world and we'll keep you up to date on everything to do around the blues from training camp the rookie camp this season games anything you can think of catch right here on blues digest so let's just dive straight into it today we're darius of course we're getting closer to the season we can see the blues are already putting out the four preseason games and they will be live streamed on the blues website and app for the broadcast region only but darius first off what is your thoughts on the season approaching and the fact that the blues have four preseason thank god they cut that down a bit well every nhl team it wasn't just the blues but what is your thoughts on these games because there's a lot of storylines coming out of this yeah thank goodness that they cut those down i think a lot of them were you know to a degree you need some preseason games but there's way too many the last couple of years and you kind of already know who's going to make the team and you know they have set lineups heading into the last couple of games of the preseason but we have a couple of important dates coming up now main camp starts uh next thursday the 17th so obviously everybody's going to be looking at that we're going to get some updates there that's going to be exciting we're going to get to talk about you know the actual blues on the ice which is super exciting but before that mark on september 12th which is this saturday rookie camp starts so we're going to get a look at guys like justin carbono adam you're a check those types of guys that we've been talking about a couple others that we'll get to later in this video but that's going to happen this week saturday and sunday they're going to be on the ice uh you know playing and then we're sorry practicing and then the rookie showcase against the black ox is the 14th and the 15th so we're going to get game action for some of those rookies next week as well so super exciting uh and then obviously the preseason starts just a couple days after that so that's going to be a lot of fun to watch i'm excited to see you know how certain guys gel with other guys because a big thing for me heading into main camp is chemistry that's the biggest thing for me the first line do they still have what they had at the end of last season if they don't what does that look like that's going to be interesting if they do that is obviously very exciting right like they're going to be going off like they were at the end of last year so excited to see how that all plays out and then uh from there you know who's playing center on the second line who's playing you know uh you know top line defense minutes is it going to be a guy like may you that is you know in that spot that'll be interesting to keep an eye on too but you know some of the rookies too i'm really excited to see you know justin carbona he's able to make the team so mark i don't know if you feel any differently but uh man hockey's here and i mean i think that's the biggest thing like you said there's going to be a lot of jim montgomery trying to figure out who works with who there's new bodies coming in there's going to be familiar faces playing with guys that have worked in the past but darius the big thing is to of course looking at this you have a lot of camps the rookie camp you have the prospect or sorry the training camp you have the season start but i think a big thing is looking at of course all the rookies coming through and the prospects of course and looking at the headline of lists of players that will be joining this team when it comes to the prospect camp you can see multiple notable names throughout the list i mean justin carbona we're going to talk about for sure but there's a lot of very interesting guys that are either going to make a push to make it into the big club or show out kind of under steve odd and what springfield has been slowly building with their new kind of regime taking that over and of course leading them on a playoff run after a very bad start to the season steve odd has done an incredible job but there is there's a lot of guys to look at and of course the first one to look at is nonetheless than justin carbona who feels like has legitimately one of the strongest chances to kind of impress when it goes in the camp to make jim ungrumly look and say hey we cannot send this guy down he needs to be within the lineup and of course it's going to be a long road it's going to be hard for him to make an impression like that because they have a deep team this year but there is what is your thoughts on justin carbona and just the chance that the young forward has to go out there and prove a point hey i cannot go back to springfield i'm buying my apartment in st louis this week yeah i think that this is going to be a huge preseason for him because obviously last year it's like okay first impressions how does he look with some of the other players you look pretty good you stick around for a while this year he cannot play in the bottom of the lineup he can't play in the bottom six of this team just a skill set that's not a recipe for success that's not how you put a player in a position to succeed he has to play the top two lines right now what does that look like these lines by the way we're we're going to fix them heading into training camp and all that type of stuff but you know he has to play in the top six for me to make the team so that means he has to play himself into the top six so he has to come in and really shine in this year's preseason and earn a spot take a spot and i think that he has all of that you know available to him i think he's going to be able to do that he's going to have every opportunity to do that but will he actually go ahead and be able to do that are there any other surprises and i want to get to another couple of players as well uh before you wrap up here but you know he's going to have the opportunity to do that so he's got to blow everyone kind of away and earn a spot here otherwise you're going down to springfield because the decision is a little bit easier for the organization in terms of yeah we'll just put you down in springfield in the ahl we don't have to worry about you know oh he's got to go back to junior again or anything like that no he can't play in the ahl this year he's of age so it'll be very interesting to see how that plays out and obviously he's the i think top prize in the organization like he has the you know a high ceiling in terms of offensive output and just the way he plays is so dynamic so i'm really excited to see you know what he's going to be able to do but there's a couple guys on this list that i think you need to keep an eye on right like guys like casca macchi that we talked about last year he's going to be making you know an impact too he's going to be fighting for a spot and i think that he had a really good season last year uh there's a lot to like about this player and you know we saw him for a very small stint as well when he was called up with the blues last year but didn't do much but i think he's going to be scratching and clawing and how much you know growth is there you know he was you know obviously training in the offseason just like everyone else but you know i always like when some of these younger players you know go away for the summer and they come back with a new bag of tricks right like that's always fun like hey he does this better now his skating's better like whatever it may be so i'm excited to see what the 22 year old is going to be able to bring to the table in this year's training camp so he's another guy i'm looking out for and one other guy if you can bring up the list again uh mark is uh lucas fisher on the defensive end i'm really interested to see what he's going to be able to do because he's kind of like more of a steady game he's not as flashy as some of the other players we've been talking about but i just want to see what he does how much boys he has with the puck and you know what that kind of looks like because i'm not expecting him to make the blues by any stretch but you know what does that look like in terms of you know his development in the ahl this year and different you know steps he can take and kind of mature his game and move to the pro level right so i'm looking at a guy like that too because there's so many guys we can talk about and splashier names right and guys that they drafted higher and of course like high expectations for those guys but i'm really interested in some of the guys that are kind of transitioning to the pro game and i'll throw it up to you here with that in your check too like this is another guy that i think he could honestly make the team and i think there's gonna be so many guys it's going to be competitive in every single camp because i mean again looking at the depth chart which we're going to fix it going into camp this is a team that of course not only has a lot of young guys making that push to get into the lineup you still have nhl players wanting to be in that top six to make an impact i mean looking through auto stemberg is not listed here going to be a that's going to make that push and want to make the team you can work through guys that made it sunquist is another name there's so many guys within this organization and the odds of course and nathan walker this is a team that's going to have a competitive camp and i think it's going to ramp this team up so you don't come out of the gate slow you're going to have guys fighting for their lives in this camp to not only make the team but stay in the top six to be competitive bitch listen if he's not performing that's a fourth liner for you because you have guys ready to make that jump and playbook fans leave your thoughts down in the comments on everything to do around this who do you think is going to be the biggest surprise in camp who do you think is going to be the guy that's kind of the odd man out that was on the roster last year let us know your thoughts down in the comments because we love reading through each and every one i've been your host mark with my co-host dearest and take care of loose ends
