🦎 A monitor lizard didn't have to climb for this one — he already lived here, in a crack in the rock a few metres below a golden eagle's nest. ⚡ For weeks he watched. Then a chick came off the nest ledge and landed on his.

The Chick was too young to fly. He couldn't get back up, and the only ground he had was a strip of red sandstone barely wider than his own wingspan, with a canyon underneath it. Behind him, nothing. In front of him, a reptile that had been waiting for exactly this.

The first charge came fast. What it didn't count on was how quickly the parents came off the thermals — one adult golden eagle dropping onto the ledge with talons out, then the second. Seven kilos of muscle and hooked steel against something built low and armoured, on a shelf too narrow for either of them to manoeuvre.

🔥 They drove him back into his crevice. He waited. And the moment the female lifted off, he came out again — because the male couldn't get down to the ledge without folding his wings, and folded wings on that shelf meant falling.

So he charged one more time. And the chick who had never flown, who had no room left and no way back, did the only thing still available to him.
