After Twenty years

After 20 years was the story written by O. Henry. According to this story, there were two friends named Jimmy Wells and Bob Catchy. Both of them went to a restaurant, dined together and made a promise to each other. The time Bob Catchy was 20 and Jimmy Wells was 18. Both of them wanted to move away from that place to make their fortune. They might have settled in different places and might be in different positions. Wherever they were, they wanted to meet after 20 years at the same place on the same date at 10 o'clock during night time. On that particular night, a cop was found moving on the streets waiting for someone. At that point of time, a wealthy person reached there and expressed his doubt that there was a restaurant before and what happened to that restaurant. Then the cop said, just two years back, the restaurant was demolished and in that place, a store was constructed. Then the cop asked, Sir, do you want to meet anyone? That wealthy man said, My name is Bob Catchy. When I was 20 years old, I had a friend named Jimmy Wells. A restaurant used to be here and we made a promise to each other. Wherever we might have gone for making our fortune and whatever positions we might be, we wanted to meet after 20 years on this date at this time, that means at 10 o'clock. He was looking into his watch and it was 10 to 10 and he said that he was waiting for his friend. He continued, we used to make correspondence for one or two years and after that I was busy. Perhaps he might be busy. So our correspondence was completely lost. I don't know whether he is alive or not. If he is alive, I hope he will surely come to this place. I will wait for 10 more minutes, said he. As it was dark, both of their faces were not clearly seen. Then Bob Catchy lit a cigar. His face was clearly seen. The cop recognized him. He was the one whom Chicago wanted. He was a criminal. So he was appointed to catch that criminal. He simply said, Okay, sir, you can surely meet your friend. Saying so, he left the place. After 10 minutes, a man in casual wear came to that spot and addressed him. Hi, Bob Catchy, how are you? he said. Are you Jimmy Wells? he asked. Yes, I am Jimmy Wells. I came to meet you. There is a restaurant very close by. Can we go there and dine together and we can have a long talk? Saying so, he took him to a restaurant. On seeing his face, Bob Ketchy was wondered, You are not Jimmy Wells, he said. In the street lights, he had seen his face very clearly. Why did you get the doubt? asked the tall man. After 20 years, a short boy can be changed into a tall man. But a pug nose can't be changed into a Roman nose, right? Yes, what you guessed was correct. I am not Jimmy Wells. In fact, I am a police officer and I came to arrest you. Before that, you take this piece of paper. Saying so, he handed over a piece of paper. In that paper, it was written in this way.
