The Twinnies Evolution (1920–2025) | Britain’s Oldest Identical Twins

Born on August 28, 1920, in Chatham, Kent, identical twin sisters Kathleen Whitehead and Dorothy Sivyer shared a bond that would last for more than a century. Affectionately calling themselves “The Twinnies,” the sisters became known across Britain for their remarkable longevity, close relationship, and claim that despite spending their entire lives as sisters, they had never truly quarrelled.

Their lives stretched across an extraordinary period of history. When World War II began, both women contributed to the British war effort: Kathleen worked as a radar operator, while Dorothy became a radiographer, treating servicemen returning from the Normandy beaches. Kathleen later became a teacher, while Dorothy continued working in healthcare and raised a family of three children. Despite following different paths, the twins remained exceptionally close throughout their lives.

During the COVID-19 lockdown, Dorothy moved back in with Kathleen in their childhood home, and in 2020 they celebrated their 100th birthday together. Dorothy died on July 17, 2022, aged 101, while Kathleen lived until September 21, 2025, reaching the extraordinary age of 105. Their story became a rare portrait of sisterhood, longevity and a relationship that survived more than a century of change.
