PET BILL TO PASS UNCHALLENGED

CLARIFICATION:
(The common pleco is a substantial problem in Florida, unlike most fish that escape and do not cause any problems.)

The Lacey Act amendment, one of 600 in the COMPETES bill currently before the Senate, restricts the importation and interstate transport of ALL animals except specific items on a list to be determined by the Secretary of the Interior. The purpose of this? To end the possibility of invasive species and solve the problem once and for all.
Amendments to the Lacy Act will end the importation of new and rare fish into the hobby as well as most fish we have become accustomed to having. That much we know with certainty.
The thousands of serious, skilled hobbyists who maintain inventories of these fish will no longer be able to acquire or trade their fish. This will destroy a wealth of knowledge and expertise that is protecting rare and endangered species.
The areas where these fish are collected will be abandoned to the loggers and miners.
Thousands of species will be lost forever. This is the real legacy of those who want to control destructive invasive species by banning nearly everything.
