The vlog begins with us at Animal Kingdom, blocked by a rhino on the safari! We hoped too many sweet treats were to blame for a yucky Sunday, but alas... The family got sick! We hope you enjoy what we could salvage from the week: rambles and recovery.
Hi! We are Peter, Sarah, James, Teddy, Charlie, and George and we live in Orlando, Florida. Our cute little puppy’s name is Eve. Together we strive to find the extraordinary in ordinary life.
A family vlogger balances a chaotic week featuring a trip to Disney's Animal Kingdom, managing sick children, and training for the Chicago Marathon. The content highlights the tension between theme park excitement and the demanding realities of parenting, household maintenance, and athletic goals, all while maintaining a commitment to healthy home-cooked meals.
Happy Saturday afternoon.
We're at Brookhart's, we weekly vlog, so if you enjoyed this video make sure you come
back every week.
We have just arrived at Animal Kingdom, did my 16 mile long run this morning.
We had a nice morning at home.
We're going to hit up Rainforest Cafe on the way in to Tisden's Animal Kingdom.
There we go.
Now you might be thinking to yourself, no matter how you spin these white rhinos, they
do not appear very white.
Look at the cheetah up there.
Oh yeah.
Now that is because, oh, alrighty.
Okay, yes, I am going to call ahead and let the warden know that we are holding.
So you're noticing that they don't appear very white, that's because their name actually
came from a mistranslation of the Afrikaans word vijt, meaning wide, grass at a time.
We were stopped on the safari for 10 minutes.
Weren't you saying it was at least 10 minutes?
And then we ended up, we were stalled in the queue, like that was like an hour long process.
It was a good one.
Yeah.
Was a lion blocking the road?
Was a cheetah blocking the road?
A lion?
A lion ate a banana?
I mean, never know, maybe they like bananas.
It was a rhino!
What is that thing?
A twerp.
A twerp?
A scorpion.
What's different about it is that it has these, these are its claws.
Cheetahs are one of the only ones that actually don't hide their claws.
Why do you, cheetahs, yeah, exactly, they're kind of like cleats.
Say goodnight gorillas!
Sometimes you just gotta stop and smell the roses, aka get a sweet treat.
Is it good?
No?
It's not good?
I like it.
Let's recap the last, I don't know, 18 to 24 hours.
And if you haven't realized from this hair, this is my wash.
This shirt is the same shirt.
It's Monday at 9.30, you hear kids in the background, you hear me talking not on Teams on my lap.
Charlie woke up yesterday sick.
Sick all day.
Teddy woke me up at around 3.45 in the morning.
I'm not sitting on a Teams call or at my office because I took today off.
This isn't happening.
So, Sarah's at the gym, wanted to make sure she still had that routine, trying to make
sure we take care of ourselves and show our kids that we take care of ourselves.
But yeah, I took today off.
We're just gonna roll the punches and make sure everybody's needs are met and be there
for the kids and each other.
This guy fell asleep on me, but that's it.
Here's a few pictures of him.
Good morning.
I don't even know.
I'm feeling cold.
That's where my brain is.
I think we're still gonna put up a vlog this week, even if it's short.
Some of us are down for the count.
I got out this morning, got in a workout, went to Jeff's Bagel, Peter's Bicycle, and
enjoyed, because I did not get to go to Jeff's on our fundraising day.
Pick us up some, pick me up ice cream.
I think ice cream.
Maybe some popsicles.
Something fun.
Something, something that when I walk in the door and the kids say, Mom, what did you bring
us?
They're popsicle.
I'm gonna go to the store, head back home, take the rest of the day on together.
I think we're on the up and up, but it's been a week, and it's only Tuesday.
We're gonna start a tracker of how many times I do an update when I've got this baby snoozing
on me.
Another update.
Guys, I'm hoping I'm doing better.
At least I feel like I'm doing better, to try to at least think about the vlog mindset.
It's hard.
I'm such an all-or-nothing, zero-hundred-percent, zero-hundred-fifty-percent kind of mindset.
You guys have known for years, like, hey, I'm not gonna screw up my first marathon,
I'm gonna do it dope.
Yes, Teddy?
Oh, for the duck build, we gotta look for him.
Maybe.
Oh, chicken.
Sorry, the chicken.
