AI GeneratedRonaldo Salgado shares the heartbreaking story of his father, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, who was shot and killed by an ICE agent during a traffic stop while on his way to work. He calls upon Congress and the public to protect immigrants and end the cycle of violence and fear, emphasizing that no family should have to endure such a preventable tragedy.
I am Ronaldo Salgado. I am the son of Lorenzo Salgado Rafa. On July 7th, just before 7 a.m.
my dad was shot by an ICE agent conducting a traffic stop. I was at the site on Canal and
Wayside for hours looking for answers. No one could tell me anything until I was told that my
dad was at Benton Hospital. I went there hoping for some answers, hoping to see him still in
surgery or just alive. I wasn't told anything until around 3 30 p.m. that same day I was told
that my dad had died. I want Congress and the rest of the country to know my dad's name, Lorenzo
Salgado Raujo, and his story. He was just a man on his way to work and he did not deserve this.
I just want to urge lawmakers, I want to urge the entire country to protect immigrants. Right now
immigrants' lives are under attack. People are living in fear and we should not let fear govern
us. We want to make sure that everyone's dads who go out to work are able to come back home and be
with their families. Nothing like this should ever happen again. He was a hard-working man,
raised his family the right way, had three kids through college, and he was looking forward to
slowing down and spending more time with my mom and just grow old with my mom. Maybe
meet some grandkids. It just saddens me that he won't get to do that. It breaks my heart knowing
that there's other families that are going through this and this cannot continue happening because
this is already too much. It should have stopped with Ruben Ray Martinez. It should have stopped
with Keith Porter Jr. It should have stopped with Alex Peretti, Rene Good. It should have stopped
with our dad, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. It should have stopped with Johan Sebastian Guerrero. And
now we have a young man, Wilbur Austin, whose family is experiencing something similar. So it
needs to stop.
