After what happened in 2020, Americans should be paying close attention, not just to the disease, but to the fear campaign that could come with it.
A 28-year-old lab worker in Russia reportedly died after developing severe pneumonia, sparking rumors of exposure to pneumonic plague.
Sounds terrifying, right? But here’s what those headlines leave out: Russia has not confirmed she died from plague, no secondary cases have been reported, and the WHO currently rates the risk outside Russia as very low.
And yet, Israel reportedly has an mRNA vaccine for pneumonic plague in development.
How convenient.
We know what happened in 2020. Fear was followed by lockdowns, church closures, business shutdowns, speech restrictions and sweeping emergency powers.
Brownstone Institute President Jeffrey Tucker says “we know the game plan now.”
“You can’t say for sure, but it sure looks like we’re seeing the same playbook unfold for us right now.”
So if another public-health scare comes, the question is simple: Did America learn anything from 2020?