Maybe over here by the TV, or we might have to find him by the other big Legos.
Update's Tuesday.
Took off work again.
Kids are feeling better, but sleep was not great.
James ended up being up late with me until after midnight.
We were nervous James was getting sick, but fingers crossed we're keeping it away.
Teddy's doing much better today.
Sarah is almost home from the gym and running a couple errands.
Charlie, thank you.
You did great, Charlie.
Can you make me six more?
Thank you.
Charlie's drawing me pictures.
Just trying to get myself in a mindset.
It's hard when we're trying to do this week-long format and Sarah and I can have different
visions.
We've often talked about, like, the Casey Neistat aspect of the world of YouTube content.
Sometimes that might be easier when it's just one person, one creative mindset of, like,
especially when you're talking multiple days, like, get these different kinds of shots and
tell a story this way.
If I'm not aware of that, I could take shots that Sarah wants to include, but it kind of
messes with that.
So I think we're trying to find a groove of, like, how the weekly format looks and feels
and I'm trying to remind myself to, like, pull the camera out, give the updates, do
the shots.
This is my current thing right now is I just went around the entire first floor and just
took a broom and pushed everything into a giant pile because we've been lacking on our,
like, we call closing down the house, closing shift.
We do a toy parade or toy party with the kids after dinner.
We've not been doing that.
That's when they help us put away the toys.
We put on a special playlist on Kids Nelly.
This is our toy cleanup song.
Haven't been doing that.
So, like, we just need a refresh, but, like, we're giving ourselves the grace because the
kids have been sick and everything, but I was just overstepping over things and stepping
on things.
If there was a dumpster where we live, good chance it all just would have gone in there
but instead I just took a broom and pushed everything into one giant pile that we'll
deal with later.
Thank you, Charlie.
Charlie's an artiste.
Thank you.
What color is that?
I'm gonna bust these out.
Special 50th anniversary.
Five miles.
As Sarah just said, five boroughs.
Five miles.
I wouldn't wear these every day, which is probably a good thing.
I feel like these will probably be dedicated to running.
PCS New York City.
50 years through the five boroughs.
Boom.
In that color scheme.
And also, that's the 50 right there.
I think I've only ever had one other pair of knock-arounds, and they were ACS ones.
These are a bit fake for me, I'd look face, but I think they work and they're good running
ones.
Well, I'm gonna see.
Alright, here's the deal.
Just went for a random kind of afternoon run.
I really could, because I had the day off.
Took the day off.
Went for five miles.
At 1pm.
Peak Florida heat.
And decided to, like, try to run real fast, because I've been kind of just doing easy
runs outside of long runs a little bit.
I won't even humor you and say I've been doing tempo runs.
I've been doing just moderate runs this whole time, and my long runs.
And, as you guys know, I have a goal of running the Chicago Marathon in four hours.
Pretty lofty.
Never come close to that before.
And just now, I ran five miles, and I was, like, two, two and a half in, and I was like,
I might pace to do this whole five mile run under a nine minute per mile pace, which is
what I need for the four hour.
I was like, let's go for it.
But then I quickly, like, I was like, oh, it's the heat.
Humidity caught up to me.
I was like, I try, try, try, try, try.
And then I'm finishing at a 9.27 pace.
Because I realized towards, like, the last minute that I didn't get it, which, of course,
then I got my head and then slowed down.
But I did the math and did some Googling's.
It is 87 degrees.
Feels like 88.
Dew point of 75.
Humidity of super high.
And took that with that pace, and the internet was able to convert it using, like, the projected
forecast in Chicago on Marathon morning.
And I'm a little less hard on myself, because if we use that to determine, like, a range
of, like, this similar effort that I just gave for five miles, a little less than 20%
of the full marathon length, my pace would have been significantly faster for the same
level of effort.
And I would have been able to hit my goal, like, with that.
And I'm taking confidence in that, because this was a random afternoon run that was not
planned, didn't eat right this morning, didn't sleep and eat and hydrate, didn't have caffeine
with me, didn't have my goos with me during the run, like I will on Marathon morning.
So obviously the marathon distance is more than five times what I just ran.
But with a far more prep and conditioning and just thinking about it mentally, rather
than just, like, putting on shoes and going, I feel pretty good.
