A major Dallas Cowboys move is incoming as after the injury to Malik Davis sends him out for the
entire season, the Cowboys are now in the market for a running back and there are a couple of names
that have stuck out, one of which has a veteran title to him. We talked about the potential
options for the Dallas Cowboys, why a move is necessary at this point, and so much more here
today on Cowboys Digest. Welcome everybody, late night edition, the day before the Cowboys open up
the season against the New York Football Giants. We'll be live from that game so make sure you
check us out if you're watching this Sunday morning. Guess what? We'll be live here later
on around probably 6 p.m. central time, maybe 6 30. So come check us out. We'll be live for the
entire game, of course, and do a post game alongside it. But we've got to get to the news
today and probably know it. I wanted to wait a little bit, just let the kind of dust settle a
little bit, see if the Cowboys ended up did making a move. They decided to not make it at least just
yet. They made a pseudo move when they placed Malik Davis on injured preserve following his
surgery, which by the way, the hip surgery did officially end his season. He will no longer
be a part of this 2026 Cowboys team, which really does stink. Hopefully he can recover,
be back next year. They did sign Israel Abakananda, which was the one running back on the practice
squad to their active 53 man roster. And obviously this is something that I'm not going to say we
expected, but it was, you know, something we kind of knew that was coming. And of course,
it was a serious injury that he suffered and had him carted off the field after yesterday's
practice. And obviously we now know confirmed, but everybody was kind of speculating that
probably going to be pretty bad and probably out for the season. Now we have that official
confirmation that he is gone for the entire season. So we won't see him for the entire season,
which includes tomorrow versus the giants. Now, speaking of tomorrow's game versus the
giants, you can trade right now on a Cal sheet for the Cowboys to win with you trading. Yes.
On them with $25, you're going to win $40 and 51 cents back on Cal sheet. You're trading directly
against other users, not the house, like a traditional sports book you're buying yes or
no on contracts on the active events across sports politics, or even the weather. Now,
of course you can trade on the Cowboys to win. You can trade on the Cowboys to win by over a
touchdown, $25 on that. It's going to get you $76 and 90 cents. You can also trade on touchdown
props. So for instance, I'd like to turn on CD lamb scoring. That's $25 and get you $54 and 28
cents back. And if you're interested in trying out cow, she used the link in the description.
You can also check it out on the pinned comment and use this code here, digest NFL to get $25
added to your account. It's for fun. And we appreciate Kelsey for being the presenting
sponsor of today's show. So, um, knowing all this, knowing that we do not do not have, um,
you know, Malik Davis anymore. There are a couple of names that I wanted to watch for in potential
options for the Dallas Cowboys. And one of them is actually a guy who was on the Cowboys, not just a
and it's film off. And now we know from Tommy Yarish, he did try out for the green Bay Packers.
This tweet came earlier this week. So, um, it seems like the Packers did decide to pass on him.
Obviously the Packers in an interesting situation with their running back. I don't need to get into
that. So we'll, if you know, you know, uh, but either way it is interesting. And I think he is a
cool option, but I don't know if he's the best fit. And there's a couple of reasons for that.
He's still very untapped and, you know, it just be his second year in the NFL. And he was on IR for
literally every single game last year, besides one. So kind of, uh, an interesting guy to add
in here. Um, obviously at this point, I don't know if you're going to go out and sign this
giant name, which we will have a bigger name. We'll talk to in a little bit, but, um, I do
think that it's interesting. He does post some interesting statistics. And I do think that,
you know, um, the familiarity with the offense is there in terms of what we saw from him in the
had 59 rushing yards in a 2025. So nothing really like crazy, but again, the experience factor,
knowing the Cowboy system does put him in there. Um, obviously Jane blue sign with the Philadelphia
Eagles. So not going to talk about the potential of him returning, but to the same kind of tone,
when they did cut film off and, you know, Jane blue, they did say, Hey, we probably don't want
them back. So it would be kind of, you know, stepping on your own tongue in a way. Have you
said, Hey, yeah, yeah, we don't want film off of that. We don't, we don't want to want Jane blue
back. And now we don't, we don't want them on the practice squad. Then Jane blues go sign with
another NFC, uh, you know, divisional rival, and then you bring back film off, but that just kind
of put a weird tone into it. And I don't know, you know, from off, uh, obviously at this point,
it'd be a practice squad signing if they were to bring them back. Cause they already had Israel
Abakananda above him, but they just pulled up. So I don't know if this one's the best fit,
but it's definitely an option. Now the next two guys actually do kind of spark my interest a
little bit more. Um, and the first one is the guy who actually worked out with Amari Di Mercano has
some experience Clayton Adams, and that is going to be Michael Carter. Now the former jet and
Arizona Cardinal running back turned now Tennessee Titan back. He is, uh, somebody that you haven't
probably heard about that often. And, you know, it's probably cause he hasn't done too much.
