French President Emmanuel Macron hosts Vietnamese President To Lam at the Élysée Palace in Paris as the two countries sign a series of agreements and seek to deepen their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Macron said the relationship was “flourishing” and that defence would be a cornerstone of the partnership, highlighting growing maritime cooperation and efforts to reinforce freedom of navigation in the Indo-Pacific.

The agreements cover multiple areas, with officials signing documents involving health, public security, science, agriculture and trade. To Lam's visit is also linked to the International Space Summit being held in Paris.

France and Vietnam upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in October 2024, and both sides have been seeking to expand cooperation in defence, technology, infrastructure, space and other strategic sectors.

The visit comes as France seeks a stronger strategic role in the Indo-Pacific and Vietnam works to diversify and strengthen partnerships with major powers.
