Abandoned oil wells in West Texas

The Texas Railroad Commission is requesting an additional $100 million to plug abandoned oil wells, primarily in West Texas. Despite receiving $100 million last year and plugging 2,000 wells, the total number of orphan wells remains around 12,000 due to new reports. The agency is also exploring ways to treat and reuse wastewater from drilling for industrial and irrigation purposes.
