Did you know you can GROW your own sponges?! 🌱

Luffa (loofah) is one of my favorite unusual crops to grow because you can take it from a tiny seed to a completely natural, compostable household scrubber.

In this video, I'm walking you through the entire process of growing luffa from seed to harvest, including when to start your seeds, germination tips, when to transplant, how much space luffa needs, trellising, watering and fertilizing, pollination, when to harvest, and finally how to peel and process your gourds into natural sponges.

Luffa needs a LONG, warm growing season—often around 150–200 days to reach full maturity—so getting your timing right is especially important if you garden in a colder climate. I'll also cover what to do if frost is approaching and your luffas are still green.

If you've never grown luffa before, add this one to next year's garden plan. There is something ridiculously satisfying about growing something in your backyard that you can actually use around your house
