Multifunctional Hidden Bedroom Transforms Tiny Apartment, Milan 28sqm/301sqft

Set within an early 20th-century building in Milan, this 28sqm/301sqft apartment was created by architect Samantha Furlotti of ATOMAA from what was once part of a much larger home. Reworking the original layout to make better use of the compact footprint, bespoke furniture became key to creating a functional home while keeping the windows, natural light and views unobstructed. At the centre of the design is a multifunctional sleeping alcove that incorporates the bed, wardrobe, laundry and storage, with sliding panels allowing it to be opened or closed as needed. A compact custom kitchen maximises storage with deeper cabinetry, while a generous bathroom borrows natural light through a porthole integrated into the kitchen joinery. Original Milanese tiles have been carefully preserved and paired with new terrazzo-inspired flooring; while deep reds, pale greens and stainless steel, allow the character of the historic building to sit comfortably alongside newer interventions.