And now is playing with the, you know, with the Tennessee Titans. Uh, if you look at the
rushing statistics over, you know, his career since 2021 coming out of the university of North
Carolina has over 2000 rushing rubs across 519 attempts. So you can do the math relatively. Okay.
You know, yards per attempt, nothing crazy. It does have 77 games worth of experience and 10
touchdowns. Majority of those coming with his times with the jets back in 21 and a 22. Um,
I don't think that he's like, you know, this perfect back, but I do think that he is someone
that has, you know, experience one with Clayton Adams. Um, so right there, Amari Di Mercano came
over here and I do think a part of that was because of the experience with Clayton Adams.
So there is, you know, that connection. Uh, but also it is something that. He's not going to know,
come in here and be a guy that can, you know, take over that RB two slot, but he's somebody
that will definitely compete with theirs. You're all back on Honda for the RV three slot, which
unfortunately at this point, there's not really many RB twos out there. Um, Amari Di Mercano was
a great signing. Now hindsight 2020, like he's going to be the RB two for, if not the majority
of the season, you know, then we'll have to send someone else, but that that's kind of the way it
looks at this moment. Now, in terms of RB twos left, well, if you do want to go across the board
and look at, you know, quote unquote, free agent running backs, there's a couple of guys on here.
Obviously Joe Mixon is one, but it kind of seems like he's done past him. Nick Chubb's done, you
know, maybe that's an option. And that's who I kind of want to talk about next. Cause to me,
he is, uh, or has kind of, you know, put himself out there as somebody who would want to be playing.
Um, believe he's one who posted, you know, I'm unemployed right now. So I gotta do this and this,
I don't hate the idea of it. Obviously, you know, there's not a lot that I can say about him,
you know, last year is with Washington and it wasn't a good season, but we know the type of
career that he's had. We know the type of the career that he can, you know, pursue over 4,800
yards in his career. And I do think that it's something that, you know, the Cowboys might want
to see again, he didn't really play much last year, obviously got injured. So the experience
is there, but the health and, you know, ability to play is probably not as well kept as you would
like. So it's an unfortunate time. Cause I don't know if there's a right answer after losing Malik
Davis, to be honest with you, like there's no like clear and obvious path forward from the situation.
But what I do know is that you are in an interesting spot. Like you have put yourself
where it is going to be hard to, in theory, find a guy to replace Malik Davis. And that's
more or less, you know, I want to give him credit where credit's due. He did fantastic and did
some very good things. But at the end of the day, the hard part about it is the fact that you
planned on him being your RB2. And now you've got Amari DiMercato and Israel Abakanan,
which are names that don't really give off RB2. So, you know, we'll see what happens. I still
think the Cowboys should go out there and make a move, but ultimately there's not a ton of options.
But with that being said, I do want to ask you a question before I do, again,
I want to pop this up on the screen of the quote unquote, top guys on the free agent market,
just a heads up, DJ Dallas is on the practice squad of the Vikings, but you sign up through
their roster, you can take him away. But we'll just put this out here. What running back would
you like the Cowboys to add? If you'd like one of the guys that I've brought up in this video,
Phil Moffa, Michael Carter, Austin Eckler, absolutely go type it in, P Phil Moffa, M for
Michael Carter or A for Austin Eckler. And if you have your own name, if you have somebody you'd
like to go trade for, even, you know, put that in the comment section. I know I've heard James
Connor talks before, but we'll probably continue on with a video after tomorrow, you know, depending
on how the game goes about a running back situation, given the injury. But either way,
right now, let me know what you're thinking about this. And of course, we'll keep you updated.
Probably have a preview out tomorrow morning. Or if you're watching this Sunday morning,
there's probably a preview out already if you want to go check that out as well. For now,
though, we do appreciate watching again. We'll see you at the live stream later tonight. Peace out.
