a longer version which I
don't have the length is 152 centimeters or 60 inches
there's an extra of 80 centimeters of 31 and a half
and it costs 180 to 100 dollars plus I paid 125 for shipping yeah whatever
it's bamboo wood laminated recurve bamboo and
maple it's probably here in the handle part then we have cashew lacquer like
most probably the other one too rattan wrapping fish skin arrow pass
leather wrap handle which looks nice and a
chinese dyneema string whatever that means
chinese dyneema and I can't read the last one but I think it's different
colors or something so 200 dollars you get this bow
fine by me arrow pass is relatively wider than this one
29 millimeters fortunately the wrong bow for me
yeah you just need to read your order confirmations properly
and I ordered two in brown and two in black but then they didn't have the
back ones or whatever say the case in before
of them it's 61 from knock to knock can I tell you it's a nice three layered
four they have a bit more layers yeah yeah it's it's a bamboo bow don't
expect miracles
let's see one longer one short I don't know
we string it now like a normal longbow kit you need to play now
easier to string than the other one because we don't have that much flex
in the cedar so it's a little easier like a longbow oops that's not going to
work the other way around leather whipping at
the end looks good but I think for my taste
I mean it's nice because they do it directly as a string dampener which
makes most probably sense brace set looks nice now the other center serving
which is relatively short is in the right height
so the bow itself doesn't look bad has a little
almost like a korean here the brace set the other till is a little shorter than
here not sure if this is on purpose but the
bow overall looks good feels good so we have 335
grams so it's very lightweight that's nice
I wanted a long draw for my project and this one is now 31 and a half
yeah but it was nice so and we know that bamboo bows
like heat and humidity then they work better so most probably this bow will
open up a bit
31 and a half inch arrow exactly the right length for it
yeah you can manage but then you see string angle wise
so more I don't think so but I guess it has to be fine let's check the
poundage let's see to 28 is 24.5
I'm supposed to have 25 so that's fine 30 oops sorry didn't want to hurt you
oops 26.5 so one pound more no one and a half pound more
maybe two pounds more and let's see 31 and a half would be here
I'm not sure yet let's see
now works 29 pounds so it's a little stiff at the end as you
could expect arrow weight I don't know but I would guess
10 grain ish something and you should be good to go
no you think so too no let's see 31 and a half inch arrow grip is almost
like a yumi so maybe you could even torque it like a yumi
shoots nice has a little vibration even with 420 grain arrows
they are quite heavy but the draw not so bad we should light
weight arrows say I think 260 or something but they're a little too long
it's a bamboo bow it shakes a bit with lightweight arrows you feel it a bit
more Katra works so these lightweight arrows are
almost a bit too lightweight but it's fine you feel it in the hand so
more like with the other one handshake and the sound by far not as
nice as the other one so I said I'm not sure if it's the same
bow builder almost looks like but heavy arrows you see directly how they
drop but 420 grain is a little much for this
so most probably this one is to stop the string from vibrating and it's a
string dampener which makes sense is a little long it's a little unneeded
weight but this is a 25 pound bow anyway and you
can have it I don't even know the poundage is
so you need to ask ulay my friend ruby there she will tell you
it's well made you know you have all these nice wrappings here
it's like optically it's a nice bow and if this bow would draw a little
longer it would have worked for my project but here 31 is just
it's getting too stiff at the end I would need it a longer one
and I wish they would make hankyos in this style asymmetrical
this one asymmetrical maybe a little more refined on top
with a 35 inch draw then I would be a happy guy
and take down maybe then I would be completely happy for
180 dollars 200 dollars anytime the bow will show some string follow
even this one you string it and you unstring it and you see that the bow
doesn't go completely back to its original shape
it's normal sometimes after a few moments it goes back there and
sometimes you get stuck it's a natural material
you get but shooting so far is not so bad many of you asked in the comments
if one could use this one for three finger shooting
and I said yeah but it doesn't make sense because how I
shoot three fingers is middle finger corner of my mouth and I draw 28 inches
it doesn't make sense when you have a 35 inch draw bow
and you only draw 28 then somebody said yes but the war bow archers you know
they whatever yeah you can do this but
I think you might have unless you are a big guy with with
arms like a monkey you have a hard time drawing this in 35 inches
I think here this one comes into play 31 and a half when you take the longer one
maybe a bit more but this is overall way shorter I show
you you see it overall way shorter
we try to press that too but we have a little more flex in the handle
so that's why I think if you're looking for a bamboo bow
I guess with natural material so for your competitions and this one in three
fingers nice me and three fingers here you know
so the handle bends a little bit you feel it maybe but you can shoot this way
your three fingers what have you fine but I stick with thumb
so it draws nice so here it's not much going on and here it
starts linear and now it goes up so here 25 inches
it gets stiff stiff stiff stiff until here
it's about 32 31 and a half
it's not bad actually the draw is quite nice
didn't expect that it would have worked so nice a little longer draw
I guess I need to order a few more in the long version
so these ones are for sale if you're interested contact me
