In Hammamet, Tunisia, archaeologists have uncovered the largest necropolis ever found in Africa, preserved for more than 2000 years.
Led by Aïcha Ben Abed and Marc Griesheimer, this rescue excavation must be carried out in just a few months before the construction of a hotel complex.

With more than 2000 tombs, lavish funerary objects, intact burials and evidence of rituals and cultural exchanges, the site offers a unique window into Roman life in North Africa from the 2nd century BC onward.
A remarkably preserved heritage, untouched by looting, that rewrites our understanding of ancient Africa.
