Misty, mysterious, wet and cold, and just the best sail.

Sailing to the World
Sep 16, 2026

This video had its challenges. My gopro cameras I got second hand, and the batteries are obviously getting towards the end of their life, so had some issues keeping them going, also I had some difficulty with the weatherproof cases steaming up, and water on the lenses, but got enough reasonable shots to make a video.

But this really did turn out to be the most amazing sail. Just such a perfect breeze all day. I didn't want to stop!

Tilly is an Ilur cruising dinghy, 4,5M long with a balanced lug sail. Designed by Francois Vivier. https://www.vivierboats.com/en/

I built Tilly in 2024 and filmed my journey of building the boat, and since then have continued filming my sailing adventures.
I sail in the bottom SW corner of the South Island of Aotearoa, New Zealand, on the southern lakes. We live on the boundary of the Fiordland National Park.
Sailing conditions can often be tricky due to the unpredictable local conditions, but it is also an amazing place to explore in a small boat.