I will sell them but shipping is a hassle mind you
I'm not responsible for any hilarious shipping costs
anymore I paid 125 dollars and they shipped via
train so it took five weeks six weeks or something
and then it's fine but with plane it's just hilarious
it's not bad and just know it's not a speed monster by any means
any stretch so we have 20 30 pounds and 410 grain so you know you're
36 as expected
132
132 and the lightweight ones 260 56 but then you feel it in the hand so
something in between would be nice it's 56 153
so a good 150 maybe 160 more likely 150 but for a bowl like this
it's not bad and it's 25 pounds in a heavier poundage most probably you
get a little more out of it because here you lose quite a lot
through the mass with a little more poundage most probably you can compensate
for that
and for the one who mentioned last time that i had the second arrow
wrong on it and i thought what i had them on the outside then he meant now
the old feather on the first arrow was outside
but on the second arrow the old feather was inside
doesn't make a difference at least for me when i shoot feathers and
to my catra and whatever so old feather for me
it's not an issue when you see my own arrows always have
four fletchings because no matter how i knock the arrow
it will always be right in place
heavy arrows but they're nice so i would use a little heavy arrows maybe you want
to get even bamboo arrows lightweight ones or
speaking of bamboo arrows
420 is a little too heavy for this one
i think 350 or something would be just fine
but have a 250 for three finger shooting
but it works with this one three fingers it's nice
so you have here a little reserve if you want to draw a bit more
but not 35 inches so for three finger shooters or if you want to change a
little thumb a little three finger or maybe even slavic
if i wish i knew how heavy i think they're 400
slavic maybe slavic for the horse archers
works nice too so with this bow you can do everything
25 pounds is a nice training bow so if you don't like the plastic or the fiber
glassy ones you want some natural material
here you go bamboo and a little maple what do you say maple i think
nice leather handle the handle is for me a little thin
and bends a little bit but it's fine and as i said you can
over grip and do your torque almost like you do with your
yumi
this bow is just i think enough torque resistant at least in this part
here i over grip the bow a little bit build up and look what the bow is doing
boom goes automatically there so you can even with whatever but
you know that better than me i have no idea build quality is good
there's nothing to complain there's a nice
shaped they could be a little more refined so for me
for a 25 pound bow they are quite thick longbows
in american longbows they are half the size here and 50 pounds
so this one could be a little more thin then this edge could be maybe a little
more rounded here i see that the string is here
quite in there so but you can do it yourself with a little sandpaper
get rid of this edge here and it's fine but
on the other side look it's just fine it does the job
and you have this nice whipping here of course you see the nodes of the bamboo
this is really nice i don't know if this bamboo is stripped
too like somebody mentioned on the other boat
i stripped the outer layer of the bamboo which is the best part of the bamboo i
have no idea i was just asking how about you know
speak your chinese or whatever and then you'll get there no
problem let's see if the bow too long for using it kneeling
the longer one is a little bit but this one is a bit shorter
so you could go here
yeah it works bottom has the size of a yung but the top
probably not something as you can put it down
not so bad
i might not sell them they work just nice
we need a little talk of my friends
actually we like it i have 24 to 27 pounds
see you hum with it and you get a satisfaction
but of course as always don't use these arrows from china with heat shrink look
what happened to this heat shrink it bulged up here because whatever
and then we need don't pay attention i mean you shoot a little wrong
this one keep me now here on my knuckle wouldn't have happened if this would be
flat here but this is just heat shrink is just
crap so i suppose when it gets a little warmer the bow will perform
even nicer but you see these arrows are 32
and a quarter because the shaft is 32 inches
see that there's no problem throwing back there so the bow opens up
nicely if it's warm it gets even more flexible i guess
nice a nice smooth release with a nice thumb ring you can do a little
you can do because i don't care i know it's pronounced
but i'm not my language my tongue is not arabic
sometimes i say things wrong and if you have nothing else to do
from the information of my video to when to point this out
be my guest same like you try with your native english tongue first time or the
if you don't pronounce it right you don't catch my problem it's all good
or there in my language
now we're talking but this bow is nice it's precise so
where your point the only with a low pound is you really need to care about
your release if you rip your finger off you will feel
initiate shot with your bow a really good bow
it's just a little too short for me so i guess i will order
the longer version looks even nicer here a bit more recurve
i think this is a little flat for my taste
but the bow works nicely so ulay archery they told me already i
should not promote this boat because i don't get
that many in stock same problem like with fengfei
but you can ask them and then maybe they can produce a few more or you need to
wait a little on your bows really nice i leave the link something
to ulay archery or you find them on facebook or something
in the video description so they add already all nice this fish skin
it's nice so that we get this kind of like almost now
like standard some said there is now a ray skin on it it's not
needed but it's okay i think for the ones who do gaoying
because gaoying said don't do katra might be useful so but of course if
