Material Removal - Bathtub Sanding Robot

Automated Bathtub Sanding with FANUC Robot and Force Sensing - The customer's workforce used hand sanders for the desired finish on engineered stone bathtubs. Two operators would sand a tub for 4 - 6 hours in full PPE. Not only was it labor intensive, but the rigors of the job resulted in high turnover.

With the new automation, the robot sands the main surfaces of each tub, and the staff touches up the top edges. The overall process is approximately two hours per tub. The material handling system allows eleven tubs to be queued for lights out operation over nights or weekends. The customer benefited from labor savings and higher quality finishes on the tubs.