So we'll do a couple more little runs, but we are, I mean, in taper, so they won't be
long runs.
But getting nervous, getting excited.
Yum, yum, yum, yum, yum, yum, yum, yum, yum, yum.
Let's cheers.
Sarah and I are cheersing.
I made dirty chai tea lattes.
It's delicious.
Yeah.
I couldn't be used without whipped creamer.
You can toss some more.
In yours.
Thanks.
Sarah organized and cleaned and decorated the whole house, while the rest of us were
at work and school.
So that's great.
I feel like we're, it's a little bit of back to normal.
We had a weird start to the week.
Yeah.
I'm also a little freaked out about Chicago Marathon.
It is so soon.
And then we leave so soon for our East Coast trip.
And I was like, we need to figure out what is, we're going to do what to make sure that
we don't miss out on anything that we want to do here.
We have started a tradition of going to the fort.
It is the Toy Story, official Toy Story playlist.
Toy Story 5 came out on Disney Plus today.
Sarah the other day was like, what if we, because it's kind of a weird week with all
the sickness, what's the vlog?
And I was like, I think I've actually taken a lot of like updates.
So it might just be like a semi-continuous Peter Rambo of a vlog.
But it's Friday morning, but we're starting the vlog updates today very early because
Sarah hasn't even gone to the gym yet.
It is an exciting weekend though.
We were trying to think of like, what did we say?
We were thinking about doing a farmer's market.
It's supposed to get cold here.
It's supposed to be like fall here this weekend for Florida standards, which means the humidity
levels go from oppressive, that's a meteorological term, to just humid.
And so we might wake up on Sunday to a low of like 65.
Yeah.
Or 65, 66, something like that on Sunday morning.
Still a high of like low 80s.
But that, that is fall for Florida standards.
And it'll last about a day and a half.
And we'll go back to the high humidity, high 80s next week.
Something weird is going on.
My oldest child is upstairs by himself just watching TV in my bed with all the lights off.
I feel like that's such a canon sick kid thing.
I'm also making, they're called restaurant style, but they're McDonald's style.
McDonald's style frozen french fries at 9.20 in the morning on a Friday because why not?
Sarah and I are in charge.
And the kids love these.
And I'd rather full bellies than exactly the right balance thing that you have.
Especially when they aren't feeling 100%.
Because when I'm not feeling 100%, I just want some healthy french fries too sometimes.
And like I said, Sarah and I apparently are adults.
And apparently are responsible.
And apparently make all the decisions.
So, frozen french fries, 9am on a Friday morning.
Sounds good to me.
Bouncing her out.
This is the start to a Friday.
Sarah got some.
I am signing off from my office this weekend.
I started that new segment last week of what we had for dinner.
And I wanted to keep it going even in this weird week.
And I'm very proud of us.
Because there are 6 clips.
Which means I cooked.
No.
Basically I'm just proud of us.
Because the very first thing to go usually when I'm given any minor inconvenience.
Is my ability to cook.
And you guys know we love a treat.
We love going out to eat.
So I'm very proud of us that this segment is not just a drive through.
Or a trip to the grocery store every single day.
So there was one night, the main night, where the sickness really hit.
And we still went to Aldi.
And we got chimichangas and jalapeno poppers.
And had like a little finger foods night.
But 5 other nights we cooked.
And then our french fry Friday from McDonalds.
So here we go.
What we ate for dinner this week.
So before Animal Kingdom Saturday I made these little veggie flatbreads.
On Sunday I spent a lot of time cooking Sunday dinner.
I did a pork roast, mashed potatoes, mushroom gravy, green beans with tomatoes.
I thought I was doing it.
And it's delightful.
So fall.
And on Monday I was able to make it into...
Actually no, this is Tuesday.
Made it into some fancy ramen.
Monday was our trip to Aldi.
Wednesday night did a little veggie baked gnocchi with cheese.
Thought the family was all better.
They were not.
So we went back to easy on Thursday.
With this little chicken breast Caesar salad on a flatbread.
We did indulge in french fry Friday.
Before we served popcorn and a bun dish for movie night.
It's good to be home.
We know what our goals are.
We know what we hope to accomplish.
And believe me.
It's the most exciting and challenging assignment we've ever tackled at Walt Disney Productions.
