Deep in the mountains of Zigui County, Hubei Province, lies a mysterious cave. Traces of ancient human habitation have been found inside, and a shrine to Xiang Wang Tianzi (a legendary figure associated with the Tujia people) is enshrined at the cave entrance. Legend has it that this was once the residence of Xiang Wang Tianzi, a Tujia ethnic hero. The cave is strategically important and difficult to attack. During the reign of Emperor Jiaqing of the Qing Dynasty, the leader of the White Lotus Sect led thousands of followers to camp in the cave. Later, they were besieged by the Qing army and, running out of ammunition and supplies, retreated. The only access to the cave is a sheer cliffside path. Reaching it is no easy feat; it requires perfect coordination of hands and feet, with a sheer drop below, where a single misstep could result in certain death.