you do gaoying and do katra then you don't do gaoying
then you don't need ray skin of course 33 and a half
so until here i would go see that so nice draw 28 29 30
so it's in the back it gets almost soft this is
the bamboo it's nice so there's no sticky
no nothing it's really nice i try not the other three if they are
the same the sleeves are a little pain in the ass
and sometimes you get it out of this
i don't like so you could find another option for the stream i guess
a nice option look at this mess here it's not nice
you know what i don't care i have two other ones
interesting thing is these bows are made on the same day the poundage is written
here the bow i showed you in the video made
on another day the poundage is written here and not here so i don't know why we
have here an inconsistency so this is the 24 pounds
nice too yeah nice too had a little cracking at the
beginning and this is a another 24 nice too so i think 32
31 nice 32 maybe but it gets stiff at the end which i don't like that's why i
longer draw you can draw nicely 32 here the 32
or 31 and a half gets stiff but still nice so
here you have it please work on how you store the string
and i like consistency so whoever makes these bows
if i order more i would like to have the whipping always in the same place
not one time here one time there one time there the shape of them is almost
similar as you can expect that but of course they are made like i don't know
if they have a form for this so they're all a little different so this is what
you get it's a natural material not bad so i don't like how the string
is stored and i don't like that if you get more and you know you order them and
you pay for it and you need to have them that they all look the same
then you get this whipping whipping whipping whipping whipping and this is
like playing Tetris it's not my favorite part and then even
the leather wrap at the end here this long here this long here this long just
what they think they use or have short long long a bit more consistency would be nice
but of course if you only get one it doesn't matter but if you have four and they all shoot
over four at the same time i'm in this regard a little optical perfectionist would be nicer for me
so they're all for sale and i will shall i i hate really when the string comes up like this
i really this is not my cup of tea coffee and whatever so i need to see now look at this crap
look now we have it okay i can show you the list and the center serving is very short so you really
need to see which one is the longer and which one is the shorter part and this loop is very tight
so so you have here variations and i am not even convinced if it's always the same bow builder
because you should have a little make a mark or something where you make your whippings and not
just like okay today i feel like here and here here let's see what we got now so and it's again
different you see that all of them different so he starts here like this one but then and like this
one but then he continues completely somewhere else so this is for me and i wanted black ones
with the whipping and then you see even more you know it's not going to work so 27 pounds
yeah you feel it but it still does a nice job 27 another oops another 420 grain now
oh see center serving might not be right i don't know it's so centered
to change the string so that's a problem the center serving is very short
it's a little stiff at the end obviously with higher poundage but maybe
the bow needs to open up nice bows with a little nitpicky things from my side
but for the price you still can't complain they are well made straight
yeah almost it's a natural material so you check sometimes if the bow is still straight especially
when you do your step through method check sometimes not that one is a little crooked
it's easy to fix with the bow here you just hold in the opposite direction for a little bit and
then wait until it straightens out so 27 is already a little too much i order 25
they are all just 24 25 is just fine they feel so these three pounds you feel directly
yeah this feels more i need to check things i do on video and then you skip through my videos
again exactly because you don't value my time i used to show you things
so you value your time more than i value my time
almost 32 pounds so this one felt already a little strong it's by no means 27 it's 20 32 pounds
and this again if i order 25 pounds i don't want to have one which is 32 because this is now not
working for what i wanted i needed low poundage bows and with 25 max so 24 25 is fine a 32 pound
which is claimed to be 27 is not going to work so ule archery either check it yourself properly
and write it there like as example bogart does it when he gets the bows from vig he always measures
them himself and then writes the real poundage there this is not going to work so either you
made a mistake in measuring or the bow builder was a little sloppy not going to work for me it's still
including shipping and everything 250 euros or something not acceptable it's five pounds more
and it matters for what is really good stiff yeah so nope that has drunk it for the rest in 24 25
pounds they're just for what i want them just nice they just draw a little too short so
i will see how we fix it so i will sell these ones so if you want one
let me know 24 25 and 27 pounds let me know that's all thank you very much ule archery for
promoting these bows so most probably they don't get that many but if you want one you can order
one but make sure that you specify exactly what you want and read the order confirmation precisely
that you really get what you order the other one the long one taobao no problem just speak your
chinese your you know your mandarin like you usually do in america and everywhere and then
it's no problem to get this bow thank you very much for watching you know that you should subscribe
and comment i don't mention this all the time because you're not stupid you know that thank
you for watching catch you in the next one
