Black and White Photography "Cole Thompson" Melting Giants | Featured Artist

At 14 years of age, Cole Thompson knew he was destined to be a fine art photographer.
Even at this early age he found himself drawn to a particular style of image, one that would literally cause a physical reaction in him. They were dark images created by Adams, Weston, Bullock and others. He knew that I was destined to create such images.
Melting Giants
"Upon birth, they immediately begin to die. Wandering the oceans, in search of their final resting place."
In Thompson's own words:
"The project melting giants was created in 2016 in Newfoundland.
These icebergs break off from Greenland. And then they take 1 to 4 years to come down the coast. And then what they do is they beach themselves in Newfoundland breakup, and finally die.
It seemed to me rather sad, a cold, harsh environment to end your life. And so I wanted to create this image of very dark scenes with a very bright iceberg. And I did a lot of that work, of course, through under exposure and through Photoshop. Some of the challenges that I faced in photographing these icebergs. The first was that they move a lot. And if they move too much, I couldn't do a long exposure. So what I looked for are ones that would beach themselves."
